I have quested with a couple of the new hand-to-hand style Razorclaw barbarians since their release, and everyone I have asked about how it is pretty much all reply with just "it's okay.".
Is it really not that great, or is there some hidden potential to making it a very fun style to play? I want to know if I should try this new hand-to-hand style barbarian, or if it's just not really worth it.
I'm playing a 12 druid/8 barbarian Razorclaw winter wolf right now and it's fairly good. Not R10 material but easy to level on lower difficulties. winter worlf +20% attack speed, ravager 37 points for +2 range, +15% helpless damage and blood strenght. Nature warrior 27 points for core 4 +1 crit multiplier, +15% helpless damage, +5% attack speed when killing max 25%, flight +improved uncanny dodge from barb with meld twist, ghost touch and ferocity +12 melee power when raging. Razorclaw 16 points for +1 primal multiplier. Total 80 APs. Legendary dreadnought +1 insight threat range and all the good stuff. 16-18 X4, 19-20X6

Hi, there does seem a dearth of razorclaw builds despite it being the new thing. Can you flesh this build out a bit more - starting stats, feats etc? Also what woudl you do with any racial points?Quote:

As noted above, probably one of the better combos would be the Druid builds I would guess. Probably any Druid/Barb style build except replace weapon X with Handwraps.
Side note, I have seen a few Wizards doing well with this. EK/PM ignoring the barb/rage/etc. I have not personally looked deeply into this, but seems interesting at least, but not sure on the details or if its a reaper build, could just be easy iconic TRing build.
A couple of the issues that they have:
- While some races can get away without too much investment in the racial tree to get some solid benefits (eg. aasimar 9 APs gets you 7 recharging healing hands which is a gamechanger for some builds), shifters really need to have a lot of points invested there to get some real power as a handwrap user & unless you've got a lot of racial past lives behind you for the extra APs, it can put a significant impact on the class enhancements you're able to take.
- Handwraps are in an odd place as a fighting style since they're a single-target fighting style that doesn't get multipliers to the stat modifier, going against the current meta of 2hf's AoE damage or swf's fast, powerful attacks with increased stat mod multiplier & double vorpal range, as well as not actually using 2 different weapons which would allow for a second set of useful effects.
Having said that, I've been really enjoying it as a pure barbarian; I went with ravager since high attack speed goes well with blood strength's healing procs & with the extra CON from both barbarian & racial enhancements plus recharging rages, you can use visage of terror pretty regularly with a solid DC. I do tend to play it a little differently from some of my other melees though & try to stay mobile & keep to the edges of combat vs. being in the middle of the group of mobs.
Shifter works well with ravager barb I find.Con-focus. Extra/regen rages. Magic Fang. Spell casting through rage are all great. The animation on howl debuff is too slow, but they have said they will look into that on next update. Ideally should be more like that for intimidate IMO.
Also know an excellent FB barb player who really likes Razorclaw for knockdowns and Pounce, though not tried it myself.
So I'm not convinced it's as bad as many make out.
Neither of us use wraps or shift though, so I can see how that could be a kinda trap?

Very little consistency over the last 5 years* results in the community questioning the developers desire to truly try to balance the game.
I really want to try a razorclaw tanky build with xyzzy's wraps and trinket set. On reaper the knockdowns aught to be great, and the regenerating rages combined with the ravager capstone aught to be wonderful!
(With that said, I'm waiting for them to go on sale :p )
Razorclaw makes a really good shiradi wizard, because it starts closer to 20 where your build is complete, it allows eberron dieties on an iconic, so you can implement a bow or whatever with just rewards and Silver Flame, and you can move the AP saved to implement from EK to FB sprint boost on rage which combines with racial rages to almost permanently zip around at super speed.
Undead form is also immune to fatigue from shifting. Plus then you can just use the leap to move around out of combat. Probably best use of this iconic I have seen.
