Introduction:

I have tried various Feydark Illusionist builds. This is the easiest to play so far, and ideal for Racial TRs.

Note that the emphasis is on shadow magic, with Angel of Vengeance synergizing by adding an additional +8% crit chance on Force spells. Your offensive spells are SLAs, so benefit from permanent Maximise and Empower at no SP cost.

THF melee is used mainly to mop up wounded or stray mobs. Hence I haven't taken Improved Critical Slashing as I am using Tail of the Scorpion (which doesn't benefit from it) from level 14. Likewise, I haven't taken Precision, because I am not really relying on Critical Hits, and Power Attack takes up some of the slack. Alternatively you could ask Fred to switch Power Attack to Precision at any suitable point if you prefer, the requirements are met.

FVS is mainly for self-healing and spell points.
Barbarian is for Blood Tribute and +40% strikethrough. (Blood Tribute is the more important of these, it makes boss-fights relatively trivial).
Fighter is for the extra feats, and being able to take Improved THF and Greater THF earlier than would otherwise be possible.

If you wanted a more melee-orientated build, you could take two more levels of Barbarian and T5 Frenzied Berserker instead of T5 Feydark Illusionist. But I just love permanent Displacement too much to give it up.

This is a Half-Elf build with Dilettante fighter to give Martial Weapon proficiency from level 1. If you are not making a half-elf build, you might want to take a level of Barbarian earlier than level 5 to get proficiency.

The order of taking enhancements is
Feydark Illusionist 23 (for Greater Colour Spray, Shadowblade III and (most importantly) Fan of Shadowblades III, which you want to get as early as possible, at level 6)
Frenzied Berserker 12
Feydark Illusionist 24-32 (for permanent Displacement at level 12)
Frenzied Berserker 13-15
Feydark Illusionist 33-34 (Magical Attunement II)

then take Angel of Vengeance and the rest of Feydark Illusionist in whatever order you like. I don't find the additional Illusion DCs from FI T5 a high priority in Heroics, as Greater Colour Spray is close to no fail with 3 previous Deep Gnome lives and Reflective Bloodstone.

I don't really enjoy using Ring of Shadowblades much, hence only 1 point spent on it.

And without further ado, here is the build:

How about a split with 3 Fvs, at least 12 Wiz, and you can still toss in a Barb level for the runspeed if you like?

38 FI, 23 Archmage, 6 PM, 12 AoV

That gives you more overall Force crit - 14% in AM, another 6% in AoV - and you get passive Negative healing instead of active Positive healing/Blood Trib. Plus you get a PK and Arcane Bolt SLA to bolster your rotation, and Displacement SLA saves you 2 points in FI T5

Note that capstones are irrelevant for a RTR build, since you'll only get them when you're already ready to TR...you'll only be at 20 long enough to get your Tokens and reset :)
