I saw the word "PK" and thought, "yeah, I hate it when people think that's a viable method to kill a beholder"...

When in VON 6 the leader proceeds to tell everyone that we need to round up all the mobs bring them back to homebase and die. (just a couple nights ago) Then proceeds to argue with me that he did this just the night before and it worked.

I absolutely loved the next 10:00 min listening to them try and try and try to get it done. Classic, just wished I had some popcorn in the house.

I love it when your in a PUG (excluding one buddy) with all capped toons doing the Vons 1-4 prereq when the leader announces how uber he is and, yadda, yadda, yadda and he knows everything, yadda yadda yadda. An hour later me and the buddy are sitting patiently at the end, waiting to kill the marut on elite while the rest of the group have been running VON 2 for the last hour because they are having trouble with the beholders! (THIS IS A TRUE STORY). I lost all my nails drank 4 beers while sending tells back n forth to my bud askign how we got into this mess, wondering how these capped toons are gimped and are unable to run this.

We stayed out of the goddness becasue some of those gimps were trying to get favor. Regardless, we left after completion....."Um... I gotta thing, check you later", buddy responds as well, "um...im going to go help him with that thing"

lol, I too did as I was told and stayed with the group. Unfortunately PK hit the first time. The next several times were not so kind (we were in von 2 and had to start over several times and of course many beholders later). Of course, seeing something work once left the impression that it should work again. A persistent "group" were we. I remember thinking, what am I doing? What I was told I guess and no point arguing. I should add everyone was good people and we had fun, just a good learning experience. I learned anyway.

The party leader gets done with his 10-minute detailed explanation of how the raid will go, and ends his diatribe with, "we wiped doing it this way last time on hard, but I know it'll work on elite".

Hmmm in VON 3 (on hard) I did kill two beholders with pk with the evasion type pulling them to where we could hide behind ledges and what not. It worked flawlessly ... only one death. BTW, we ran VON1-4 in about 42 minutes (clocked by one of the guys in the PUG) and did VON4 in 7.5 mins.

Of course, sending the cleric as a sacrificial soul makes absolutely NO SENSE! I usually try to politely remove myself from a group when I hear ppl trying to be heroes or bragging about killing this and that. I pug 99% of the time and I've only quit abruptly twice 1. because there was a kid in the group (in hiding, of course) and decided to start yelling and screaming when the going got tough and the second time because one guy kept pasting his combat logs to the party chat window every time we got through a mob (I guess he forgot to click on "x" and see that both casters were leading the kill count handily ... then again I don't think many ppl is too concerned with the kill count if everybody is doing their jobs).

I.e.
(combat) You hit blah blah for 170 pts
(combat) You killed Blah Blah

These were no bugs in terrain Hiding behind rocks/ledges is a genuine defense against desintegrates and other directional spells. Not to mention with high level spells the task becomes easier.

Yeah, i love those guys. Last run i was in, the caster (partyleader) wanted me to distract the beholders so he could pk them. I'd move up, he'd fail to PK them, they'd kill him, and i'd kill them. Cleric rezzed him, and we repeated about half a dozen times. But each time, he told me not to swing, and just let him PK it. Didn't have the heart to tell him otherwise! (we were in on normal, btw.)

Good idea. Actually I was refering to a different quest with a group who, honestly, did kill everything before I could tab and cast a spell. There were no targets left lol. So, sarcasm aside, I did know I was in a good group. Did I see you there Razvan?

If the beholder makes its save (only one save vs PK's two), it still doesn't agro.

If the beholder fails its save, it becomes defenseless and still doesn't agro so you can continue to feeblemind any other beholders nearby.

that is hilarious and I can relate to that! hahaha, those are usually the same guys that know everything too!
