    Default Wiz17/Barb3 or Wiz17/Fighter3?

Im planning to make a battlemage, but I dont know if either the Barbarian/Wiz multiclassing would be better or a Fighter/Wiz, because the Barb gets more hp and DR, but Fighter can have proficiency with (pretty much) everything, and tower shields. Right now, im a lvl 13 Wizard with an AC of 27 +2, 16 STR, 16 CON, 29 INT, 9 WIS, 9 CHAR. I have a -10% spell failure on light and medium armor, and currently having a +4 twilight heavy wooden shield, and a +5 twilight chainmail of power III. My trinket is a dusk heart, my wep is a +2 metalline longsword of deception, my boots are feather falling boots of tumbling, rings are reaver's ring, and chaos band. Saves are 11/10/9. My helm is Minos Legens.

I know im wearing the wrong things for a caster, but...

At level 13, AC of 27 is as good as AC 7. You will get hit on a 2+ anyway, so it is better to spend your resourced previously wassted in AC into getting more HP / higher saves / more SP / higher Spell DC.
Your defense is Displacement + Stoneskin. (And selfhealing if you are a Warforged)

If you want to make a Battlemage, there is basically no way past Warforged, for the general Toughness of the race, as well as the highly important selfhealing for that kind of character.

The problem with Barbarian levels on a Battlemage is that when you are in barbarian rage, you cant cast spells. Locking you out of most of your good class abilities and leaving you as a very low HP, low attack bonus melee.

Good spells for this kind of build are:
Master´s Touch, Haste, Displacement, Stoneskin, Rage-Spell (that works different from Rage-class ability, as it doesnt prevent you from casting)

But be reminded that this kind of build is currently lacking a PrE dedicated to this kind of playstyle, highly gear dependent, very involving to play and resource intensive and because of that generally not considered a good idea to start one for a new player.
Erzskalde (Warchanter) / Erzassassin (just passing through - ignore me) / Erzsoldat (waiting for TR-time) / Erzschmied (ranged Artificer)

At level 13 you don't build a Battle Mage. Thats done at level 0.

Battle Mage is still a 'mage'. So casts spells. Barbarian Rage and ASF don't mix well with 'mage' part.

Wizard17/Rogue2/Fighter1 is a nice combo. Caster, trapsmith, melee. Wizard17/Monk2/Fighter1 would also be good. No traps/locks skills, but extra 2 feats.

Race: usually its Warforged. More durable, selfrepair and can have Mithral body with 0% ASF. Sometimes, but rare, some go with Elf or Drow. They get enhancements to lower ASF by 10% if wearing light/medium armor. For example Elf with mithral chainshirt would have 0 ASF.

You are not wearing 'wrong' things, just 'too cheap'. Idea is correct, but you need better stuff. That stuff is very, very rare and expensive. Armored battle mage is **** expensive and hard to make.
