You think that is the worsed what uninformed politicians are up to?
Think about internet censorship with hidden blacklists, with no checks and balances, except the civil servants themself that put sites on the hidden black list.
All under the guise of "protect the children". Good intend, worst possible way of doing it.

"I'm just a bill. Yes, I'm only a bill. And I'm sittin' here on Capitol Hill"...I knew that little guy looked familiar!
The problem I see with this is there's been identification of an actual problem, but I doubt legislation will be a viable solution. Laws are already in place concerning stalking, harassment, etc, and these do little to resolve the issue. It's sad that there isn't more personal accountability for behaviour going on. But the lure of the anonymity of the internet is many times too great a temptation for the more wretched aspects of human nature. That cannot be legislated away.
Foolish waste of time.
Being on the internet does not free anyone from the pre-existing laws governing appropriate use of free speech. In other words, it is illegal for you to threaten someone, regardless of whether or not it was face to face or online. This bill, if passed (which it won't... it won't even go past committee), will do exactly NOTHING.
I find Representative Linda Sanchez's bill to be offensive and harassing. Arrest her now.
Seriously, this bill won't see the light of day.
BTW, I'm assuming if you get infraction points, you would know it? Where would they be listed?
I'll be sure to use this as an example when explaining the meaning of the word, 'reactionary,' to my students in the future.
Wow! If this were a trend, or something, I might understand, but the genesis of this comes from a woman who committed suicide because someone on the internet was bullying her? Really? If anything, we should use the time and money to create a Big Brother network that monitors citizens' mental health and checks them into a clinic automatically--it'd make about as much sense.
This is akin to blaming video games for school shootings: a person who is so mentally unstable that these kinds of small, and easily avoided stimuli cause a person to go from unstable to broken reveals how close to the edge they were to begin with, not how damaging these events/media are. Really a shame that politicians are able to waste our time and money, and even more so that, instead of making pushes for mental health care reform, the scapegoating draws attention away from important issues.
Someone needs to go smack that ***** upside the head.

Trust me, you would know if you got one. Couple months ago I was was on the phone talking to one of my buddies, and I said I think Bruce lee was chuck Norris's equal..... I logged on the next day to the forums and not only did mr Norris know I had said his name, but he had hit me with an infraction point for saying he had an equal. I can on thank him for being merciful and not banning me.
