Before U17 Goes Live (possible Bug - Otto's Irrestistible Dance)

This is the first and only time I've ever seen this (even on the bard I had), so might be a one-off - but while you're in there focusing on non-sliding enemies, might wanna take a browse through Otto's dance.


Was in demonweb yesterday with Double Rainbow active.

Shot one of the demonic spiders and Otto's Irresistible Dance proc'ed.

The spider continued to move toward my character, STILL DANCING (which was actually funny as hell) and with the icon still on his head. He could still melee.

Now 1) I thought they were immune to mind effects like that? 2) shouldn't he have just stood still upon proc? and 3) he shouldn't have been able to attack when I was within melee range.

Maybe its a double Rainbow issue, because I could swear they are immune. Its even a tactic to manage the spiders in Sleeping Dust.

This particular spider type is classed as a Magical Beast instead of a Vermin. That seems to be enough to not grant it that particular immunity.

You'd think so, but as long as I've known, spiders not immune to dancing have moved around after being affected by it.

This is a new one to me. They usually don't attack when dancing, even if they're moving around. The exception is usually if they were just danced, or re-danced while still dancing.

You sure this is unique to spiders? I've been attacked by dancing bears before.

1. Not specific to Lamannia - same behavior on live, so no reason to be "before u17 goes live".

2. The reason for this is that spiders lack a dance animation. Anything lacking an animation also never gets properly rooted.

3. Are you positive he actually hit you in melee a few seconds after he was danced? (due to the usual complete-action lag known issue). Generally the dance effect still prevents all casting and attacking, just not movement due to the lacking animation. Though thats still especially problematic with spells like ottos sphere, as the monsters can simply move out the effect (which ends it).

4. Not limited to spiders (magical beast spiders that is). Mariliths also lack a dance animation.. EG: Quite noticeable in pop, especially EE as the marilith is ultra difficult, but can be danced (which prevents her from attacking, but not moving, still removes all challenge of the encounter tho).

Similar to a bug as one that has been fixed recently - Wights used to lack a -im webbed- animation, so theyd move around in webs, but couldnt attack (unless they moved out of the web freeing themselves).

I think some spiders also lack a -webbed- animation, should be fixed while this bug is addressed, if ever.

Yeah it already happens on live with all mobs that typically can't be dance, but can be in special cases. Basically it's when they never got a proper animation made.

A few to note:
- Fiend blooded spiders, in Vale, Demonweb, etc (they're magical beasts instead of vermin)
- Mudmen (earth elementals, but based on golem models)
- the Marilith in PoP (only orange named one if i'm not mistaken, same problem with stun too, doesn't prevent movement)
- the rare horned devil in shav (only orange named one again, he might be immune to dance though, but still moves while stunned as well)

for #1 I said "before U17" because I know there's a specific line item for "sliding while paralyzed, etc" was more of an effort to say "since you're working on this already, look over here as well"

for #3 I was till you asked me. Since I was close, it's possible he hit me with one of those projectiles they spit - I was close to him and the camera was at a bad angle at the time... I took like 10 dmg, so I know he hit me with something - appendage or drool - just dunno which now that I think about it.

This one makes sense, since spiders are natively immune to web.

They're actually not. They are immune to their own web, but not others. This was explained in a dev post some time back as well.

Certain spiders in ddo may be flagged as immune to web, but some are not, ive sucessfully webbed plenty. Maybe the magical beast/vermin thing too, not tested it enough to be sure.

I do know that the fiendish spiders are immune to web and dancing of any sort. They can, however, be held.
Then again, it's been about two updates since I've run a caster against fiendish spiders~
