How do you rise in level as a crafter?
By crafting :D
Every recipe gives a base amount of XP, everytime you do that recipe you gain X amount of XP.
I don't know the particulars (how much a fail is if any,vs a success) but can say that recipes several levels above you don't give you XP. So you'll have to start with level appropriate ones before moving onto the betetr recipes.
Ah ok so you could just craft some junk with materials you have an excess of using random junk you would vender anyway and raise your skills to be able to craft useful items.
Probably silly questions but...
Are any classes better able to craft?
Does any skill (UMD maybe) or stat (INT or CHA maybe) give a bonus?
Does crafting level have any form of decay from inactivity in that field?
Are the crafted items the same in all regards to random loot besides being bound? (can you add force or adamentine rituals to the items?)
Sorry for the barrage of questions but I'm really looking forward to this. :D
As much as BTC stinks (BTA would be much better if you could craft as such at higher levels) it would have some positives such as an item not taking permanent damage and the economy not suffering from a flood of crafted items on the AH.
PICS!
This shows the ingredients you buy to strip items. One to create a craftable item, one for enhancement bonus, one for suffix effects, one for prefix effects.

This shows the available options when you put an item (+5 Vicious of GEOB wraps) into the system

This shows the available shards to craft (There are greater banes- don't know how I missed them before, no GEOB though) There are dozens if not hundreds of shards. I'm not screens
hotting them all sorry.

This shows the last stage. Combine your shard with a an item. Again hundreds of combinations. Not taking pics of them all.

Got some questions about this:
- Can you go beyond normal max item levels? For instance, can you make +5 metalline handwraps of stunning +10?
- Does the look of the weapon remain preserved, or does that change as well?
- Does this mean you can put stunning on slashers?
- Can you put weapon effects on armors, much like the marilith chain?
Interesting. So you don't strip off a specific effect and re-apply it to a new weapon. You strip off base components and use those to add any effect you want.
I was thinking I needed to save all my junky items with good suffixes (like a +1 Kama of Evil Outsider Bane) so I could strip the EOB off and add it to a good weapon. But I could technically make a +4 Holy Silver Rapier of EOB from a bunch of Tendon Slice weapons.
Seems far too easy to me...not surprised.
Not sure if this has been asked in another thread but:
Armor. Is there any way to use my Drow Hunter Armor and put something on it. Use it as a blank or whatever and it keeps the look?
My Drow Rng/Rog looks boss in it, and even though he's 17, he's still wearing it (haven't got DT yet). Looks do matter to some...
Yes. I haven't spent a ton of time researching this, but it seems stuff like pure good/holy/righteous all give varying amounts of "good beams" (I think holy gives the most) I don't think it matters if it's +1 holy or +5 holy. (I assume holyburst gives more)
For example, if You had a +5 Holy Silver khopesh of pure good. You could do ONE of
A) Strip it for a craftable silver khopesh.
B) Strip it for it's +5 enhancement.
C) Strip the holy for "goodbeams"
D) Strip the pure good for "goodbeams"
From what I've seen, Holy gives more "goodbeams" than "pure good" so you'd choose to strip the prefix.
Keeping in mind, whatever option you choose, that's ALL you get.
So unless you want a specific metal type on the blank there is no reason to use anything other than a cheap masterwork weapon to craft on? Also, can you put things on items that normally don't come with them like Superior Potency on a cloak or Featherfall on a helmet etc....
Really glad I have been saving all my collectibles.
I'll confirm that the metalline property does NOT remain on an item when it's deconstruction. I threw a Metalline Quarterstaff in the deconstruction device and it came out as a plain quarterstaff.
I wish I had some silver weapons to test it on but I didn't transfer any over and the AH is empty. Also, throwing weapons cannot be deconstructed at all.
Lame, exactly what is turbine worried about with throwing weapons... I swear someone at Turbine had a childhood incident where his sibling or someone stuck a Shuriken in his noggin, and ever since then he gets an irrational hatred of all things throwable...
<pictures scene in Kung Fu Panda when he chucks the Shuriken 3 times before he gets it to stick in the wood>
I wonder if you striped a weapon with a specific race requirement, if the base would keep that race requirement resulting in a lower ML than whatever you put on it?
Is it possible to use a greensteel weapon "blank" as a possible blank weapon (for a higher base damage weapon), or must it be a randomly-generated item you strip?
