Default Is tumble useful for anything besides the mobility feat?

any reason to put points into if I do not have the mobility feat?

I don't quite understand your question.

Mobility is useless. Tumble has its uses, but on a fighter, just put 1 point into it and its fine. Never will you be tumbling in and out of combat, unless there is DA, or you are chained.

Tumble allows you to roll ( flip if you have high tumble ) to avoid the arrows/projectiles. Also it helps to reduce the damage when fall down from high level.

Tumble also reduces the damage you take from falling.

Tumble is useful for fighters up to one point above your armor check penalty (for mithral tower shield and DT armor you'd need a modified tumble of 12), particularly for stalwart defenders. This is because you can't run at normal speed, but you can tumble at normal speed. So it's useful to use tumble to get around in defensive stance.

Mobility can be gained from equipment, Monk Water Stance and Fighter enhancements can give stacking Mobility-like improvements to AC, and you can move through kneedeep water more quickly with Tumble.
