    Default Spell components/inscription materials

My main is a rogue, but I have been giving more time to my lower level characters a lot lately and one of them is a wizard. Well, I really have no idea what I'm doing with this second level guy, so I never pug as of yet. I'm just trying to get a feel for the wizard class.

    My question:

I have fine grains of sand and I have level 1 inscription materials along with the skill inscribe scroll. Certain scrolls I still can't inscribe. It says I need the correct components. Isn't fine sand the only one for level one spells? How many componenets per spell level? I thought only one each level, but maybe I'm wrong.

Also, how long do components and inscription materials last? I know I ran out of sand at one point, but how much of each thing do I need to keep in my inventory to be safe for a very long quest?

I'd really love to get into playing a wizard but I'm running into things I don't understand. I want to learn and get comfortable before I ever pug with people.

    Thanks

Double check the spell level of the spell you're attempting to scribe. If it is a level 1 spell, then all you need is level 1 spell inscription materials. If you already know the spell (an error I got a lot on my main wizzy lol) then it will tell you. But really, all you need is the correct level inscription material for the spell. Level 1 for 1, 2 for 2 etc... Good luck :0)

    That might be the problem.

I have a bunch of scrolls both in my inventory and filling my bank slots in the Harbormasters House. Between getting killed so much and sorting through those between quests, I just may have been trying to scribe a scroll a level too high. I have seen when it says I already have it in my spell book pop up on screen a few times. lol

So, level appropriate inscription materials -- got it.

Now, do I need to buy like five each? How long do inscription materials last? Do you just buy one and it lasts forever? I know components run out. And I'm still wondering how many components per spell level are required? Do I need something other than fine sand for level one spells? I bought bat guano, but I think it is for level two spells. If there is another component for level one spells that I need, then that warforged guy in the apothacary (sp) doesn't have it.

    Thanks again

Once you scribe a scroll into your spell book, you now have that spell permanently memorized. If you get a scroll you don't have, buy 1 inscription material to scribe it (If you don't already have it memorized). Otherwise, it becomes to costly, and you now have extra inscription materials you don't need. Just wait til you get the scroll to get the material.

Have fun, you will love the wizard. I love mine

Okay, thanks. I think I got it now.

Grab all the level spell scrolls one has at the same time, buy the inscription materials, and inscribe away. Instead of the way I have been doing it which is I get two or three new scrolls, end a quest, run back to The Leaky Dingy and inscribe those few. After the very next quest I repeat with two new scrolls- over and over. The way I understand it now, you gather like twelve new...say, level three scrolls, and, when you're ready, do em all at one time with one single inscription material. Right? If that works that way, then it sure would be cheaper.

My apologies on being such a knucklehead, but I'm brand new with the wizard class.

Thanks so much for all the help!

YOU SHOULD BE!!! LMFAO JK, you have no idea what I went through to figure it all out myself lol. Wizards are not the easiest class to understand, but very fun to play. I actually got my wizzy to 16 just to see the spells, what works etc. so I can build up my sorc. Remember though, when you level up, you get free spells to choose from and inscribe. Check out the character planner, build up you wizzy. When the 1st level spells stop showing up for selection, buy the rest of the scrolls and inscribe away. Otherwise, I would wait. If you get the scrolls in a quest,

    1) it's a FREE scroll and you only buy the inscription material
    2) if you already have that scroll, you now have a back up item to cast from when you run out of mana.

Also of note, stock up on damaging type wands for back up. It will help you and the party out tremendously until you get to next shrine. Happy hunting

    Thanks for everything!

I really am looking forward to leveling up to the range where the wizard comes into his own in regard to power and fun and playability. Being so squishy combined with being such a newbie makes it quite a challenge to solo at level one and two so far. But when I pug with my rogue main and see a really great 10th or 11th level wizard player in action, it's awesome to witness! I'd love to become as good as a few I've ran with...

Some excellent advice I got on my wiz was:

At level up, write down all the spells you can choose from than cancel out of it. Go run to the vendor and buy all the scrolls you can for that level (as well as the inscription mattys). Then you can go back and finish levelling up. This way you make sure you get every spell, and you dont waste money on materials you won't need.

Just to clarify your original questions.

Each scroll you inscribe requires (1) inscription materials, so if you are scribing 3 scrolls, you need to buy 3 materials.

As for components, mouse over the spells, and they will tell you if they require components, then every time you cast that spell it uses one component. As far as I know there is only one component for each level of spell. But, some classes use different components. ie Clerics use different componenets than wizards.

I just started my wiz (just hit lvl 3), and its fun so far.
