The market is oversaturated from people being at cap and running the same 5 quests for what seems like forever.
The only things that have any worth, it seems, are Firestorm Greeves, large ingrediants, and W/P. And even those things have started to take a hit lately. Plat can't buy you anything, power 5 can't net you anything (except banishing and smiting rapiers, those seem to still have some worth), and most people are looking to use their larges and don't like to trade them away.
So you just get people looking at trade lists and either have what's being offered, or aren't willing to part with the larges for what's being offered.

Havent played heavily on this server for a while, but i suspect this might be relevant to all servers:
If we split up your question into their two parts we get:
Does anyone trade anymore-
--For me at least, there is nothing anyone one else has, that i either need, or cant get myself relatively quickly. After playing so long, for so many hours a day, you get everything you could possibly want, on every toon you have, and bankfulls of items that you might use someday, but probably wont.
Seriously, i'm down to probably a dozen or so +2 tomes that i feel i need and thats it. I transferred a bunch of low level toons over from others servers i had been working on, and i've already got the must have items for them in their banks when their time comes to level them.
--as for downtime and trade forums not flooded yet, man i'm still sleeping at the keyboard lol. Having screaming children in the house is usually not an issue, but this morning circumstances allowed one to sneak in and i'm up and grumpy lol. I suspect that a little bit of my first point may play in this as well. If there's not a large market of needs out there, there wont be much trading going on, at least not open trading. Looking for that last elusive item that everyone is looking for is different.

I think Shyv has it right. Cap has been 16 for so long, and there hasn't been a huge influx of quests/items so there are probably a lot of people that have had what they want for a while. Having a cap that is stagnant allowed the 'have-nots' to get their hands on a ton of good items that the uber-leet have...trickle-down if you. When the cap is raised, the top-tier folks will surely pull away a bit in the loot department and trading will pick up.
Just my theory.

Yep... I'm almost hoping Mod 9 will be delayed a month or two... I am VERY close to getting all my guys "done".
Two spell-casters still need their Tier III SP item...
One melee still needs a bloodstone.
Two melees still need +5 resistance on DT armor.
That's about it... Everything else after that would just be gravy...
Firestorm greaves would be nice for my cleric (or maybe a cloak of ice)
That same cleric could also use a Mineral II greataxe
Maybe an extra planar gird for each of my melee (they all have one, but two would be better).
Yep, us semi-powergamers are almost caught up...
Come on man! I see you post here and I click on it as fast as I can thinking there would be a pic of a guy with one of those trading carts folks used to pull from town to town. You know, pots and trinkets hanging from the side, etc.
Anyway, I agree. There is stuff I want but the stuff I have to trade, nobody wants.

Now if you could trade Sovereign's that'd be a whole different story. Or even know what they are in the chest before they bind.
"Hey dude can you help me grind to get x because the last 70 runs (second hand story) haven't cut it for me, and I'd like to increase my chances 6 fold"
Kind of like Icey runs in GOP.
With everything of value binding from the new mod, there's not much to trade. You can't even trade services really. That leaves ingredients as being the only liquid loot and well, ingredients are just a function of time.
nope dont really trade anymore
dont really play much anymore, logged in last night, 1 vod **** loot 0 raid items, 1 shroud, **** loot 1 L shrapnel, logged off and had more fun logging off than logging in
the game is boring there is no item to LOOK for anymore, and the 0 news or expected launch date of mod 9 just keeps me happy Not logging in, they failed Marketing 101, I blew a solid 2 mil plat about 2 weeks ago buying craftable ingrediates and L and stupid stuff to make rituals, now I have little plat and No desire to actually craft anything for any of my toons as they all need 1 more cleansing stone toons that have been rerolled sit around 30 shrouds...not to motivating and older toons sitting in the low 50s , not very motivating, its just a *****

It's hard to trade when there's little of value to barter.
It's kind of like regressing to caveman days, where one caveman would trade his woman for another caveman's sabertooth tiger fang, so he could trade that to another for an ear of corn and a sitting-rock. All equally useless, so it's little more than shuffling around the same deck of 5 cards.

I'd have to say that I find the trade boards not very useful for three reasons.
1) Everybody wants the same few things, as there isn't much that has high value. With w/p taking a nosedive in value, there's another item off the 'got to have it' list.
2) Binding of items. With the trend towards binding things (such as essences/runes) that reduces assets for trading. For a lot of players, the current useful trade asset (large scales) is declining in value the further we move away from mod 6. They'll be a point where nobody will want those large scales, and its coming. If mod 9+ collectibles are all bound, there goes that part of the game.
3) Too many low ball offers, or extremely high expectations. Its easier to make plat by selling something on the AH, and buy exactly what you need with that plat. Much less of a headache.
Thanks for the long time forum user purge of Aug '10 (Sarcasm for those who don't get it)
I think for the most part that part o fthis game is done
I mean other these items
unbound +2 tomes
bloodstones
Grids
firestorm greaves
finnesalble off hand vorps, smiters, and disruptors
ghost touch disruptors
shroud ingreds
dragion scales
+5 mithril full plate/breastplate/chain
Icy raiments
and for the time being W/P raiper's
I mean what else has value
point is the game has moved past random loot drops there are named items we want but you have to hunt those down at certian chests....
that's just the game we have right now
I've been here for quite awhile.

I think this thread for the most part is like Warren Buffet asking why no one wants to go to yard sales anymore, and Oprah Winfrey and Bill Gates chime in that there are just no good items at those yard sales any more.
For the top 1% in the game (in terms of playing time over the last 3 years), I think the cupboard has finally become bare. There just isnt much left to go get other than larges and a few specialty items.
And of course, it is kind of funny grinding the shroud so you can build weapons so you can...well, grind the shroud faster.
For those who aren't in that elite stratosphere however, there's still plenty of gear and such out there. But Thrudd is right...since the top of the pyramid has everything they want, they'll pay big sums of money for the few things left of value, and everything else is dumped on the market.
That means the middle class has access now to tons of loot they could have not had prior.
Is this good for the game? Well, definitely not for the top tier players who have been here for a long time. Might be good for the more casual players though. As they likely make up the bulk of the player base, what is frustrating the top tier may actually simultaneously be helping the majority which in turn may actually not be seen as a big negative by Turbine. Its a business after all.
Mod 9 probably wont fix a lot of this. The collected assets over 3 years by the top tier is just so big, and DDO has such limited content, that its tough to fix for the long time players. They need a mana sink that will entice the long time players to dump some of their holdings. Dont know what that could be though...maybe cosmetic stuff or something.
But Ace, to answer your original question, I think those most actively trading are those that still have slots with lowbies to equip. If your slots are full, or just dont feel like rolling new toons, then the gear is maxing out other than Shroud crafting and Sorjak grinding.
Im very glad I took that year off between Gianthold and Meridia...still feels like a ton of stuff to do, and I'm benefitting from all the deflation that has happened to gear! Well, and a few generous guildies too...

Two reasons why trading has slowed to a trickle
Bound Items - Instead of introducing more tradables like tome pages and rare random drops that cant easily be farmed we were instead given more bound items as relatively static drops from a select few quests. Bound items hurt plat farmers, and that I think, is the primary motivation for having bound items in the game.
Reduced item damage - I remember grinding out the Threnals to bank extra Retributions becuase they would break every week or two from usage. Item wear was a lot more common, and things needed to be replaced back then. In the past year however, I havnt lost a single item to wear. In fact, most of my gear is bound and immune to perm damage at all. So once your all decked out in bound gear that never wears out theres no need to trade for anything.
Remove or reduce bound items, increase item wear, and increase randomness of drops and trading would thrive again.

Why trade when I don't need anything? Plat is always valuable so I sell stuff and keep the money in case I need something later.

I agree with 95% of what you say here. The only thing is for those of who have only casual time to play yet enjoy running with several of the elite when we are on it's getting bad. It is getting to the point that it is no longer helping the part timers because the elite just aren't playing as much. For example Jrp's post, and I feel like I'm begging my brother to get on and since eliters are at a minimum failing quests (Ie reavers and shrouds) make you so mad and waste so much time that it makes a downward spiral that causes less play time. We have come to a concensus that MOD 9 better come soon, and better blow our socks off or this game may lose alot of its fanbase very quickly.
Well actually, the reason for me anyway the days of trades are over is simple. The out of date power five are easy to come by, and why trade for something when you can easily get better through raid farming and crafting. It will not be long and the lv 2 +1 frost scimitar could very well be worth more than a vorpal kukri. It is already fairly close, you want to trade and sell? get leveling gear and go with it.
