Time to revisit spears?

One of the oldest weapon types, there's no 2handed piercing weapon type in the game at all (though admittedly there are a few specific named items but it's not like you make thrusting attacks in the quarterstaff style), and we've seen the good work done by the new animator who handled the vistani fighting style, which while cool, only applies to dual dagger users... a spear could be used by far more classes & builds, even 1-handed with a shield - there's already the ability to use a supposedly 2-handed only item with something in the off-hand (crossbows & rune arm combo) so there's surely potential for another.

spears would make a great addition to the game. You could even sort-of use phalanx tactics with them (although who ever would?)

The way I envision it working would be as a simple 2handed weapon that pretty much everyone could use with it's own animation style but that would also accept a shield in the off hand, changing to a 2nd animation style & switching the power attack bonuses in the same way as bastard swords - as something that was 2handed primarily, that'd lock out the possibility of it ending up in the off hand & dual wielding them.

Glancing blows could be tricky though I don't know how that works for existing weapons, if it's based on a certain angle for the physics detection maybe it could be adjusted so that it'd only get them in a narrower range in front of the character, but could be compensated for by adding a little extra attack range.

If I recall, it's 1d8 damage
They would have to give it to monks and others,
Prob martial
Because it can slash or pierce
It's just a quarter staff with a pointy end
Shouldnt be too hard to animate

There are spears in the game, they're just called "quarterstaff".

Spears are already kinda locked in with Quarterstaffs (like Sireth) and the type differences are kinda meh.

I mean, I love Battleaxe Builds but people largely ignore em if they can juss take Dwarf Axe anyway...


Now Scythes on the other hand... already have code in the game for 2-H use...

Sure it's just another slash damage wep, but the crit profile is 19-20 (x3) in a lot of settings... and 1d6 or 1d8 could balance it out.
