Smile Need a solo-only, 28pt build...rest is up to you

I'm just returning to DDO, want to play solo only and do as much content as possible. I don't have the time or knowledge to put together builds myself so I am asking for your expertise! Give me what you consider the best pure-soloist build, regardless of classes or race. I want to be self-sufficient and get this character to 1750 favor so I can unlock 32pt builds for my future monk!

    Thanks in advance,
    Ltldogg

Hm...how about a WF wiz1/ftrX till you unlock drow, then a drow sorc to 1750? Or drow rog2/wizX if you like getting all the extras in each quest.

Hi Arianrhod and thanks for the quick reply. I did forget to mention in my first post that I need a detailed build of stats, feats, skills, etc. and an explanation of why this would be the ultimate solo build.

I definitely like your ideas. Can you now get me the details behind it so I consider rolling the character?

    Thanks again,
    Ltldogg

Frankly, Its as much player as it is Build as far as Ultimate Soloing character goes.

There is no Magic Formula to make the perfect solo character.

Arcane WF and Hardy Clerics tend to make the best soloing builds. I've solo'd extensively on my Clerics (2 Build sin my Index) and on my WF Wizard(Also Linked in my index)

Thanks for the reply Impaqt. Could you spec out the 2 builds you suggested, covering every aspect up to the current level cap? I am still looking for ideas and want to be able to review detailed suggestions and have others review them as well (because I am far from being an expert). Then I will pick one and go with it. I'll then report back, to the curious few, how it plays out and how much fun I have.

    Thanks,

    Default Playstyle matters

You're not asking for much now are you?

BTW, what is your playstyle going to be? Do you just want to complete the dungeon, i.e. only do what you must to complete or do you want to find all hidden areas, disarm every trap, open evey locked door, etc. Just those two decisions will determine a lot on what kind of solo character to build.

Also, there are all kinds of soloable builds all over these boards. Just gotta narrow down what you want to do and then start looking for the build that matches your playstyle.

Well, I'm a little hazy on the high level stuff, so i'll start with the WF, and hopefully someone else will jump in with ideas for the drow once you get the 400 favor.

The reason for WF wiz1/ftrX for the low levels to get the first 400 favor is that WF have many immunities (poison, level drain, paralysis, disease, nausea) which makes it easier to get through the lower levels without having a lot of gear (proof agains poison item, disease immunity item, etc.). WF wizards can also repair themselves (would need wands though, if you start with less than 11 int), and at low levels fighters blow through quests pretty quickly. Your main weakness would be vulnerability to fear & dance spells (potions of remove fear can take care of the fear problem). I'd start with fighter at first level (16 str, 14 dex, 16 con, 8 int, 12 wis, 6 cha), and keep taking fighter levels until you get enough cash for a wand of repair light damage (or marketplace access, whichever comes first), then take the wiz level. Adamantine body feat at first level, and whatever fighter bonus feat suits your playstyle. For skills, you won't have enough points to make much difference, might as well put them all into Balance (or repair if you'd rather get points back from shrines than keep yourself at full with wands all the time). That should be enough to get started with, if you're eager to get into playing. Hopefully after you've done a few quests more people will have posted suggestions for the drow

    Default Need more detail please

Hello and thanks again for the response Arianrhod. I still need more details. I'm not listing my play-styles or preferences, except to completely solo as much content as possible, for the reasons that I don't have any other preferences and I want to adapt the play-style based on other users' feedback. So I'm looking for builds that come complete with level guides on feats, skills, enhancements, spells, saves, etc and then a reason why the build will rock.

    Thanks again,
    Ltldogg

It would be helpful to know if you consider "solo" to mean "not joining a party with other players", or "not accepting help from other characters".

Very many players solo quests, but the reason they survive the low levels easily is they've been given hundreds of thousands of plat worth of resources. If you do not have a sugar daddy loading you with stacks of potions and the best possible magic items, the viable solo options go down.

Easiest and most straightforward way to do this:

Elf cleric, str 16 wis 15 con 14. Feat: Extend Spell.
Cast DF, SOF, Bless, and kill stuff with swords. Heal yourself when needed, then kill more stuff.

While a decent solo player can be built I don't always recommend it. If you are planning to get your 1750 the fact is you will need a group at one point or another. Elite is no joke anymore even with a capped toon on many of the quests. While you can do a good job with some quests solo'ing its just not very efficent and is faster with a group.

    Naturelaughslast,

Thanks for your opinion. I am however still looking to solo 100% of the time and thus requesting complete and detailed build ideas to that end. It's not a matter of speed or effeciency; it's just the only detail I'm being specific about. If you have a build based on these requirements, I would love to see it.

    Thank you,

Ok, detailed and complete. Sure, easy enough.

    Race: elf
    Class: cleric
Stats: str 16 dex 10 con 14 int 8 wis 15 cha 8, points to str when advancing
Feats: Extend, Empower Healing, Power Attack, Maximize, Imp Crit Pierce, Toughness
    Skills: Concentration
Enhancements: elf melee attack/damage, enchantment resistance, devotion, wisdom, dexerity

That's really all you need to know. There are surely ways to improve it, such as prehaps going with a little more intelligence so you can put skillpoints into balance. Maybe dropping toughness for quicken. Or even taking a fighter level to learn more weapons (but in that case, you could be dwarf instead of elf). Whatever, your requirements are nonspecific, so it's all fine.

Clerics are the easiest class to play if you don't know what to expect in the quest.

Thanks for the build Angelus_dead. I am going to roll the character and play with him to see how I like the feel.

If you are going the battle cleric route, here is my suggestion then.

    Dwarf (28 pt)

    STR: 16
DEX: 10 (may only be able to get 8, not sure) 14 if 32 pt
    CON: 16
    INT: 8
    WIS: 16
    CHA: 6

Fighter 1/ Cleric X (take Fighter at 4 because you will need those energy resists)

    Feats (in order)
    Toughness
    Extend
    Power Attack
    Mental Toughness
Empower Healing / Maximize <-- Maximize for Blade Barrier or Empower Healing for healing efficiency and burst healing
    Improved Critical: Slashing

    Stats on Level Up: Strength

Dwarf will get more mileage out of the Toughness enhancements, and can also take advantage of a higher DEX with racial Armour Mastery. Power Attack is more potent on a character that can use two handed weapons (Greataxes) and will make the difference in some 'boss' fights. Turn on Power Attack and the fighter haste boost, pop a haste pot (or clickie) and you are looking at some very good melee DPS for about 20 seconds.

Anyways pretty standard dwarven BC by forum standards. I have played 3 of these builds in Permadeath to level 9 or 10 and they are very survivable and soloable in my experience.

Default Looking for a rogue based build now

I have been playing the WF Sorcerer for a few days now and I like it. I do want to try one other build, a rogue type. So if you have a pure rogue or rogue/X hybrid that would be great for SOLO ONLY, please post it up. I am asking that you post detailed and complete level breakdowns with stats, feats, skills and enhancements based on a 28pt system.

EDIT: I have more details to provide.

I want to be able to spot all traps and hidden areas, unlock all traps, use wands and scrolls with UMD and be a good damage dealer, whether through archery, TWF, sneak attack, etc. I am not concerned with a pure rogue build, so feel free to hybrid as you see fit. I would prefer a Drow, but would take your advice on best class. Let me know if you need more details.

    Thanks,
    Ltldogg
