correct +sp items don't stack, the highest bonus is applied

Actually you do get it. You only get the highest +sp being used. That is if you are using two power2 items, a power3 and a power1 item. you will not get +80 sp only +30 for the power 3

Like bonuses usually don't stack. The cha items both give an 'enhancement' bonus and only the largest bonus will apply. This will be true for all items unless they state they give a different type of bonus to the ability such as an 'exceptional' bonus.

Basically you want to have the highest wizardry or power item you can find until you can craft a greensteel item that gives you exceptional bonuses to SP.

The stacking thing takes a bit of time to get used to and you need to experiment with the items you have. I still have to play around with them 3 months after starting to play.

There is a big, and quite reasonable, urge to just sell each + item as you upgrade. What I have found is that if you hang on to them you can mix and match the slots based on what your new item is.

For example, a trinket replaced by a better cloak may be of use later whan you get another cloak that gives a different +. You will lose the cloak benefit, but can put the trinket back on to get something back and still get to to use the new cloak.

You end up with a storage pane of old + items, but having tried this strategy out I usually find that it is much more use to have them to shuffle around than the average 150 gp that most items get when sold.
