Particularly irksome to me is anyone who bullies women (or children or animals, for that matter), as many of you already know. Similarly, anyone who harasses women is someone I would consider a bully.

Threatening to post pictures of someone here because a bully believes she would be regarded as unattractive by the general population of Khyber (and abruptly made unpopular, thereby) is an empty threat and I've urged her to ignore the threats and to report any harassment to the administrators of the sites she referenced to me.

What impact would the appearance of an active player here have on your impression of them as a player? Please indicate that you, like me, cannot be affected in your opinion of other players based on their picture(s), if someone were to post unflattering real life pictures of a prominent player. This is not really her concern. Her concern is for the harassment.

A little context:

While the Turbine servers were down, some who had active Facebook memberships received periodic updates from Turbine on a page, there. Among the waiting players was a friend of mine whose character names someone guessed and posted, late in the day.

Someone else following that thread has used his Facebook Account to copy pictures from Facebook of my friend and has threatened to post them here, if she won't unBlock him (he used a friend's account to send this message to her). She placed that Block on his messages to her on that first day, when she was made uncomfortable by his messages to her.

I've told this friend that neither Facebook nor Turbine would allow her to be harassed, but she remains worried. Please reassure my friend.

Report said jerk to the proper powers that be. Do not lose much sleep over it though because if they actually do post your pictures then it will that much easier to take the proper actions against them.

My only question is why would you share images with millions of strangers on facebook but be afraid/ashamed of the pictures to be exposed to friends and people you know in DDO?

And it's a good question. If you don't want your image to be accessible to anyone that can work out your name, don't put it on Facebook.

Yes exactly. Websites of such nature as facebook and myspace, whatnot, are of dubious benefit to anyone...

And I feel for your friend who (seemingly) is not secure enough in her self image? confidence?... to allow the utterings of fools, cowards and ignorant people to get under her skin.

I don't care who is, what was said, or what anyone looks like. Post pictures to you are ashamed of then mebbe you know who's problem that is.

Regardless of it all. NO ONE EVER deserves to be ridiculed, harrasssed, badgered, threatened, followed or touched.

Why is this even an issue? People see what she looks like every day (no matter who it is). I pity someone shallow and stupid enough to threaten to post pictures, but I pity someone that feels threatened by the thought even more.

The point is, this is an online computer game. People are entitled to present whatever persona they want and have their private life protected.

Now, as it happens, I think the mature player base in DDO means most people have worked through their teenage angst and care not what others think of them; so most people behave like themselves. However, that doesn't give a right to people to "out" their real life personas, including by posting pictures of them.

The problem, of course, is Facebook. If you get onto a "social networking" site, expect your real life personal details to be tracked down if you, for example, form a DDO Khyber group and let people know who you really are by allowing access to your private information.

I'm not excusing the as yet undisclosed person's behaviour (assuming it's real and Mithran hasn't troll baited us all ), but if you're going to feed personal details and photos to sites that claim copyright over them, and sell them to other sites, advertisers etc., don't get too hung up if other people manage to view your info.

Why not tell this 'bully' to go **** themselves? Who cares if the pics are posted here, esp if she's already posted pictures up and doesn't have a persona that she feels she needs to protect. Besides, nobody here cares what anyone looks like anyway.
