Default Ball Lightning vs Chain Lightning ?

I like having at least one spell of each element on my wizard, and for now my electrical choice is Ball Lightning. However, now that I reached lvl 16, Chain Lightning is starting to deal more damage, and I'm considering using it instead.

The problem is that I remember having a hard time making Chain Lightning work effectively when I tried it some time ago, missing mobs that I could swear would be affected. And on the other hand, Ball Lightning is so reliable, easy to use, and has a pretty large radius as well.

So, I curious to know what you guys prefer to use? And also, is there any trick to make Chain Lightning completely reliable?

    Both are good, and similar.

For me it comes down to which other spells I need/want at their level.

Both pretty much do the same dmg but the difference I found is, much liek any other ball somtimes you just have these odd no hit times. Like the ball flew off in the distance when you clearly saw it hit the ground at ur feet. Chain lightning actively seeks out a living thing, then other things around it.

Though if im whipping lightning I spam both one after the other. Their really isn't any other lightning aoe spells.
