You are right about them being good players, no argument there. But I think what Strakeln means (I could be wrong) is that what people consider the "best mêlée" varies wildly based on their opinions... That the list itself is very subjective, as some go by being good stand-alone, or being good in your roll, or kill count, or overall damage, etc...

So this list would have to be based at least a little on popularity and fall in place reflecting the majority's opinion of the best type/player then go down from there.

Maybe the best post would be more like "Top 20 killers" or "Top 20 Defensive" or "Top 20 DPS players" etc...

I run after 8pm est. after puttin my little ones to bed Hope to see you on, good luck with the new comp... I built mine with 4 gigs of RAM, some ungodly video card, surround sound, etc... Works great for my wife running her music and Myspace while I play on my laptop!

A self sufficient barbarian? Say what... Unless its some sort of 'defensive barbarian' build I suppose, but otherwise meh. Barbarians kill things man. Axer had a very powerful philosophy give him all the buffs you can at the start of the quest and then lets sprint through the quest and kill things quickly and furthermore having more then 1 melee in a quest is a waste I will kill all things that require melee you kill things and cc things with spells where they are required. That is why he never recruited melee for a quest because he didn't need them and they were inefficient.

Self-sufficiency is based on the player, the class only makes a difference in the level of capability.

I don't think a real list is as subjective as you think. One issue will always be if somebody has run enough with somebody else, but the truth is the best stand out consistently. Quicktoez for example - that guy always stood out in every quest I ever ran with him. You can call that subjective if you want, but there is a point where you just know that guy is good and it is pretty factual.

I agree regarding the "point where you just know...", however, there is a difference between "good beyond argument" and "considered the best".

If nothing else, the subjectivity is self-evident: people will tend to nominate fellow guild members or people they run with frequently.

None of this is intended as a slight on Axer. He was, in my book, the best of the best when it came to peak THF DPS potential (and that takes skill, not just equipment and stats)... but, in my opinion, there's much more to being the "top melee" than that.

I think what I'm really saying is that "melee" is too broad of a category.

Beat you at what, killcount? You realize killcount is meaningless any more. Anyone can chase down weak trash mobs. But if all the melees do that the party suffers

I was kidding around Boldrin...silly typing doesn't get across tones well enough.

I use subjective approach... its a mix of survivability, dps, and the ability to save/aid a party.

But I see a lot of the names I respect popping up, so no complaints from me on the list so far.

Don't forget Matavius.... good all around player.

Illuminati should be on there somewhere too...

Fully spec'd 16th fighter halfling twf kopesh guy with full tiers of healing dragonmarks and silly good saves, and the ability to go either stupid dps or turtle up and occupy mobs.

Don't run much outside of guild but there are a few on the forums that I have run with who can vouch.

I never took you as one of those kind of tanks when I ran with you, lol. But as ya said , wittiness is generally lost in typing . That's why we have smilies But I've noticed an ever increasing trend of tanks insisting on killcounts. Even in shroud.....I tell the tanks straight up, if you lead killcount in part 1 of shroud... you're a gimp who isn't doing his job, lol. And, they continue to prove me right at every turn.

Hey Nick, you have better gear and are a different build than Axer. On present characters it would be no contest. As far as twitch factor goes, you, Quicktoez, Axer, Naked, Spyral, Digz all are about on the same plane. There are others those are just the ones that immediately come to mind. I wouldnt put Maldini in that group but then again he never had the gear some of the other guys had.

Nah I'm not... I joke about it a lot tho. I do use it to stay sharp... move faster kill quicker and the numbers go up...pretty red numbers
