    Default web....wand vs. caster

alright fellow arcanes...I have been running around in the desert, and especially in the wizard king I have been havng great
success on the mummys with my web spell...but when i cast from a wand of web it seems to not stick very much

my question is that i thought web was a straight "strength check", does caster lvl affect this? or am I just crazy and the wand works as well as my webs

    any thoughts?

web first allows a reflex save to resist the effects. The DC is equal to 10+spell level+casting stat modifier. Now, since all wands assume that they are being cast at the minimum stat necessary for the spell, that makes web wands a DC 11 reflex save, with a DC 11 strength check to break free. That wont hold a sick halfling toddler for more than a few seconds. Best bet is to cast from your own mana, and when heightened, can be used to great effect even late game. (also str draining spells help keep stuff webbed. web+waves of exhaustion=pwnd)

no prob, just remember that its not just a str check, they get the reflex save also. If you mouse over the spell in your hotbar a little window will pop up telling you all the relevant info on the spell.

Actually, the DC on a wand of web would be 13:

    10 + Spell level (2) + minimum stat required (12 Int, or +1) = 13

But still, that's only really decent in the Harbor...it rapidly starts to get less useful as you gain levels.

Wands of offensive spells tend to be terrible by Stormcleave if the spell allows a save to negate its effects.
    I don't have a zerging problem.

    I'm zerging. That's YOUR problem.

Web wands in particular are beyond terrible. I cringe every time another caster tosses a web when I'm webbing with my conjurer, nevermind when it's someone else with a neato wand, because creatures become IMMUNE to web for a few seconds when they break free, so with their crappy webs they stop mine from working too.
Devs: Thanks for making Druids available to VIPs without the pack. This more than anything, has made me want to buy the pack.

One thing people used to do with web wands, provided there was no one actually casting web, was to put about 6 of them on a doorway. I don't think it's so useful now, with the short term inmmunity. If the original save doesn't grant immunity (only the str check does) then creatures might get stuck for a round or two before they make a strength check and become immune.
