The Elfs in the Trees
An elfling arrived just the other day,
He came to Stormreach in the usual way.
But there were wagons to catch, and orcs to slay,
He learned to shoot arrows while I was away.
And he was raiding 'fore I knew it, and as he leveled,
He'd say, "I'm gonna raid lead like you, dad.
You know I'm gonna raid lead like you."
And the elf's in the trees with his bow and arrows,
Shootin at rabbits and flying sparrows.
"When you coming home, dad?" "I don't know when,
But we'll get to raid together then.
You know we'll have fun lootin then."
My elfling turned forty the other day.
He said, "Thanks for the mithral breastplate Dad, come on let's slay.
Can you teach me to evade?" I said, "Not today,
I got some trolls to kill and a lot of gold to weigh."
So he sprinted away, but his hope never did fade,
Said, "I'm gonna raid lead like him, yeah.
You know I'm gonna lead raids like him."
And the elf's in the trees with his bow and arrows,
Shootin at rabbits and flying sparrows.
"When you coming home, dad?" "I don't know when,
But we'll be raiding together soon then.
You know we'll have fun lootin then."
Well, he came from Ranger school just the other day,
So much like a grown elf I had to say,
"Son, you found the Tempest way and Im proud of you. Please stay and display your style?"
He dorned his weapons, and said with a smile,
"What I'd really like Dad, is your Silver Longbow laying by your knees.
See you later. Can I have it please?"
And the elf's in the trees with his bow and arrows,
Shootin at rabbits and flying sparrows.
"When you coming home, son?" "I don't know when,
But we'll eventually get to raid together then.
You know we'll get some good loot then."
I've long stopped raiding and my son's moved away.
I took an airship to see him the other day.
I said, "I'd like to join your raid if you don't mind."
He said, "I'd love to raid with you Dad but there's not enough time.
You see, being a raid leader can be a big hassle, and my guild needs explaining on what to do.
But it's sure nice seeing you, Dad.
It's been really nice seeing you."
And as I descended from Falconer's Spire on my way home, it occurred to me,
He became a raid leader just like me.
My boy is a raid leader just like me.
And the elf's in trees with his bow and arrows,
Shootin at rabbits and flying sparrows.
"When you coming home, son?" "I don't know when,
But we'll eventually get to raid together then.
You know we'll get some good loot then."
