There's one thing that caught my eye with the Artificer trainer. When you ask to train your pet, the trainer will tell you that you must summon your pet before you can train it.
Currently you can't summon any hirelings or pets while you're in town. So, does this mean that Artificers will be able to walk around town with their Iron Defenders? It seems to me that they will be able to.
that's kinda cool!
As cool as it sounds, it seems like more of a lag issue than anything.
except when marketplace is so full of pets that you can't see ground anymore.
okay, not quite but still. If amount of artificers with pets out (and why not, if it's possible and cause no penalties or problems?) in certain area is greater than two.. pets should start building doggy pyramids next to walls to "save space"
Yeah, it probably will lead to more lag.
But I hope it also leads to Rangers getting actual Animal Companions, and Wizards/Sorcs getting Familliars(and then Druids later on getting Animal Companions as well). I like the idea of this tech so far.
It's fine for one class, but please don't go giving out pets to everyone. Not only would you take away something unique, but I don't want DDO to turn into some sort of pokemon...Quote:

FS AoV already can summon Archon in public areas, so it's not really new.
Yes Artificer Pets will be allowed in public spaces. We are not blind to the potential lag issues but the instancing system should handle the load, if not we will make adjustments to compensate.

Grease everywhere, people unable to move, server load skyrocketing... Just save us and yourselves the trouble and make this maximum priority to disallow. In quests, fine. In public, not fine. My immediate thought for a way to reduce the potential lag: Have the Artificer Pets only be able to be summoned, and sustained, in a radius around the Artificer Trainer, similar to the way that your Tavern Healing is restricted to the Bartender on a Guild Ship.Quote:

As for the lag issue, that's what instancing is for. I'm not worried about it. Seems totally manageable.

Most people don't differentiate between stuttering and lag. They're thinking "oh my fps will be bad if there's tons of pets around" and have no idea it has nothing to do with lag, just their bad PC. :PQuote:

99% of the discussion of artificer is speculation partly based off the PnP artificer and partly based of the small tidbits of info from rune arm/scroll drops, the blurbs on the char creation screen and the concept art...there's only been a FEW mentions from devs and its mostly wait and see.Quote:
