So was talking to some friends and really started getting nostalgic for Everquest before all the expansions.....

Any other old EQ players here miss the old days there? (Not bashing DDO love the game, just also miss EQ)

Memory that really sticks out for me; My friend talked me into getting the game, told me the server but failed to mention he started in Freeport. My 1st nekkid run from Quenos to Freeport

I played original EQ. I was on torvonnilous from release to just after gates of discord came out (3-4 years or so). Many things I miss and dont miss.

Didn't play EQ, played EQII. Miss it and the friends that I made.

I tried Freeport. Just didn't sit well with me to have to go off and kill good people LOL.

But I loved the desert area. Commonlands?

ah used to love going to the ec tunnel for auctions. You could find just about everything there. Running through killing willowisps for plat the occassional zombie to tunnel!! oh my good times.

Legendary Mistmoore trains! Oh my the joy of running up to mistmoore zone and then zoning over and being dead before you loaded cause someone trained to zone.

Yeah I just left EQ after my second try at it. I was there from beginning and I do miss the old EQ. Expantion after expantion was killing me. I was on a good raiding guild but I could never keep up with faction raids. It became ever faction for me and Hated that! I have a few real good friends there I will miss dearly.. I am loooking forward to DDo I think it has good potential. I am wierd I like playing the lower level chartacters more then I do the Uber ones. My Ranger on EQ was 80th level.. As I say that I still think allt hose levels are nuts and the only way they know to expand is to make higher and higher levels.

i tried it shortly after it came out all those years ago... was the first MMO i tried...

anyone who knows me knows i made a dwarf... got into the world... started runnign aorund... some guy came up to me to duel, killed me super fast of course... i got sad thinking i would be getting killed by people all the time and gave up... it was a logn time before i played another MMO

Everquest seems to be stuck in a cycle where it reinvents itself enough every 3 expansions that nearly everything else in the game becomes obsolete. I've been on and off Everquest a lot in the past but knowing I'll never be able to replay the long gone nostalgic ways has kept me off for good. I don't think I'd ever be able to throw together a spontaneous 8 person drunken suicide party off of the blackburrow head entrance again.

EQ was my first mmorpg in 1999. I started in Faydark and I remember thinking how huge the world was when I got to Butcherblock (sp?) and then to finally take a 20+ minute ship ride to freeport about 2 months after I started. I bet I didn't get to Qeynos until 8 - 12 months later.

I played EQ from the beginning. It was fun for me until I realized because of job and family I couldn't put in the time required.

WoW is the same way for me.

And other then DDO being based on DnD, being able to come in, join a PUG party or raid and then leave and not play until I have the time again, is one of the things I think makes DDO great.

I started playing EQ a couple months after release, quite by accident! A friend of mine gave me the game for free because he was upset at the fact that his dwarf with a large weapon was killed by a rat!! He never gave it a second chance and just gave the game to me.
I played on Bristlebane, and started a Monk!! Feign Death in that game is the best skill I have seen in any game.
What really had me excited was how big the world was. Running through the Oasis before people could kill all the Giants, it was heart-pounding! Plus, since travel time was a must... you could make money being a traveling salesman. Selling Mino Axes from Steamfont, Polar Bear Cloaks from Everfrost... later the whole east commons became a giant spamming marketplace. I loved that!!
One of the best features at that time was when you hit level 20, a live GM came to congratulate you and bestow a last name on you. This is probably the one thing every other game has never lived up to in my experience, the amount of quality customer service EQ had in its early days.
I also loved the trains at Mistmoore. The underwater zone was one of the best, deeply engrossing zones I have ever played in any game. Vox and Nagafen were such a challenge early on. I loved spawn camping. I remember stealing a pair of those haste boots from a group that had been waiting for a long time to see them... back before they were made into a long quest they would drop off a low level mob in some prison type place.
I loved the Plane of Air (I wonder if thats where DDO got their crafting idea from), the Plane of Mischief (although I never got to see what all went on in there, as I was usually by myself), I remember farming the Plane of Hate and Fear, Innorruuk!! The Meastro!!! I played all the way up to the Scars of Velious, killing the Dwarf King, the Dragon King, and the God of War!!!
I may have been the second monk to reach level 60 when the cap was raised, I was also second or third monk on the server to complete my epic weapon quest.

Oh, all the fond memories come rushing back... like the memories of your first great romance. How I long to find a game that can satisfy me like that again.
The best part for me was the real feeling of community, everything was open, no instanced questing. I like that so much better because everyone is responsible for their own actions, and reputations actually meant something. And, cooperation was a must, 40 man raids, certain deep sections of dungeons being camped. My brain is over flowing with memories and good times.
