A few points where I think you are way off, and may relate to why you have such an issue over such a trivial thing.

But in a democracy candidates get to campaign to win sway over a hierarchy of power, not to make a shortlist of alphabetically ordered people who might be “solid”.

Yeah, see, this is what I mean. I said "democratically designed", which implies that every member of the community may have their say with a vote. Democracy is not restricted to the mess that you see in today's political process, there are many ways for it to be implemented.

Kahoun yes I know it does, but Strakeln seems to think it does something more and evidently so do some of the people adding nominations. I know I'm not alone in thinking this, I've seen other people making a point of the lack of criteria.

Am I responsible for this thread? Sure, and proud of it. While you've been coming in here doing your best to trash it, the thread has slowly grown to one of the most popular on Khyber, in terms of post count and views. While I understand that you may not like it, the Khyber forum community clearly feels differently.

If you will not recognize and own the problems with the list you have made then perhaps your intentions are not so noble? The point I would dearly love to drive home is that no matter what format a player popularity list takes, it is by its own very nature: exclusionary, elitist, and...

- Both myself and others have pointed out that this list is far from exclusionary. As pointed out before, you can nominate and confirm yourself if you're so inclined. Meaning anyone can make the list, if they really wanted.

- Elitist? Please. Go play with some solid players, then go play with some elitists. If you can't tell the difference, then, well, we have found your problem.

- Invalid? Partially so, as a result of the lack of exclusivity. If any sourpuss can make the list, then it's entirely conceivable that non-"solid" players can appear on there. I don't think we've had any of that, but it's possible nonetheless. Regardless - this list is not the be-all-end-all list of solid players. It's a list of people that have had three votes of confidence. Most people recognize that... *cough*.

As far as noble intentions: has it ever occurred to you that people may be here on these forums for fun and entertainment? If you really want to discover the base intentions of this thread, there they are. I created it to have fun with other community members... nothing more, nothing less. Like everything on these forums, YMMV.

You keep trying to attach other intentions, such as elitism, to the creation of this thread... and I keep telling that's not the case. I recognize that you are too thick-headed to accept that - and I think it's time you do the same. It's starting to sound like a broken record around here:

Also, for the naysayers... Please don't try to bring down this thread. This has been the most fair format of any "Top" thread out there. It should be the standard. It is good to recognize and be recognized among your peers for truly learning and trying to master something you spend hours of your life at a time doing and enjoying. What's wrong with that? Of course it is a little subjective, but this format cuts that as much as possible. By being alphabetical instead of ranked, it even cuts down on vying and fighting for rank. Please let this get back to what was intended by this thread instead of arguing silliness...

I consider that everyone who enjoys playing their character so much that they actively try to develop that characters role to be better, has a Solid character. They might be unpopular or not, they might play by themselves or only within their guild or PUG, they might be level one fresh out of their first encounter or playing endgame elite. If these characters are melee oriented, I would consider them Solid melee oriented characters.
Furthermore I consider that every active melee oriented character that has made it to around level 15 and beyond deserves to be called a solid melee oriented character to have made it that far and still be considered a valuable enough to play by their creator.

No.

What you describe is a solid gamer - someone who strives to improve at the game they're playing (playskills, strategies, builds, equipment, etc). Someone that, given sufficient time (dependent on the game), will in all likelihood be an above-average player.

A "solid melee-oriented character on Khyber" is similar, but with much smaller scope. I think one of the best ways to describe it is when you have an LFM up for a somewhat shaky group and person X applies. If you do a little silent "oh hell yeah" to yourself, knowing that your group went from shaky to solid, well, you might just be a redneck.

Okay, just checking if you were reading. But seriously... we all know that feeling, right?
