Is there a way to boost voicechat volume through a settings file past the ingame max?

Guys I'm new to the game and have been encounting a really annoying issue. I've found some players voicechat volume in a party situation is ok but much of the time it just does not come out loud enough. Also, I like to have winamp playing in the background when I play, and even with winamp volume at 1-2% it is still very difficult to hear most people.

My question is this.

Is there a way to boost voicechat volume through a settings file past the ingame max?

For example I believe the ingame max is a setting of '1'. Is there a txt file of some sort that I could change that value to say a 2 or higher?

If you tried all the switches/settings in the Audio UI, try this. Turn other things down, like sound effects narriation ect..

Then turn up your speakers..

Check the Windows volume settings. They have a great effect on in-game volume as well.

Think of the ingame volume as kind of like the preamp in a high-end stereo system while the widows setting is like the power amp volume.

I adjust the windows mixer (I use Vista and there is a seperate volume for Applications... There are similar settings in XP but I can't remember which one controlled game volume) to maximum, then use the ingame volume to adjust for best quality sound and the inline volume on my headphones for comfortable level (optional).

If you still have issues with some players they may have to adjust their "mic gain" slider in-game. If they are very loud or distorting they need to lower the gain. If they are very soft they may need to increase the gain. There are also Windows settings for microphones as well, depending on which windows version.

You may want to ask the next group you're in about how you sound and adjust accordingly... This can be done while you wait for the group to fill up.

My windows volume is maxed out. Again the problem isn't that my ingame sound isn't loud enough. It's the ratio of those sounds to the voicechat volume. Specifically I want to be able to have winamp on (low grant you) and still be able to hear when people speak. I have ingame music completely off and the sound effects very low.

I am not familiar with the ability to increase the sound volume for specific applications in XP. Could you explain in a bit more detail how to do that? I just toyed around with some various settings and couldn't find anything to that affect.

If you are on XP, try the following;

1: Click on Control Panel

2: Click on Sound and audio devices

3: Click Properties

4: Select Volume

5: Click on device Volume then click on Advanced

6: Go to options in the upper left hand, select and then click on Properties

7: Go to Show the following Volume Controls, and when selected make sure that Microphone is selected.

8: At the Volume controls screen select the advanced option under the microphone potion.

9: On this page there will be a toggle for "1 Mic Boost". Make sure the mic boost is on.

This is how I fixed my low mic volume problem on XP.

It's other people voice chat that is low then, especially if you notice some people being louder than others. And there isn't anything you can do about that.

Oeuf, my volume is actually fine. It's other peoples voicechat that I am trying to get increased.

I had the same problem and on suggestion from another post I went out and purchased a USB headset. I picked out Plantronics skype USB headset from Walmart for around $30 and it solved the issue. I can hear all the voice chat perfectly using the USB headset only for voice and leaving the rest of my sound to my desktop speakers.

Hrm that sounds really interesting. I have some headphones, how can you make it so that the voice from ingame only comes through the headset?

try turning down all the other volumes, then turning up windows volume.

I have my game volume on 0.03 and my voice chat on full :)

There's a drop down menu at the bottom of the audio panel that does this. It's pretty obvious once you read it which one it is(something like "Voice chat output").

There should be a way to increase voice volume. I can hear okay most of the time, but dislike that I have no adjustment room (most sounds at 10-40%, voice at 100%, just to hear clearly.

The headphone trick does work well. I have that on another computer where voice alone goes to the headphones and all other sounds go through the main speakers.

While your at it do everyone a favor and enable push to talk!
Really getting sick of hearing heavy breathers, people coughing , screaming at kids , eating chips and all that stuff.
I would suggest putting the push to talk button on one of the side buttons on the mouse.
Yeah I know that a lot of people are going to say "I have voice activation on and I have no problems" and all I have to say, do you know what it sounds like when you take that headset off and drop it on the desk as you run to get a drink ?

The issue with some people being barely audible while others are fine and some are too loud has been around at least as long as I have. Sorry, I don't have a fix for you.

I had a similar problem. All ingame settings maxed out and Windows mic settings maxed out and still noone could hear me. In my case it turned out to be my headset. I bought a new one and now I can be heard just fine. I still think that some players aren't aware that they're settings may be the problem and assume it's everyone else. For example, one guy (someone I know and could point this out to) uses an open mic. Well, while he's playing his kids have Sponge Bob on in the background at near maximum volume and he's listening to music at the same time. He'd say to me, with allllllll this noise going on, "I can't hear you, man."

I had to tell him, "Dude, do ya think it might be the Sponge Bob you're broadcasting to your entire neighborhood while using an open mic that might be the trouble?" He said something like, "Oh, uh....yeah."

Doh! We don't have trouble now.

The problem is that the nearly mute player is not always the same person. IThere have been many times that I would be in the same group for several quests. In one quest, person A can barely be heard while person B is just fine or even too loud. Then in the next quest is might be opposite. Yes, it is often the settings of an individual. But it is just as often some sort of glitch.

Plantronics FTW. Ive been using Plantronics for the last two years and Im sold on them. They are not only comfortable to wear for hours at a time, but they deliver excellent headphone and microphone sound. The problem with barely audible or distorted voices from other players is usually due to their cheap $12-19 microphones, which simply dont cut the mustard. Not a whole lot you can do about it from your side, except follow the suggestions given in this thread. The real problem is the sub-standard equipment other players are using.

This is the only solution I've found to the problem.

USB headsets are overpriced, and overrated. Search your local garage sales and military surplus stores, and you might find a bargain deal like mine. I got my headset for $5. Originaly it was $10 but I talked them down. Its built to last, and noone complains about my sound quality..

What other have said, getting a headset with only the voices going to the headset will help alot. I to use Winamp and can turn it up very high and I dont have much problems with other poeples voices.

If you do have a problem with other peoples voice, ask them politely to turn up there gain a tad and make sure you have the voice volume turned up.

The problem is that people dont know how to adjust their mics and they blame it on DDO, it not DDO its the person. You have everything you need to get peoples voices turned up or turned down if they are to loud, just taking the time and learning a little about there computers and DDO sound controls would help alot.
