My first day: I learned what my soulstone looked like.

I learned I was not meant to be a caster.

My first day was during head start I made a cleric and soon found some friends to play with played so late that I ended up calling work to say I was sick for two days since after 3 I would have needed a dr's note hard to remember all the details since I have played so much since that time 8 years ago I also learned that even death didn't cure curse or blindness(back then it didn't)

I hate to admit it, but my first day in DDO saw me getting killed more times then I can count on Korthos, and trying every class that was available.

I learned that it was harder than it looked to play. (I watched my BF play for a while before I started.)

My first day in DDO was years ago during one of the stress test beta events. I found and reported a dupe bug and was rewarded with full beta access for my efforts :)

Drowning in the pit with the key in the tutorial... I had no idea how to ascend.

My friend got me to play DDO, my first ever MMO (and still the only one I play). He would laugh at me as I had trouble turning my character. Obviously, I rolled a terrible toon as well. I think I rerolled a few times before settling on a cleric - Josiah - who I still play today (and can now be a 32 point build when I get around to it!).

My first day in DDO, I ran into a trap and decided this was a better game than any other MMO.

My First Day: My character drowned three times because I kept thinking there was something underwater. This was the old Redemption Quest(forget the name) in the old Harbor. I think I was just suppose to jump in the water and climb out to a door, but for some reason I thought I was supposed to swim to the other side of the fenced in area, UNDERWATER. Since it was blocked, and I was wearing plate mail, I kept drowning. Boy, did I feel dumb when I realized what I was supposed to do.

Luckily, I was learning on my own and I was not with anyone else so they could see how much of a noob I was.

On my first day goodblades extorted me, to let me out of the harbor.

Moments after the servers went live I was busy creating my "elf" version of my favorite PnP character. His gear was terrible, but fortunately he ran into Lord Goodblade who helped him out with his first weapon, a magic sword!!! He went most of the day before finding some armor and a better sword. I think he got cursed in Shan To Kor and no one could remove it until some cleric passerby took pity--though that may have been later.

Ah yes, my first day on Korthos Island as a young elf bard. I met a halfling named Jeets. To this day, I'm still fairly certain he stole all my equipment.

I remember thinking every hireling vendor required real world money.
It was a long time before I discovered they could be bought with plat.:)

My first day in DDO: What the heck are "enhancements"? And: Who would have guessed that my beloved crossbow is useless for an arcane in DDO?

My first day was back in early 2006, when I decided to roll a cleric. Healer or pet class is always the easiest to learn the base of an mmo i'v found. Before the day was out Euphonia had pet me through her garbage disposal, "Lord" Goodblade almost got my blade up a certain spot. Finally I learned the number 1 rule of ddo healing pugs..... you cant heal stupid. It was still a good day, what else can you ask for 8 years and so many thousands of hours later?

*please never NEVER add a /time played command to ddo.....

I was excited because I hadn't been a good D&D video game in a long time and now there was one!

Emerged from the Grotto victorious and started saving up for the best nonmagical gear. Oooh, that large wooden shield was looking mighty nice.

My first Day on DDO was in Pre Launch. It was kinda cool. I spend like two hours in the first tutorial quest looking for secret walls and treasure. Exploring something new. Trying to find that thing that no one else had. It's kinda funny now..... There wasn't anything, and normally it took like 3 minutes to get through the quest......

I learned that my first attempt at building a ranger did not have enough DEX for two-weapon fighting. And re-rolled her. The first time.

Started in Stormreach back in '06. Rolled up a thief, kept trying to level up to 2nd so I could survive swimming underwater.

On my first day I realised how detailed, big and overwhelming this game is to new players but I loved every second of it!

Well, it started a little before the first day, really. My Old D&D group was breaking up, people moving away. We'd found out about this new online version we could all play together, so we got the Eberron book, got together, talked about what kinds of characters we'd like to play, and how the game differed from PnP, picked a server (Riedra), and all agreed to get together in game on the first Saturday after release. Made a guild that first day (named for the street we'd all played on together), and stuck with the game for a good 2 years before people started getting too busy with other things to play every Saturday.

I think I ran around Korthos on the wrong server then what my RL friends had rolled up on.

So I then rerolled on the correct server, & here I am 3.5 years later! WOOHOO! :P! :)! :D!

Ran Korthos both sides while waiting for a friend to join up and loved every second of it. Spent most of the time messing up my character and getting confused, great times.

My first day in beta i got cursed and could not afford to get rid of it for 3-4 days and there were no high enough level clerics back then.

I remember loosing twice as many XP points as I would gain, then waiting in a tavern for the xp penalty to go away. Then getting an Ornamental Sword from Gerald Goodblade and thinking how powerful I was going to be. I was wrong.

Coming to DDO I was excited, had just finished a day of PnP gaming with some friends. Downloaded the game and was excited to see that I was able to make some fairly good judgment calls using my knowledge of PnP. Had a ton of fun that first day and still am.

The first character I built died in the original tutorial quest. I then accumulated quite a bit of xp debt, running the Goodblades series.

I can't even remember my first day, but I do remember some of the early days.

I made a DEX-based Halfling Rogue... that went well. I couldn't find traps in Elite Korthos quests (much to the chagrin of the party I was in), and I hit like a wet noodle.

Then there was my Human Wizard, which I tried to solo with. It was really hard, since back then there were no Echoes of Power and low-level damage spells in particular were much more expensive. I was also (and still am) too stubborn to use potions and scrolls, and would rather build my characters to self-heal innately (which, back then, wasn't available to fleshie Wizards until level 12.) I remember doing The Miller's Debt several times, because it was one of the few quests that I could do with my eternal wand.

Then I bought Monk, which worked better. That got me to 1k favor for the first time, and I managed to get to about level 13 with a Halfling Monk before things started getting really difficult.

Luckily for me, the Zombie shroud for Pale Masters would be introduced before long, so I went back to a Wizard... and here I am, still with that same character several years and a half dozen TRs later.

On my 1st day on DDO, I met the guild leader of my 1st guild on the bridge near ship portal at harbor on Thelanis, got invited into the guild, and was taken in to see the ship. I teleported into tower of twelve out of curiosity and freaked out looking at the lightning and lava thinking I was dead meat and ran back right into the guild ship portal :D

Oh that was so long ago. I remember I spent hours making a toon, and hours more thinking of a name, and then, finally, about half an hour on the tutorial island (yes, we had one back then). I still ran those 3 (or was it 4) goodblade quests. So much fun.

I spent most of my first day on DDO walking around Korthos saying, "Oh no, the sahuagin found me!"

My first day in DDO I learned a couple of things. I learned that playing a bard was tougher then I thought. I also learned that my claustrophobia can effect me in a video game. Particularly when swimming in harbor quests. Much to my dismay.

It was fun.

On my first day I spent a lot of time learning to solve a very easy puzzle. Once I figured it out I was thrilled and hooked on a game I have loved ever sense! Happy Anniversary DDO!

My first day of DDO was in the closed beta, early to mid September in 2005. I was an Enforcer at PAX in 05, and to thank the show for doing a good job Turbine extended all the Enforcers working that year beta access.


I spent a bit of time figuring out the changes between pen and paper feats and their DDO counterparts. Once I got a hang of things, I quickly enjoyed Euphonia's Challenge, and all of the various skill rooms outside the bar proper (pick locks, turn undead, and the one with the Iron Golems - we need these back). After moving to Stormreach proper - I was puzzled by the gated progress... Having to do Low Road to get to the rest of the Harbor then Water Works to get into the Marketplace. I kept hearing about how huge and intimidating Water Works was - and when my Cleric got an invite to run it, I was kinda scared. I joined when the party was at the end of Pt 1, and about to enter the Prison. They waited for me, since their healer had bailed early - and I got XP and we ducked into Pt 2. It should also be noted this was the first time I'd joined a full group.

I was hooked almost right away.

I very much remember running along the upper ledge of the Prison, and I was healing the Dwarven Barbarian at the head of the party - and purple Magic Missiles arced overhead to take out the Shaman who had just feared the Barb. It was like stepping out of the books and into D&D. It was pure joy.


I know I have become jaded over time, and I complain more and more. But, it's honestly and truly out of a place of love. I love this game, and I love the people who play it. The feeling I had in that first Water Works run has not left me, and it's what keeps me coming back.


Happy Anniversary, DDO. It may have been an occasionally bumpy road - but it's always been one worth traveling.

On the first day, I remember getting lost in the Kothos Wilderness Area and not realizing I could recall back.

I learned that Kobolds hated me! some things never change.....:D

I remember taking forever to come up with a name for my Paladin, playing the tutorial and discovering I was no good at jumping (before I knew about jump spells)

I remember that first day. I awoke on the beach in soaking wet underclothes. Then a shifty looking fellow offered me a weapon and a job. Next thing I knew, we were fighting giant, two-legged fish.

Day 1: Drowned in The Grotto. Thankfully the magic "you can't die" spell worked. Thought about how difficult this game appeared to be.
Ran some quests in Korthos. How are you supposed to keep that Heyton guy alive in Redemption? If I could target someone else with my Cleric spells instead of myself it might be possible.

My first day? I don't remember because it was 8 years ago. I remember I had been playing Diablo II LOD for a few years and was getting bored. I was real excited for DDO to release. I may have taken the day off for the occasion. I've been a subscriber and played regularly since.

I was so overwhelmed by all the choices in character generation, then, once in Korthos, I was so overwhelmed that I logged out. Hey, I was new, give me a break.

On my first day of DDO? I learned the subtle (and currently ever-increasing) changes between tabletop and DDO.

Normally, I gravitate to the closest thing the game has to a Paladin, but for some strange reason, this time I went straight to...Cleric. A Dwarven Cleric, to be precise. I went with some of the basics: good Wis, good Con, so-so Charisma, no Dex nor Int, and average Strength. All in all, a good starter character that had enough hit points to last, more than enough Wisdom to get on the game, enough Charisma to offset the racial penalty and get some uses of Turn Undead, and as much Strength to get over the first few levels, where magic is scarce.

Got through the Grotto, passed everything...I believe I chose the Wand over the other stuff because I needed it, and then got to the puzzle room rather than Heyton's Rest. I still love that puzzle music, and I think I used it in one of my campaigns, but it was pretty easy. Then I get my first level, and I get introduced, to an extent, to Action Points and Enhancements.

I'll admit: I cheated a bit, looking at the Compendium (wow, can't believe it's gone! Then again, DDO Wiki just does a faster and better work), and figured how necessary it was to build a Radiant Servant, so I started building towards it. Heyton's was also pretty easy, and it wasn't so bad. I felt nice.

And then comes the quest, "Protect the Crystal". I didn't really die, but I realized just how different it is to play at real-time rather than turn-based. I think I lost the crystal twice before getting a hireling and taking control over the situation (the WF Barbarian you get early, IIRC). I believe I finished enough to get to the island proper.

Considering I only had one other experience with an MMO, it was quite the shock to see the graphics, the action and (eventually) the wealth of multiple progressions you could work. Seeing that you could eventually multiclass made me happy, because it's so hard to find a D&D-based game that actually allows you to multiclass. I got in around Update 9, IIRC (when it went F2P), and that's about three years ago (I recall having the free hat for Crystal Cove, as well as the Six- and Seven-Year Birthday Cakes; let's see how tasty is the Eight-Year Cake, if any).

On second thought: I should have started with Paladin. Korthos was far easier that way, even at that moment where Paladin lacked Intimidate as a class feature...

My first day in DDO started at level 1. By the end of that day, I had enough negative experience to reach level -10.

my first day in DDO I got lost in the Grotto. now you know my embarrassing secret.

I don't remember my first day anymore, it's all a blur.

I do remember I made Paladin and chose one of the default paths.....

I remember rushing to form a guild for the bonuses at launch. Also re rolling my negative xp fighter after many deaths (ladders were as bad as kobolds) into a battle cleric.

My first day:
I really enjoyed Korthos graphics.

My first day in DDO consisted mostly of making different builds in the character creation.

I wasn't very inspired for character names on my first day, so I named my first character after a brand of cookies (there was a box next to me).

Fortunately that character has since been deleted due to gimpness. :) (Following the pre-set paths was a terrible idea..)

My first day, I:

1. built a terrible rogue that I ultimately had to use a greater reinc heart to fix.
2. got lost on Korthos Island, completely and utterly.
3. received 9999 plat in the mail from a guildy and couldn't imagine how I could possibly spend so much money.

Noob.

I spent a lot of time wandering around Korthos trying to figure out what Festivult coins were used for. I wish I would have known about this game years earlier, I really enjoy it. Happy 8th anniversary!

First day in DDO - ah the memories. I had actually been playing DDO for a while before I created this account (mainly trial accounts that I forgot logins to) - back in the days of XP death penalties where you had points where it was better to recreate your character if you died too often (good ol' XP debt). My first character was an Elf Rogue with 6 CON - it was Dex based of course.


Alone, Assassina Frail looked around the armorer's shop. The Hammer and Chain may not have contained the work of a master craftsman, but it was well stocked and the prices were cheap. A lot less likely for the owner to miss a dagger or two, especially distracted by the opportunity to gouge that brainless human drooling over the biggest axe in the shop... like swinging 50 pounds of steel really is the best way to kill someone when it takes three turnings of the sun just to lift the blasted thing; one can't dodge a knife in the back. Not that she ever killed anyone, but she knew that the time would come where she would have no choice. Slitting purses didn't earn much when you were stuck in the poorest part of town. The king declared that sectioning off the Aspirant's Quarter was for our own safety, but we all know it was so all the merchants and nobles have all the gold and keep the rabble out of sight. The only escape was to become an adventurer - to gain enough renown that even the most uppity human would pull their nose out of their spiced wine in golden cups. Being an unremarkable thing did help her in her old career, but it was time line her pockets with gold and platinum rather than paltry silver. Shoving the door open and standing tall, Assassina breathed in the tang of salt in the air deeply and became an adventurer.

The blood left her body through gouges that seared her to her core. Who knew that rats could grow to one's waist? Which follower of the Blood of Vol fed these things?! Apparently they were fed small elves. Light dimmed.

My buddy and I playing Butchers path over and over during the original Beta. We didn't read anything, Just created toons and jumped in.

I made a Paladin. I thought paladins would be cool. They were cool. Perhaps not so much any more.

My first day was almost my last. I enjoyed korthos, but got lost once I hit the harbor and wandered away for a couple of years. Glad I gave it another go.

After struggling through Euphonia's challenge, I made it to the Harbor and discovered that everyone wanted to be my friend because I rolled a healbot cleric at a time when having a Bard or Cleric in the party was the only was to survive.

I started playing DDO with a friend not long after it went free to play (I guess around October or November, 2009). My friend had a faster connection. I opted to just download part of it and start playing immediately while more downloaded in the background (I believe that option no longer exists) so after completing the Grotto quest I was stuck for awhile while she went on ahead. My wizard (because wizards are cool!) chose the eternal spark of light wand that's meant for clerics (alas, I saw no hint about the !)...consequently it didn't work too well for him. (In later days I had a rather tough time with the rats on Korthos Island. Those things were nasty!)

I joined a group and they said I could keep anything I got out of breakables.....thanks :rolleyes:

I remember only 2 things:
Having 120 plat and thinking I was rich. Not having the ability to hit traps and locks was pretty annoying.

On my first day after I downloaded in early afternoon, I starded playing, and I don't know how it happened, but I finished playing when I was blinded by rising sun outside. First few weeks, when everything was new, and when pugging with newbs was the funnest part of the game.

Having heard about DDO going Free to Play, my brother and I downloaded the client and decided to give it a go. Hours later we were happily chugging along the Korthos storyline.

Now years later we are still chugging along as premium players having purchased all the content and dabbling with ottos boxes once or twice :)

First day in DDO was preLive Headstart. There was a dock and trainers that showed you how to do stuff. Then you got to Stormreach. Think I died a lot. Something about guards stopping you from getting to the harbor so you had to take the low road through the sewers.

My first day about 5 years ago I ran my first character with my cousin. He stopped playing a few weeks later, and here I am, years later, still going strong. =)

I learned my first day that you have two ways to find a trap. Search and disable it, or Lead foot your way around.

I learned battle bards required a lot of planning.

First day of DDO, huh? Well, I started when the game went f2p, and it was the first MMORPG I'd played. I was sold on the notion that it was D&D in digital form. Seems less accurate with each update, but I'm still here.

My first day: I learned that generating a cleric with Pen and Paper stats was a "bad thing".

My first day was spent downloading DDO and wandering around Korthos island trying to figure out what's going on.

Really don't remember exactly first day but few first days:
Rolled horrible drow rogue ( deleted at lvl 14 when Sands wilderness became impossible )

Someone bought me bow and melee weapon and showed me brokers.

Someone commented how good trapper I was even when I blew half the traps in house K quests.

Someone bought me Delera guest pass, I might have killed 2 mobs in all 4 quests.
True story. And I remember all names too.

On my first day of playing DDO ... I learned that CON was not a dump stat.

I learned that my AGP video card was still good enough to play a cool game at max settings.

My first Day in DDO, I spent 3 hours playing in the character generator trying to create my fighter from PnP.

Then I died in the Storehouse's secret in the first 10 minutes. I was hooked and been playing ever since.

I didn't start playing this until my husband was already obsessed with it. As I noticed him playing, and he started talking to me about his experience, that piqued my curiosity. Ah! The ignorance! Lol.

When I first logged on, I had no idea what "servers" were. I thought I had to pick which world I wanted to start on and that I would end up eventually exploring each one with that same character. I'm pretty sure I picked Orien, and when I first logged in, and started creating my character, I of course chose a rogue because I always wanted to get all the lootz in games. I had just moved on from playing Divine Divinity at the time, so I thought Repair was used to repair my weapons, so obviously had to increase that on an elf rogue, lol. But you know what I find funniest about my first experience with DDO on that day? The fact that the idea of my character being able to jump was mind boggling to me. :P I also refused to play until my husband set up a controller for me because I didn't like the way the keyboard controlled movement. Still use a controller to this day. Eventually had to start over on Sarlona once he explained about servers though, considering that's where his main character was.

First day was too long ago... I remember rolling a Dwarf wizard and having a heck of a time finishing the original starter quest!

I created my AA ranger on Sarlona using a 'path build' as I didn't know how the game mechanics worked. Played solo as I am not a sociable person when it comes to unfamiliar things. I remember everything being so expensive in Korthos. I soloed all of Kothos without a hire on norm due to the pricy nature of the level 1 cleric hire. I was proud when I get my first 1k pp.

On my first day in DDO I learned how fast real combat is like.

I had no clue what I was doing oh where to go or how to build a toon!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I can remember installing the DDO client and making my first toon, Radicaltop, who is still my main. I did the quests in Korthos Village solo on Normal and then explored Korthos Island. I remember being able to solo the Korthos Explorer area but had trouble with the Korthos Island quests, especially the traps. I basically soloed everything until about the Level 5 content, even if I had to use multiple hires from the DDO Store.

I got to play D&D with my two brothers who lived far away for the first time in years (even if I did get powerlevelled in Caged Trolls). Thanks, Turbine!

My first day of DDO:

Hearing the wonderful dungeon master voice over during quests. I traversed and battled in said quests while controlling my character that I made with the XBOX 360 controller. I knew that this game was going to be an enjoyable addiction back on the day after DDO launched.

BTW opening the sealed box that the DDO game came in needed a pick lock skill of over 20, which I failed.

My first day I learnt it takes all day to download DDO on the work computer.
But it ran like a dream ;)

I explored every nook and cranny of Korthos., and spoke to eveey single incidental NPC I could find do I wouldn't miss anything. Ah, good times.

my first day I was completely enamored with d&d that I didn't have to DM. then I felt cheated I didn't level till 5000 XP (that should've been nearly level 4) by 3rd level I realized enhancements were pretty cool so it was OK then.

My first day at DDO? It was the winter of January 2006, I was a beta tester.

DDO has three training dungeons back then on the starter island, which is now called Crystal Cove.
I remembered the first dungeon where you had to go in and kill a high priest, eh, I meant Jacoby Draxelhand. It was a solo quest back then. I rolled a sorcereress and remembered meeting a halfling rogue saying that she needed help, I offered to help; but couldn't form a party with her... Told her about my encounter with Draxelhand, and she said her fighting skills were not up to par...

1st day. learned to blame all deaths on lag ;)

My first day was right when DDO went free to play...I rolled a paladin (cause the character creator said it was a good idea! and I had always played one in PnP)...Anyways, Celimas saved my life in the grotto.....having no idea how to swim or what I was doing, I got stuck underwater trying to get the key from the bottom of the hole in the room where the NPC's fight with you...If I didn't have the spell cast that made it so I couldn't die, it would have been a short career adventuring. A few choice words later and after vowing to reroll, I made it out. I can still feel Jeets laughing at me when I go to the inspired quarter...
