View Full Version : Inquisitive "Divine Inquisition" non-functional with favored feats (bug? wai?)

This may be news to those not doing their own tests on Inquisitive (likely isn't news to those that do). None of the favored weapon feats, such as "Follower of .." (to-hit +1), "Child of .." (+2 hit/dmg), "L6 unique" (eg. "Blessing of Silvanus"), etc.. work with either light or heavy crossbows after taking the "Divine Inquisition" enhance, which should cause them to be treated as favored weapons and thus acquire all the perqs associated with the existing favored weapon/s for that deity.

I did not test Favored Soul wis|cha to-hit/dmg feats or any of the warpriest enhancements that should also trigger on favored weapons (those didn't interest me :p).

Those aren't bonuses to Favored Weapons, though, and nothing ever says they are. They're bonuses to the specific weapon that the deity favors. Only things that give bonuses to "favored weapons" like war priest will work with divine inquisition or wood elf etc.

I would like to see the feats redesigned/combined. All deities should grant the same Child of Deity/Beloved of Deity feats - rather than having individual feat for each deity. The feats would work universally, e.g.

Gain bonus to attack and damage when wielding a deity weapon
- If it 's a simple weapon, gain x.
- if it's a martial weapon, gain y.
- if it's an exotic weapon, gain z.

It's intended that at this time those Feats do not work on Favored Weapons outside of the one you picked for your Deity. We'd like to fix that in the future.

This is somewhat close to how we'd like to change those Feats - Granting the basic stat bonuses to any Favored Weapon you've got available. Retrofitting feats like that is a medium-complicated affair though, so we'd have to budget the time.

That's interesting. Thanks for the reply. I'll keep my favored-weapon inquisitive on the shelf then in case things change.

I would NOT expect the Silvanus crit bonus to apply to alternative Favored Weapons, though, if that's what you were fishing for...Child/Beloved, yes, so you'll get a small smattering of hit and damage - but nothing worth shelving your build over right now...

Silvanus got that bonus specifically to give Mauls a niche, since they kinda sucked otherwise - just like KT improved other underserved weapons. But I cannot envision a scenario where Inquisitive Xbow or Falchions get another stacking +2 Crit Range, that'd be completely OP and make Silvanus builds like 90% of endgame.

Ultimately, Favored Weapons right now is a kinda pointless mechanic except for one thing: Grace/Knowledge of Battle. That's the only reason to build around Favored Weapon specifically. Warpriest/Soul Favored Weapon attacks are negligible (radiant) or overpriced (anything in T5), and the one you really want (Smite+Vuln+Amel) is not restricted to Favored anyway.

In the past, when artificers were introduced, you did go back to add rune arms to various quest chains, etc. This was very nice.
In an ideal world, when you design stuff like inquisitive, these kinds of collateral changes should be planned along. Clean up deity feats / tweak swash tree slightly to better support xbows, etc.
Anyway, glad to hear that deity feats are on the radar. Are you perhaps also considering some swash tweaks? (Different Tack for simple crossbows, maybe also Wind at my Back for crossbows, probably reduce AP cost of action boost to match other trees while you're at it...)
