    Talking Why Eberron?

Just wondering why turbine and hasbro decides to base this game in the world of eberon and not one that was lets say more popular. Krynn of dragonlance is a good example millions have read the books, its been established for 20+ years.... Not trying to start an argument between you chicken heads but what does everyone else think? Maybe dragonlance would want a cut of the profits so they make this new crappy world, or hasbo just wanted to go on a new path. anywho

my guess is that they have more freedom to develop the world as they want, instead of having hundreds of geeks complaining who some minuscule part was not exactly correct or how they can't play with their favorite characters.

    Default Oh Yuck!!!!

    I AM ALIVE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

Just what we need 1000 Raistlin's and Tasslehoff's running around. Don't I have enough problems with leaky dinghy's in my own PnP campaign trying to completly copy the characters they read about in Weiss and Hickman's books??? Oh barf! If i went to the Phoenix Tavern on Thursday, went in and there were 16 Raistlin's, 12 Tasslehoff's and god forbid 62 Deathknights and 32 Drizzit's I would have quit playing this game 2 1/2 years ago. I like that everything, place, monster and character they implement is new and to be explored. I would like playing in a Greyhawk setting too, but ....... Here we are building the Temple of Elemental Evil Raid group again. Lets do another expedition to the Barrier Peaks, but this time a speed run for favor. Could you imagine the idiot trying to Zerg ahead through the Tomb of Horrors???? I like the product as is, thanks.

    I'm 19037, and that's what I think.

Since DragonLance and Forgotten Realms were so established already, it would have been difficult to implement properly I think is one reason.

Another is that Eberron was the newest official campaign from Wizards when they made DDO I believe, and since there wasn't as much material about it, they could go ahead and make it and not have a bunch of people going "No... thats not how it is in the official material" (Imagine the current "That's not how it is in PnP" type people but 1000x "worse". )

Also, each of those settings has some REALLY odd mechanics that would be pretty hard to implement in a MMO.

Krynn has gone through so many changes that it'd be hard to have people adventuring in certain areas... After all, would it have taken place during the Second War of the Lance? Or in the new age, where magic works totally different than most any other DnD setting?

As far as the Realms... (even though its MY favorite setting) I don't think I'd really want to try playing an MMO that was set there...

Another good one would have been Greyhawk, but again, so well established...

On that note, my favorite settings are PlaneScape (which would have been difficult for an MMO too, though extremely fun I think), FR, and of course Ravenloft (which would have been horrific to implement LOL).

I think they chose Eberron for the fact there wasn't as much material on it yet, and that it was their newest "official" setting. (And so the one they wanted to make more popular?)

    Edit: Also, what Impaqt said.
