Web Guild Chat
As I work all day, I must admit, I have a spare pc up and running DDO, just to chat with my guidlies during the day.
I would love to see a web-based guild chat system. Some way to chat with my guildies without having to log on to the servers. Since I am not really playing, would save a connect to the server and allow me to chat to friends who are playing and have questions.
If a lame idea...i'll bow out gracefully

I like the idea. Not sure how hard it would be to bring to life, but I am all for more communication within the DDO community.

There are currently two ways I know to do this. One is to use vent and xfire. Vent will allow you voice chat in the game or from outside but will cost for a server, but has much greater clarity than the DDO voice chat. Xfire adds stuff like screenshots and video capture as well as ability to chat from outside the game to someone inside the game but takes up some resources in space and bandwidth but is free. Of course your friends must also agree to install these programs for this to work.

There are several ways to do this.
listed in no particular order!
1) Ventrilo or Game Speak
2) Skype
3) Any guild hosting site, (as most of these have chat channels available)
4) xfire
5) Messenger
If none of these appeal to you, use smoke signals or morse code!
My opinion is to go with ventrilo, as it has the best voice codecs and widely used by many guilds.

I already run a vent server over a fiber, works nicely. Even have guild chat on our personal guild site.
Was more interested into connecting via the actual guild chat from the servers, via my login info. This would require Turbines' attention i am guessin.
Not everyone uses outside apps for communications, but soemthing into the guild chat system on the servers, that would would be very nice.
Maybe something off our guild section of MyDDO.
For all I know, maybe someone wrote a lil app to do this already, and hadnt seen it yet.
Added: I guess if I could chat with my guildies via the in-game system, I would prefer that, it is direct. And would save a connection into the game servers, simply because I want to chat. Kind of makes me wonder how many other connections into the server could be saved for those that just want to chat with friends and guildies. Would this save on Lag issues, if there are a few others doing this.

Pretty sure there would be no way into it other than DDO providing some sort of small utility that you could log into and connect with your buddies. I would like to see both the voice chat and in regular chat updated as they are both a little clunky compared to some of the alternatives.

Keep in mind that he might want a more text system as he is at work. Just throwing out there. :)

We use mumble
it's free and more than worth it!

All the chat channels are hosted by gamespy. Connections are TCP and unencrypted. I'm sure somebody with enough free time could hack up a standalone client for it.
