Nope, because they're too lazy to implement a character backup for accidents like so.

*Even if the current system is pretty darn 'idiot-proof', which it is.

Have some mercy for the so called 'idiots', don't be so stuck up ppl.

They have you enter the character name to be sure you mean to delete it. Deleting it yourself is user error, go slower and be absolutely sure you want to do it.

I know it sucks, done it myself, but only have myself to blame.

Why oh why should windows have this thing called a recycle bin? For user error. It allows you to get back what you accidentally deleted.

Just because a user makes an error, does not mean they should suffer because of it. People WILL make mistakes, and we should do what we can to help.

There no need for such a mechanism. You have to click delete, then type in the name of the char to delete, then click ok.

That's way too much user error to try and protect against.

They have you type in the character name to confirm the delete. That's your chance to make sure you're deleting the correct character.

    Sorry, OP, live and learn.

Dungeons and Dragons is about choices.

Chosing to type that name in is a very deliberate action. While I'm sorry he accidentally deleted his items, the planning was in his control and the typing of the name. This isn't a 1-stroke key show. (Unless you somehow managed to have the name "a" and hit delete and went for the tab key, hit the "a" again for the confirmation of the name, then hit enter thinking you were on the wrong tab'd box -- a very unusual set of circumstances).

To OP: If that was your circumstance, you should write a novel about chaos theory. I'd be keenly interested.

    what Lorien said.

It's rather iron clad protection yo.

you have to be about as smart as a brick to not understand:

ENTER YOUR NAME TO CONFIRM THE DELETION OF YOUR CHARACTER

Would a simple backup really be so bad? Even if it only backed up your character for 1 day? Come on, have some mercy.

Maybe some people just have no feelings for those who make mistakes, even if they are almost impossible to make.

Where do you draw the line? It just seems like a waste of time to accommodate people who can't successfully operate a delete option, just pop in a dvd of Lord of the Rings and hand them an unplugged Playstation controller and say "Welcome to Stormreach".

    Sorry....but two things...

    1. "Are you sure you want to delete this character"

    2. "Type the name of the character into the box to confirm"

and you still got it wrong????

It would be nice if there was some sort of warning if you're deleting money or items tho. I dunno how many times I've stripped a character, sent everything off ... and forgot to mail the plat.

I know, user error... live and learn. /shrug...

On the other hand, Windows does not make you type in the file name before deleting it.

Why only 1 day? What if I "accidentally" delete a character and then lose power? What if the power stays off for 25 hours? Why should I be punished for an incompetent electric company?

What if they extend it to 2 days then, but on the second day my wife goes into labor and I forget to log back in to restore the character?

But then, Turbine in all its mercy, deigns me worthy of 3 days to restore my "accidentally" deleted character, but on the 3rd day I'm so stressed and exhausted from the last 2 days that I don't even log in.

So Turbine, in following your magnificent wisdom, expands the restore period to 4 days, but on the night of the 3rd day I was "randy", and my wife having just come out of the hospital wasn't in the mood, but then my computer crashes while searching alternative solutions.

So then we come to 5 days. 5 is a nice round number. I think we should be good with 5 days. But oh no! Now my cable is out and I have no internet. Surely Turbine will give us 6 days.

But wait....on the 6th day I have to go to work, and of course my boss makes me stay late knowing that I had to log in and restore my character.

So we get to 7, but on the 7th day I rest

In short Kromize....no. Its pretty darn idiot proof as it is. Next you'll be asking for Turbine to supply us with knee pads so we don't "accidentally" bang our knees against our desk
