No, but i am reading "speaker for the dead" right now after putting down ender's game like 15 years ago - sagan is an incredible author.

Definitely. I love science fiction and fantasy novels, but i find myself reading way more fantasy and when i do break away for a bit and hit something like Ender's Game it really makes for a great read where i don't know what to expect. The best part about Sagan's work (as with a few other fiction writers, michael crichton for example) is that you not only get a great story, but he also pulls some pretty heady physics and astronomy ideas down out of the clouds and sticks them in at dumb dumb level for guys like me to think about and enjoy.

I actually really like Franziskaner myself, perhaps i will have to give Widmer a go - hold the fruit.

Carl Sagan didn't write Ender's game or Speaker for the Dead... That was Orson Scott Card.
Plus what does the beer have to do sci-fi? I'm missing the reference
BEER: Widmer is a decent mass market Hefe at this point and is the one that turned me on to the whole unfiltered wheat-beer thing so I have a soft/nostalgic spot for it but have since "grown-up" into west coast IPAs more than anything. Happy-Hoppy goodness.
SCI-FI: I can not recomned Neal Stephenson's new novel "Anathem" enough. Brilliant HUGE ideas compressed into an enjoyable story. I was never really able to get into any of his other books but this one is a slam-dunk fo sho!

Where I work, the beer sells like hotcakes.
I ingested Carl Sagan's words as a small child, became a Trekkie and a WHo fan in my teens, embraced computers and telescopes my college years, and send a bunch of money to my favourite charity, SETI, every year as an adult.
I GOT Contact. Love that movie! Own all his books and next to Douglas Adams, and Stephen Hawking, is one of my biggest influences in my life.

A case of Franziskaner to Chief in Rota Spain fixed my Computer and had it shipped to Souda Bay, Crete (where I was deployed). Makes good wheat bread.
Not a beer drinker myself, but I have a Franziskaner glass in my curio cabinet in honour of that beer. And memory that European power has more aamps than American, and to keep if said appliance can use both.

I have heard mixed reactions to Widmer Hefeweizen. I like wheat beer though. From what I understand true German hefe does not contain the spices that the Bavarian versions of this beer have. Right now I am drinking (well, not now I am at work) Leinenkugel but the girlfriend is bringing over a 6 pack of Widmer Hefeweizen to try over the weekend.
Wheat Beer.
LOL, just realized this as i was out running errands... has nothing to do with it, he has a carl sagan quote in his sig. Was hoping i'd make it back here to correct it before somebody caught me
I was thinking about sagan as i was reading last night and for some reason the names meshed in my head this morning. Meh, honest mistake. Now everybody go read an Orson Scott Card book and compare some of his plot points to things Sagan points out in Cosmos while enjoying the honey wheat beer of your choice.
