    Default EVE online

I decided to try out EVE Online - something about the latest banner ads attracted me, and then when I discovered a 21 day trial on Steam, I figured "what the heck."

I was very fond of Homeworld, fond of Homeworld 2 and StarLancer (especially the mods that included Star Wars and B5 ships!) - I love the epic size and the fast pace of space combat.

So I figured, what the heck... Fired up EVE....

After about 2 hours, I turned it off, and put it out of my mind. It's incredibly pretty, but the combat is agonizingly dull, my first mission post-tutorial was beyond ridiculously hard, and from what I gather from the chat window, essentially I'm supposed to mine rocks for 6 months so I can buy a big ship. Not sure what happens then, but I don't plan on investing that kind of time in something so utterly uninteresting to me.

I played Eve for about 4 years. You haven't even scrated the surface of what EVE is. Listed is an article about not being bored in eve.

You don't have to mine rocks to make money in Eve. There are countless ways of making money. The whole economy into the games hands. If you like to Role Play there are many Corps in Eve that do so. Need to keep up with what is going on by visiting the web page forums.

Wow, that article actually made me want to play EVE less.

Obviously there are a lot of people for whom EVE makes sense and gels with their passions and interests. I respect that, but it didn't do anything for me.

I respect your Opinion. Now go back and play that WOW game of yours, and leave the Big Boy games alone.

Eve is one game that has been out for a long time that still manages to get new players.

They are still growing, while its not for everybody they must be doing something right over there. Most games get huge subscriber bases that fall off, Eve and WoW are the only 2 games that have more players now then when they launched.

Yeah, it didn't make it past the trial period for me.

A friend of mine is a huge EVE junkie -- it's on all the time when he's home - but the things he is doing! He describes his daily routine to me and my eyes just glaze over.. mining, freight work.. managing corporations.. It's just not my cup of tea.

Once i found out i didn't have flight sim controls i stopped playing (basicly 5 minutes into it). If i don't like the control scheme of any game i wont play at all. Don't get me wrong the idea of eve is a good one but i cant "fly" the spaceship which blows chunks.
NO!! I wont correct my spelling/grammar, and yes I lack the power of typed word.
    Been to Ghallanda lately?
Wanna have fun but not sure how? Here is your answer!

I picked it up almost a year ago, and was instantly awed at the amazing beauty of the known universe and shiny metal ships, but when the honeymoon was over it became, well.. dull. It just wasn't enough to keep me coming back. Countless hours were spent making money, researching corporations, deciding what ship or character enhancements to take, and just learning the game. I saw potential, and didn't cancel my subscription.

Fast forward to the now. Still a little less than luke warm for it, but I just can't stop spending my time sinks (and subscription dollars) on skill training. I barely go in and do anything else. My Civire Special Ops gal has some serious skills at stealth, speed and long range attacks, but I really doubt she will ever use them. Unless I rekindle my interest, all that time and training will go to waste. Maybe I'll try to sell her like an old corvette all shined up and overhauled. Maybe I can put my sub on ice for a year or two and try again. Or maybe the rumors are true that in the future the characters will be able to walk around the space stations and some planets can actually be explored.

    Anyone want an old corvette?

    Default played it last fall

last fall when the collassal failure mod, i.e., orchard/abbott raid, was released, i signed up for EVE free-trial

it held my interest for about a week

the biggest problem with it is that it is like work IMO

one cool thing about it is that you do not have to be logged on for EVE's version of getting xp because it is just on a timer that runs even when you are at your actual job

anyway, it has a passionate player-base & does have a large population of i think over 200,000

I've been playing for 3 days now.

Its incredibly complex, but markedly less "exciting" than DDO.

I'm enjoying just trying to learn it all.

    Definitely a "thinking persons" game.
