    Default Survivable Build: Last Man Standing?

    The Idea behind this build is a survivable, high UMD character. Specializing in unarmed combat. It, is fast, with a decent AC, HP, and UMD. And although it deals mediocre damage, it has an OK to-hit, and might just be the last thing in your party alive!

    Speaking from the point of view of someone who frequently ends up being the last one standing:

    You still have to be able to kill the monsters (alone, if you're the last one standing), or all you really are is the last one dead

    Too many creatures in this game have fast healing or some other way to avoid dying that you have to be able to dish out damage at a certain rate (not necessarily the best DPS, but above a certain minimum) in order to make a "last man standing" build viable (aka, survive long enough to finish off the mobs that killed everyone else or at least get their stones to a shrine). There are various ways to go about this - Dimension door is an option (via human dragonmark of passage, UMD scrolls or 9+ sorc/wiz levels), carrying a huge variety of weapons so as to have just the right thing for every creature you come across can make up for low generic DPS, or you can make sure you have the means to sneak/blind your opponents/go invisible so as to get the party's stones to a shrine without dragging the entire dungeon full of monsters in there with you.

    aiming to be the last one standing is a losing strategy. You haven't even rolled the toon and you're already thinking about party wipes. How about starting at the beginning to the time before the party wipes. What can you do to help the party or prevent a wipe.

    I still think that the last "man" standing is still a WF 2 pally / 2 rogue (optional) / X sorc

    Well not every build can be good... To-Hit drops to 37 without flanking. And Damage drops quite a bit. My original Hope was to make a recreation of the batman build using monk levels for higher saves.

    Occasionally whipes are inevitable, especially in the new raid, when a cleric drops, I can hopefully get a rez on them

    I am doing a similar build for similar reasons but, have only planned out til 9 or so which will be 3pal / 3rog / 3mnk.

    The remaining lvls will largely driven by enhancements etc but will turn out something like 6mnk / 6rog / 4 pal @ 16 (10/6/4@20) but, will include all three levels of dragon marks for feats.

    Stat wise to start I went with...

    Str = 10 (+1 tome)
    Dex = 16
    Con = 14
    Int = 14 (+1 tome)
    Wis = 12 (+1 tome)
    Cha = 14 (+2 tome)

    @ 16 i think i'll be @... (tomes mentioned below are assumed as it will take forever to get this guy up to 16)

    Str = 18 (+1 @ 16 / +6 item)
    Dex = 28 (+2 Tome / +2 race / +2 class / +6 item)
    Con = 22 (+2 Tome / +6 item)
    Int = 22 (+2 Tome / +6 item)
    Wis = 24 (+1@4 / +1@8 / +1@12 / +2 class / +6 item)
    Cha = 22 (+6 item)

    I probably could have sacrificed some Int/Con for more Wis when I started but it should work out ok for end game content.

    Not at all the only way. Invis + high stealth build. I've used this approach on several of my characters, many times, to avoid sharing the fate of many ill prepared PuGs.
    My Videos Shadow Mage (ok, it's a build now)
    A forum post should be like a skirt - long enough to cover the subject material, but short enough to keep things interesting.

    True, too often people forget you don't actually have to kill all the monsters in all the quests. Still, if you're the "last man standing", that kind of implies you're with someone who aggroed a lot of stuff and got killed, in which case you do need to have some plan to deal with it
