Ok - Been messing with this a bit and I wanted to make an Undead hunter Pladin like I played in BG2, but with the newer rules set - I feel a little lost. SO, my thought is to concentrate on eliminating the undead with Paladin saves, cleric abilities, and possibly ranger favored enemy... SO

Thinking Human or maybe Elf, but I like having no penalty to CON and figure I will prolly be wearing Heavy armor anyway so no reason to pump dex any higher than to get dodge and a small AC boost. I would like to go Dwarf, because I have always loved dwarves, but the chr penaty for paladin and cleric doing the undead thing sucks!

Pal (3)/Cleric(x)/Rang(1-2?) - and going the direction of undead killing tank/alt-tank with casting/healing ability and turning, base stats of
STR 14
DEX 13
Con 10
Int 8
Wis 15
Chr 14

So - what I guess I am asking, is, Is the 1 or 2 levels of ranger going to be worth it, or should I stick with pal/clc? What order should I take the levels? What feats and enhancements would add a lot to this type of char.

Comments and suggestions please - I just got the character planner downloaded, so I thought I might play with that to just see what pops up at different levels, but would love some feedback from people who have built before. Thanks!

Unless you're going to two-weapon fight or use a lot of bows, just get one level of ranger for the favored enemy. And probably take it first, as it gets the most skill points out of those 3 classes.
Keep in mind, if you want your turning to do the most against undead, you are probably better off with the divine light enhancements, which do damage to undead instead of turning them. This being because of inflated monsters, it's near impossible to turn anything past level 5 or 6- especially since you'll be multiclassed.
Also, keep in mind with a Rng1/Pal3/Cleric8 you won't be getting Raise Dead and as such make sure people realize you are not a main healer. As well, your BAB will be 2 points lower (may or may not make a big difference) and your HP will be less than most tanks / fighters.
A lot of paladins take proficiency with khopesh or bastard sword- you might want to skip that if you're going to spend feats on meta-magics for healing. Also, you won't be able to use tower shields without a feat as well.
If you take toughness, theres a pally enhancement that will give it a slight boost. There are also some new pally/cleric enhancements coming out in 4.1, Samera put up a thread about it, you might want to take a look. Some of them have some NICE abilities.
Dwarves have a cleric/paladin sp enhancement I believe, and its pretty easy to get a +4 CHR cape nowadays. +4 CHR on anything else is harder to find.
That's my input.

Thanks for the input!

What level cleric do you have to be to get Raise dead? with the new level cap going up that will help yes? ANd is the favored enemy from ranger worth taking a lvl of it, or could I get the same benefit from another lvl of cleric or pal?

Need 5th level spells so 9th cleric. and you would also get bow str from your ranger levels so might be worth it. and now that the level cap is 14 you can do fine and have fun

For this build also, is it more important to put lvl up stat points into CHR or WIS? And is there any skills I am really missing oput on by having a 8 INT?
