Default Pimp my Cleric (Advice, not handouts!)

Hello folks, I am a F2P lvl 6 Cleric who is looking for gear selection.

    1. I am a healbot (but I like to swing a s&b when OOM)
    2. Halfling
    3. Have about 10k pp on Thelanis to purchase gear.
    4. I don't have access to any adventure packs

What gear should I pick up?

I would hold off until level 9-12 or so to start gearing him. Anything you buy now you'll be looking to upgrade in a few levels anyway.

Based on the time it took me to get to lvl 6, I think I would like to start getting some decent gear now. I plan on buying GH and Vale (and maybe a mid lvl pack) but I am tired of the 'lowbie' gear I have, and am looking for some advice for this level. I don't play often, but I would like to optimize the time I have to play, and to be the best healer I can be at the level(s) I am right now.

I am looking forward to higher levels, and will be looking for gear advice then, too, but right now my gear lasts me enough time that I don't mind paying for it right now.

I am assuming you have a relatively weak dex, so the best full plate you can find would be a good starting point to help with AC. Don't worry about mithril armor yet if your dex is not over 14.

A protection item is also a good idea. Maybe a +1 or +2 at this level.

For a shield, get the highest + increase you can on a large shield or get a devotion shield. Having a devotion item that improves the potency of your healing spells is very important. Whether on the shield or some other item, you should have the best one you can get. At your level, it's probably only enhancing level 1 or 1 and 2 spells and only by 20%-30%. But when your 10 SP Cure Light spell can hit for 20-25 HP, that's a real mana saver.

You will want to find save enhancing items, particularly your reflex save, as that is a weak point for clerics. So a general resistance item for all your saves or one for just your reflex that is higher (Trapblast goggles as an example) would be good. These come from the STK adventure pack, so you might have to get them on the Auction house.

Of course, you should always have a wisdom enhancing item. +2 a this point. That is critical and a must have.

A close second is a constitution enhancing item. +2 a this point. That is critical and a must have. The Cloven Jaw War Beads are good (look in the AH, they come from STK).

An SP enhancing item is good as well. You should be able to find a Power IV or V at this point for around 40-50 SP.

Look for a concentration item as well to improve your checks when taking damage and casting.

Feather Falling boots become available at level 5. You should have this to avoid taking damage from falls.

Proof against poison items also become available at level 5. One of those is good to have. You should also have a blindness immunity item, a disease immunity item, and an underwater action item that are on your hot bar to swap on.

For Wands, make sure you have a Remove Disease, Remove Curse, Neutralize Poison, Remove Blindness, and a couple Cure Serioius Wands at all times.

If you have more slots available a STR item to get +2 on STR is always a good thing.

I am in agreement with PurdueDave...

However some good items to keep an eye out for are...

    Devotion Items (Improved / Greater)

    Mithral Full Plate & Shields

Your weapon of choice or sceptres of Power / Nullification / Penetration, etc.

Again though, you will be looking to upgrade and 'level appropriate' gear in another few levels, so don't go broke to gear up on these items. If you find an exceptional deal on the Auction House great, but check House D (weapons) and House K (armor) vendors before making any large purchase off the AH.
I believe in mind over matter. If I don't mind, it doesn't matter.

    Sarlona! Yep, back again.

A lot of really good loot drops in STK, Tangleroot and Deleras. All are adventure packs, but there are items in each of them that will be used well into the 9-12 range or even endgame (voice of the master, for example). Another good adventure pack if you are looking forward instead of back is Sorrowdusk/Cult of the 6. There are some great end rewards there, too that will give you some really useful items.

For free content, Gwlyans Stand drops some nice loot. There is a +3 dex +1 protection ring that is nice, for example. I do agree with the previous poster that you don't want to over pay for gear at these levels.

BTW, if you buy the Deleras adventure pack and run that 4-5 times, you will be level 8. It is 4 quests that total aroudn 20k xp each.

    Fair enough.

If you can swing it I'd hit Tangleroot - Nothing you pay for on the AH for a stat item (dex, con, str cha - the cha is more rare) will trump the stuff you can get from Tangleroot. There's also a WIZII trinket and a great clicky (Visor the Flesh Render Guards - deathward clicky).

I would hit the AH for bargains only. 10K plat won't get you very far and if you haven't used a portable hole for your backpack, you'll want to keep that 10K banked.

Seriously, the XP from some of the early quests is a bit miserly. You may be hitting 9th level before you might expect.

Check the Vendors in House K regularly as you should be able to score a Superior Devotion II or III Shield most days at level 6. You could settle for a Greater Potency II but if your just healing take the Superior and let the other members of your party play dps. You'll have access to decent +3 Full Plate of X as well or Plain +4 (I like the X's ). Check all the level 5 and 7 vendor's regularly for Wizardry II RR or Wisdom stuff. You'd be surprised what gets vendored some days.

I'd say grap Delera's and get your Voice of the Master Trinket as you can get Wiz II stuff on your helm or weapon.
+5% EXP will have you in GiantHold faster than Tangleroot IMO.
