Other descriptions make it clear that neither adding or removing enhancements affect the metallic property (silver, byeshk, etc) or guild augment slots.

I wonder if there will be bugs such as, "removing the metalline enhancement from an item allows for a new prefix to be added, but the item retains its ability to bypass metallic DR". Hmmmmm

In fairness, it did mention that items retain their starting metal type when you go to craft them, so you could start with a silver or iron or what-not blade that you add things to. To me, that suggests the the second of the things listed above isn't particularly vital, and the first is going to be far easier to work around/without by having specific metal versions of the needed weapons.

While I don't really expect to be able to take properties from named items, I am a bit curious if you can at least strip them down for the base item -- stripping a muckbane down into a glass club to enchant up for oozes and rusties, for example, has some appeal.

If the difference is cost between a +5 Holy Burst Khopesh of GEOB and a +5 Holy Burst Silver Khopesh of GEOB is simply finding any old Silver Khopesh, we've got a problem. That's a negligible cost compared to the incredible amount of value Silver adds in the current meta-game.

I saw that video but I'm basing my guesswork on the current items:

Lorinda's Ultimate Remover: This bubbling, green concoction is used in crafting deconstruction recipes to dissolve suffix' treasure effects off of items and reduce them to their base magical essences.

Arcane Bolt:The greater magical essences of arcane-type treasure effects, these objects are used to make arcane-type shards of the Arcane crafting school. The shards are then used to apply effects to equipment

The focus of the system may have changed after the interview so you are not limited to finding the correct enhancement, you only need enhancements of the correct type and school to make shards.

Does this even come on randomly generated loot? I'd actually be ok with melting my Head of Good Fortune or my ghetto ring of the buccaneer (pre-patch, so double dex bonus, gooo), but I was under the impression that we wouldn't be able to render down named items.

Makes me kind of wish they had left Transmuting alone and just implemented this at the time. Then a Min II (or other transmuter) would have been a perfect generalist weapon, while better DPS weapons could be crafted for individual situations.

Since they are bringing out:
Bow of Sinew- +5 Longbow: (crit range 19-20) Ranged Alacarty 10%, Stealth Strike, Seeker +8, Aligned, Overfocus [ML:14, BtA]

There is offcourse a chance Aligned will be available as a craftable shard.
edit: Since it will contain all elements I would place it under Divine, since all the others are already in it's other sub-types.

Metalline is all metals.
Aligned is all alignments.
Transmuting was all metals, all alignments and all damage types (bludgeoning, slashing and piercing) and was the only way for an archer to bypass DR/slashing and DR/bludgeoning.

My guess, it's scaled by level of skill and item make up. A +5 Holy burst metalline of pure good will have the same level requirement it does now and would require stuff from prob Amrath and Meridia.

I'd also hazard to guess that breaking down items may give skill ups as well. I've stockpiled 8 mules worth of gear in hopes this day would come :D

I'm one of the 13 people who actually like Sorrowdusk, but by definition I am not one of the 0 people who like Threnal, so I identify with this feeling. As someone mentioned already, though, there's always the non-Coyle excavation that can be ground out, so there's that.

Metalline most likely, silver probably not. Only silver (threaded) wraps I know are a named end-reward item, and I while I hope otherwise, I don't think we're going to be able to melt named items.
