How to build INQUSITIVE ... (Gear 1-30)???

I am looking mostly for leveling help from 1 to 30....

What i need to know is what i am looking for in gear

INT item + INS INT + QUAL INT... check mark!
Con item + Ins con + QUal con
Ranged ALACRITY... got it in the quiver!

Ranged power?? where does this come from???

what else am i looking for??

I wouldn't bother with Qual Con unless it nicely fits your endgame gearset. Ranged tend to be squishy and there's no PRR/MRR in the tree, so you'll get more benefit from things like Dodge and Displacement

Ranged Power comes from the Inquisitive tree, potentially a class tree (you haven't listed those), EDs and Filigrees / item sets.

Other vital gear:
- Ratcatcher (Threnal)
- Silent Avenger Set
- Wallwatch Set (Profane Experiment ok too)
- Maybe a low-tier Thunderforged or KotB crossbow?

Most other things are going to depend on your exact class split, what other things you want to do (eg, FvS Inq might want some healing), and what level of gear tetris you're committing to. I ran Silent Avenger + Wallwatch + Ratcatcher to 20 using random loot otherwise, and that was on a 18 Wiz / 2 Arti EK/PM Inquis. Inq is pretty dang strong and doesn't need much gear to supplement its power before cap

what base class?

if you're an artificer/ranger, you're often better off using repeaters and spending AP in DWS until level 8 or 12.

lvl 7: red fens set
lvl 10: silent avenger set
lvl 15: wallwatch set
lvl 29: legendary wallwatch set

build rest of gear around those sets

Some advice from me: :)

I have pew pewed a lot with inquis. I usually use ratcatcher or lvl 15 nightshade shooter from heroic levels and up to lvl 28. At lvl 29 you'll have much better options. Those two crossbows are quite equal when it comes to DPS at epic levels, but I switch between them depending on which mobs I face. Ratcatcher crits more and higher, so is fun if you like high numbers. :) AFAIK, only epic Storm beats those two at lvl 20-28.

I use the lvl 15 wallwatch set until lvl 29 when I switch to the legendary one. The set bonus is incredibly good for an inquis.

You didn't specify what class you want to focus on. Most classes can be built as good inquisitive. It's quite popular to multi class. Popular options to include are ranger 6 or 9 (for some free ranged feats, DWS tree and sniper shot and possibly evasion at lvl 9 if you want to dig that deep into ranger), arty 2 or 4 (runearm, some free ranged feats, free bolts and some nice low level spells) and rogue (evasion, sneak attack dice and more).

You also want to have harper as enhancement tree, for Know the angles and also possibly for int-to-hit and int-to-damage (depends on what options you have from other classes like rogue and arty).

If you're looking for the optimal class split in terms of DPS and utility, I would guess it is rogue 12/ranger 6/arty 2 or maybe rogue 18/arty 2, but there are an endless number of fun combinations to try out and most work quite well and are fun to play.

So i can go NAKED gear until red fens set? or even Raven-loft?? what types of Items do you gather when leveling?

and ignore what class i am using... WHEN I OPEN A CHEST AT LEVEL 2 in the harbor what am i looking for? Orr better yet, when you play HARDCORE and start with nothing what are you looking for in your chests???

Imagine i am level one and have NO IDEA what i am doing. Just basic knowledge of how to build an inquisitive/crossbow/ranged...from basic gear



ps just finished all my racials, so will have 13 racial points for the tree and go DG for the LIGHT crossbow....i will use some sort of rogue, arti, ranger split to get lots of good ranged FEATS. Just need to finish 2 cleric, 3 alchemists, 3 arti lives for triple completionist..

I know to look for Light Crossbow KEEN VORPAL with red aug..

sneak attack items?
dodge/ saves/ppr/mmr item?
where do you get ranged power from before i get gear SETS? at level 1-10?

I would say the same things you look for for any other toon. Int/Con then everything defensive, such as what you have already mentioned. There's no magical gear set up for level 1-6. Just my opinion, anyway. And yes you can go dang near naked until Red Fens set.

It was nerfed from 17-20 x3 -> 18-20 x3. That's still +1 crit multiplier and range higher than any other light crossbow and it's available at level 8. The math is going to be build-dependent, but besides my suggestions of TF or KotB weapons, a quick glance at the wiki list says the only other easily-accessible contender is Screamshatter. Epic Storm is certainly better in epics, but I'm not gonna offhandedly suggest a S/S/S item from a decade-old raid

You can notice that this gear set somehow does not include enhancement bonus to Int.. which is my main stat. Yeah. I quaff fox cunning pots or use house P buffs.

You can notice that I am using repeaters and I will switch to Ratcatcher/Inquisitive at 12

Yeah from L1 through L7 just use whatever you find that's helpful...it goes fast and easy enough that you're better off just doing it than spending time trying to gear for it. At L8 you get Ratcatcher and, if you want, Slavers, and that'll do you fine till Ravenloft if not all the way to Sharn. Inqui is all about offense making everything else an afterthought.

I find the breakeven point is a little sooner, depending on gear of course, and depending what your other available trees are...but the divide between an RXB and DXB seems to be around L6 or so, whenever you can get 12 points in Harper plus the second tier of Law die in inqui. Especially if you're chugging Haste pots, since those favor DXB. From L6 to L8, its pretty much 50/50 though. Then at L8 you get Ratcatcher and you can drop RXBs and not look back.
