IMPORTANT LIMITED TIME ANNOUNCEMENT!
Escapistmagazine.com March Madness!
Last year, Turbine Upset the gaming world by coming in FIRST! Lets show em it wasnt a Fluke! We're Currently down by a dozen or so votes so we need your help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
http://www.escapistmagazine.com/tournament/index
CONGRATS ALL! We Did It! Turbine Voted Dev of the Year for the 2nd Straight Year!
OK, another thread has got me thinking here.... Over the past several months, many of the gaming sites have picked up intrest in DDO again. THis is great, However, it still seems to be on the backburner in terms of Features, Reviews, and Headlines.
I'd love to see this thread stickied, but if not, I ask that we keep it active. If there are any sites that you visit that have a DDO section, or SHOULD have a ddo Section, Post em here and I'l add it to the OP. Bookmark the thread... Take 5 minutes out of your day to hit the Links in the OP. I dont think this is a lot to ask. ANd this is probobly the Number one way we can help TUrbine and Help this Fantastic game. THe More exposure, the more subscriptions, the more developement. Dont forget to hit an add or 2 as well... Often the click through count for much more than just hitting the site itself. The Adds pay the bills!
Often people think these sites are financed by the gaming companies themselves... That they are buying feature articles..
THATS NOT THE WAY IT WORKS.
Of course, I'm sure there are some unscroupulous sites out there that are more than happy to take some money under the table.... Something tells me Turbine isnt a company thats gonna be bribing folks though. Activity Rules. If a MMO Site sees that they are getting ust a handful of hits a day on a topic, they dont pay it much attention. but if it starts getting a lot of hits, they will start providing more and more info and articles on that game... HITS Pay the bills for these sites!
Thank you for your continued support on this folks.
We CAN help here.....
THe Following are Sites that I would ask that you Hit [U]Every Day[/I] Go ahead and bookmark this thread. You dont necessarily need to sign up for an account at these sites, Usualy, just browing through the DDO Offerices counts regardless of whether or not your logged in. However, Creating an account and posting a message, Review or comment on the game is much beter for us!
MMORPG.com
mmorpg has done some wonderful write-ups over the past few months, they have a solid DDO area of their site, but their Review is from Launch still!
Lets show mmorpg that DDO is a Viable product to brng Hits to their site! THis is key to getting more coverage and thus, more new subscriptions.
http://www.mmorpg.com/gamelist.cfm/gameId/163/setView/overview
Just recently, MMORPG did a "Re-Review" of DDO.
http://www.mmorpg.com/gamelist.cfm/game/163/view/reviews/loadReview/72
Thanks to US, the reviewer was quickly revealed to be someone who had never played the game before this "Re-Review". The Managing editor of mmorpg jumped into the discussion and apologized and has promised a REAL re-review coming soon. Excellent job folks!
http://www.mmorpg.com/discussion2.cfm/thread/224246
Lets see if we can get DDO Back into their Top 10 most active list. They track Unique Hits so Slamming it from the same PC wont do any good. We need a Community effort here. Hit it right now after reading this post, Just browse and see what they have on our fine game.
MMORPG Ratings at launch of Campaign. Not in Top 10, User game ratting of 7.55
RPGRANK:
RPGRank is a Rating site for RPG's. CUrrently DDO Sits a 53. THis has never been a strong site for DDO, but the fact that we are just outside the top 50 is Impressive.
http://www.rpgrank.com/online-rpg-games-110.html
THeir DDO Forum is Comletely Empty right now too. ANd forum activity helps the ranking.
http://forum.rpgrank.com/forum-41-1.html
RPGRank DDO Rank at Start of Campaign: 53
I think with very little effort we can move DDO into the TOp 10 on this pretty popular site.
Massivley.com:
Of course we cant forget our Friends at Massively. Excellent COverage for our game, but finding the DDO part of their site is rather Painful at the moment... WHen you click their "GAMES" Tab, it seems to provide the curent Top 10... SECOND LIFE Is inthis list.. Are you Kidding me? DDO Isnt as Popular as SECOND LIFE? Gimme a break. Lets Change that!
http://www.massively.com/category/dungeons-and-dragons-online/
DDO Currently not listed in Masivly Top 10
ONRPG:
Currently Very Little DDO, Or turbine at all for that matter, Exposure on this good looking site.
http://www.onrpg.com/MMO/Dungeons--Dragons-Online-Stormreach
WarCry:
Warcry is a very popular MMO Site, DDO Is indeed linked from their home page, but again, as is the case with many sites, DDO is rarely featured and talked about.
http://ddo.warcry.com/
IGN:
ign is HUGE. So huge that it snot likely anything we could do would mean much to them. However, Most of us probobly already have an account and the User reviews of this game on this site are VERY OLD. No reason we cant start adding our own reviews to help people who stumble upon DDO VIA IGN. the User Rating is very bad right now... Take a few minutes and write a review... Let people know that the game has evolved greatly since launch!
http://pc.ign.com/objects/619/619908.html
User Rating at IGN at Start of Campaign: 6.3
I shouldnt have to ask this, but I wil just in case....
PLEASE be respectful on these sites THis is a campaign to help get DDO back into Premier status.
We can do this.
Thanks for your Time,
Impaqt
(I'll probobly look at the various sites a couple times a week or so and post a similar message to this for each one. If anyone else would liek to assist me inthis, that would be great. ALl I'm asking for is someone to visit the various gaming sites, Link the DDO Specific Page, and provide a Contact link so we can say, Hey, we love this game and would like you to give it another shot". PM Me if you wish to help.)
EDIT: I have expanded this section to incluse many gaming sites that need our help to push DDO into a Featured Posistion.
Other Rewiews and Review Sites to take a look at:
Game Daily
http://www.gamedaily.com/games/dungeons-and-dragons-online-stormreach/pc/game-main/list/
Found this nice review today. Looks like GameDaily is associated with AOL by the links and advertising. No User reviews listed...

Hmm, I wonder if remoting into my direct report's PC's will register as unique or if it will all fall under the same IP?

MMORPG.COM gets' a lot of traffic. The best thing that can be done is having more players who are capable of sharing the pro's and con's about DDO at the site. That Site has potential for being a great avenue of advertisement for DDO; look what it's done for EVE Online!

This reminds me of something else that I've mentioned recently, but figure I'd mention it again because a lot of players didn't seem to know this, and in the spirit of the thread:
The referral program is not limited to only 5 referrals. Once your invitees have opened their invitations, you get a fresh supply of invitations you can use again! When we turned the referrals back on, I got a lot of PMs from players saying "oh I used mine up already", and that's not the case, so don't be shy about sending out referrals :) the more the merrier!

I'd suspect if their sys admin is worth anything, he/she realize what was going on here. Hundreds or thousands of people all of a sudden expressing interest, despite the lack of advertising? That may have worked 10 years ago.
That said, I did my part anyways. Doesn't hurt to at least give it a whirl.

I have been posting on MMORPG for a while and promoting DDO but you know the people who end up reading it are the ones who already play or have played and checking to see if the game has become more to their liking. I clicked on it twice today from 2 diff computers (work/home) so I did my part, but I have no complaint with mmorpg' reviews they do have updates on DDO but they don't get as much of splash as bigger titled games. Just check the coverage of Lotro.

First link would not load for me, but all others I hit.
Something i noticed...
All the other games are considered new games when they get updates, I.E. WoW has like 6 games listed, even though its only one game.
Why wouldn't they do that for us? just because its not a new disc set everyone has to buy, doesn't mean its not a new game.
This needs to be Addressed!
That would clear out all the bad reviews we have listed, and start clean over and fresh!

I've been a member for years at those sites, but I'm actively increasing my rank at mmorpg.com so I can get posting privilleges and possibly write some blurbs/blogs or get some sort of adminship for DDO over there.
I haven't been hitting the other sites yet! I didn't there were more links! Have you organized all the links to the top post yet? If it can be streamlined in the initial post, Impaqt, we'll have more participation by DDOers.
And yeah, pick a site and dedicate your efforts there to do more than click & hits. Mine is mmorpg.com (although I have some ins at Warcry if we need more coverage). Anyway, going for some mmorpg rep as Kistilan.

I'm sure someone's got something to say, go there and say it. After a few posts there'll likely be someone asking questions about how bad they thought the game was. Subject is clear enough: Hirelings.
yes, i've noticed
I try to call it like I see it. DDO is a pretty damned good game that I believe is taken for granted, especially by those of us who play a lot more then others. Regardless of it's flaws we're all here for the things the good folks at Turbine have done right with the game.
The best thing about posting at mmorpg is discussing the changes with people who didn't like the game and came back to improvements they thought weren't possible.

They are wrong. :( I was accepted into Alpha in July 05 (maybe August, but definitely before September). Maybe he meant he was an Alpha-Select. Open Beta maybe was in Nov 05 (sounds correct, although I recall it definitely being open in December).

I threw it up there for you. ^_^
Also, I noticed they can't attack those screenshots anymore & are going after "content" and "strayed from original D&D" as their main arguements for not playing.
I think you won the battle over graphics. Now to win a war that doesn't even stop on these forums. :D Content & DDO vs PnP, Round 1,879.
PS: There is a video by ELH (HolyAlliance) that could squash their content woes. It's pretty much all high-end mucking about done really well. It's also one of the best fan-made high level music vids ever done for DDO.

In that case, need someone who has gotten a good bit of video footage to go over there and post away with as many videos of everything pretty much from mod 4 to current...

IGN's review of DDO is terribly outdated. He mentions that DDO has no crafting, auction house, PVP or random monsters to mess with while waiting for groups. He also claims that a casual player could finish the game in a 1-month trial account, with no "faction grinding" to push the character forward.
I don't know how to get them to re-review the game, but I imagine they would find that many, if not all, of their complaints have been addressed. If anyone has any ideas, let's see what we can do to get a re-review!

IGN is unlikely to re-review. Its up to us to post user reviews point out how outdated the IGN Review is.

I note we have abruptly soared to the top of the "Most popular in the last 24-hours" list on MMORPG: http://www.mmorpg.com/ with 7100 unique hits.
Kinda weird, since there's no headlines for DDO or anything else right now. Which one of us secretly runs a bot network?

WOW! If someone did that, *amazing* but very very risque (and illegal). DOS-based anything is bad mojo.
I'm at mmorpg.com right now and we aren't showing 7100 unique hits. Seems like someone decided it was a bot and removed.

Go to the homepage, look for the ranking on the right and switch to "Most Popular" - we're at 11,344 Unique Hits now.

lmao!!!! 14,000 hits!!!
I now understand why I didn't see it on the list -- I'm not used to it being in the #1 position (and therefore didn't realize we had our awesome logo there!)
GOOD JOB! (but this definitely was a DOS piggyback bot thing - no way we all did that? Or did everyone have time 'cuz the Shroud was down???)

Yeah, but the guy that is bot spamming, is user rating us into oblivion. In the last 15 minutes, we've gone from 7.65 user rating to 6.25...

Live @ MMORPG.COM, Daily Popularity Contest: :)
#9 Dungeons & Dragons Online (http://www.mmorpg.com/gamelist.cfm/game/163) 1,775 Hits
Live @ MMORPG.COM, Weekly Popularity Contest: :D
#5 Dungeons & Dragons Online (http://www.mmorpg.com/gamelist.cfm/game/163) 30,325 Hits
Get those votes in at MMORPG.COM! We're in the running for taking #1 Weekly, then Monthly!
PS: Get your activity up to 5/100 or better so you can post a rating and help bring our user rating back up -- the SPAM BOT that got us the hits also deflated the user rating as Stormanne pointed out. If you love your DDO, help rock the votes. (It takes about 2 days of logging in and out of mmorpg.com every 4-6 hours to get 5/100 on activity).

Finally was able to get my rating above 5 and could rate the game. I gave it all 10 except for performance/Lag. I love the game but not enough to look past the lag problems we've been having lately.

Nice job all -- keep hitting those sites! We can take most-popular #1 right now if we wanted for the day (they just reset on mmorpg.com & the counts are only in the 100-300 range).

Sheer Awesomeness!
If you didn't catch my post on the MMORPG (http://www.mmorpg.com) Popularity Status, we were as follows once Ms Stephanie Morrow's DDO Early Game Review (http://www.mmorpg.com/gamelist.cfm/game/163/view/reviews/load/72/DDO-ReReview.html) posted:
Day 1: #1 Most Popular That Day
Day 2: #3 Most Popular That Day
Day 3: #3 Most Popular That Day
Day 4: Not in the Top 10 for the Day, but #8 Most Popular This Week.*
* World of Warcraft and Age of Conan are not even listed in the Top 10 this week. Current "most popular" include the titles Eve Online, Darkfall, Star Wars: The Old Republic, Warhammer: AoR & Atlantica Online.

Until Mod9 actually debuts (and is evaluated at large), I'm guessing this thread is in stasis.
Turbine, you can have our support if you reveal vectors. Things like possibly cancelling new races really makes Helping Turbine Make DDO Better seem trite and disheartening.
I commend you Impaqt on this thread and I hope Turbine can raise a beacon of hope in the near future and give us information on where DDO is headed in the next 2 years -- else, helping Turbine will be a cause that many will abandon.
