Picking different sides in the FR - Thoughts?

I'd like the idea of being able to pick different sides while adventuring in the Forgotten Realms. No, I am not talking about joining the 'bad' guys, as in people who seek to enslave or kill all they encounter, but I would like the opportunity to join the ranks of a different kingdom in the Forgotten Realms. Every kingdom has it's dirty secrets, and it's possible that one kingdom's dirty secrets would make someone join another and forsake that kingdom. Here is my summary of picking different sides in the FR:

• By default, you are aligned with the Kingdom of Cormyr, like everyone else.
• The option to 'side' with a different kingdom will be present in quests and with possible dialogue with various NPC's in towns. If in a quest, changing factions 'may' cause the player to be attacked by it's former allies. In towns and such, former allies will not attack you, but they will not be friendly as they once were.
• No benefits or paths will be locked out by changing kingdoms (I.E. You won't lose access to quests or the ability to upgrade items with commendations of heroism). The only thing that will change if you switch kingdoms is favor, quest and non-quest dialogue and the types of 'discounted' rewards, usually involving upgrading items with commendations of heroism.
  
  • If you join a different kingdom for the first time, your favor with the former kingdom will partially transfer over. If you are at the very first rank of favor, it will remain the same, while the second rank will round all accumulated favor down. Beyond the second rank, you will lose a rank in favor, so that 3 -> 2, 4 -> 3, and so on.
  • If you rejoin a different kingdom, you will lose all of your favor, since after all, you have some redeeming to do for changing alliances.
  • There is a 1 week cooldown between changing alliances.
  • You will keep your alliance if you reincarnate in any form. If you heroic or iconic true reincarnate, you will be able to rejoin kingdoms once per true reincarnation without losing all of your favor.
  
  
• The types of kingdoms you can join will be left to the developers. I don't have much in the way of FR lore.

Thoughts?

Doesn't really seem worthwhile or feasible really. Only one kingdom really there is the Underdark and Zhentarim but they are evil and that's not going to happen for players(thank goodness) all in all your idea would take more work then it would be worth.

Terrible idea. As is any idea that encourages more FR development. No, they need to either move back to Eberron or start exploring other realms (I mean, if we're going to go with generic fantasy realm then let's at least arrange a trip to Greyhawk).
