The Super Basic Crafting Info

How it basically seems to work. Most of this (I believe) has been covered before. and will likely soon be covered in far greater depth.I know a number of people wanted the very basics of how this works though so..

You can buy 4 items form the crafting vendor. These allow you to
- strip the + from an item
- strip the prefix from an item
- strip the suffix from an item
In all cases the item is destroyed.
The 4th allows you to prepare an item for crafting. This changes your item into a plain version of the item.
This removes everything else from the item ,but allows you to craft on it.
So if you put in +5 Holyburst Handwraps of Greater Evil Outsider Bane and use the "prepare an item for crafting" cleanser, you get Handwraps. Plain + nothing wraps.

When you do strip anything (bane/holy etc) from an item, you do not get that thing as a craftable material.
What you get are crafting ingredients. (Greater evil outsider bane gives 32 "light" ingredients, stunning 10 gives 32 'water" ingredients,etc) (Evil outsider bane gives fewer, stunning 6 gives you 12 water ingredients iirc)

You then combine a certain number of ingredients,with various collectables (khyber/siberius shards, amber vials etc)
to produce a shard. You can then combine the shard with an item that you have prepared for crafting to give it an effect.

Ahh, interesting, interesting! Thank you for outlining the steps, that's going to mean I need a lot more mules than I thought if desconstruction gives you a sort of semi-generic craft material rather than like "essence of greater evil outsider bane." Also good to know about the collectibles...guess I should go back to clicking on every sparkly now. Hm.

What do you bet that the DDO store will start selling the basic collectibles that are used in crafting within 1 year?

first question is

is metal type removed from weapons and armor?

I would expect metalline to be removed as it is not a metal type , but say silver from a wepaon or mithral from an armor type would be disappointing

I'm not sure it'd even be a year, really.

Doh!... how did I forget to test this?
There is an instruction box that says if you prep an item for crafting (stripping all enchantments off of it) it does retain it's basic material. So a +3 Silver rapier should theoretically give you a plain silver rapier to craft on. I did not test it to see if it worked though.

Actually the reason I didn't test this was because I was intelligent enough to not transfer over toons that actually had silver items etc on them. I'll see if I can dig one up to test. (Or I'm sure someone who has tried can post)

Item material type is kept after making the item 'Blank'.

I made a 'blank' craftable Mithral Breastplate, and a 'blank' craftable silver longsword so far.

Altho, +5 enchantment shard crafting requires 75 rank in Arcane Crafting......

Tested - material types remain on the item.

Does this work with Metalline, is the real question.

No, Metalline is not a material type, it's a prefix. (which is why you can have metalline silver/cold iron weapons)

I believe the question should have been more appropriately phrased as:
"Is the stripping of metalline bugged such that the metallic DR-bypassing properties remain on the weapon?"

This crafting system is missing a very important thing; to let us know if a shard is going to be a suffix or a prefix. I can't tell.

Wait! You mean to tell me that I cannot add more effects to an enchanted weapon? That I must first purge all the effects from said weapon?

For example, to add Force Burst to my +3 Cold Iron Shocking Burst Great Axe of Pure good with Festival Icy Burst and Force critical, I must strip the shocking and icy burst, pure good, the + enchantment, AND the force critical from that weapon?! o_0

What's the EXP leveling rate? 1 exp per crafted item?

You wouldn't be able to add force burst to it anyway, even if you had cafted it yourself from base.
It already has a prefix of shocking burst.

This crafting isn't about adding an effect like Risia was. This crafting is about creating items from scratch in any way that we want, as long as it would be something possibly found on randomly generated drops.

You'll be starting with a blank weapon, if you deconstruct the above weapon you will have a blank weapon.

Could you post a screenshot of the crafting system? Particular the part where effects are added. I want to know if it's like Euphona's barter box, or if it is more "in-the-dark" like Greensteel crafting.

For the multiple PM's with essentially the same question..

No,it does not appear that you may craft an indefinite number of prefixes and suffixes onto a weapon.
I've been asked three times now, so- as far as I know you can not create a Holyburst Vorpal Banisher
of destruction and multiple banes.

Others with more experience may correct me if I'm wrong,but it seems we are limited to the one prefix/one suffix. like "normal" weapons. This does not appear to be something intended to replace GS or Named items.

It's like the barter box.
The available recipes/construction/deconstruction options change with whatever you put in there.
