Part I
Are you sure this thing is safe?” Zully asked as he tested the first board with one foot. Enggalf gestured toward the structure, “How should I know. Look at those pylons! They are all broken off and only half of them have magic holding it up.” “Oh I have trust in the magic, just not the wood its holding. And I can’t swim.” Zully said. “Nor can I.” Enggalf replied. “Least you won’t sink like a rust monster in that robe.” From above a door slammed at the Leaky dingy, and a long mustached dwarf came running down the steps, up the dock and past the Sorcerer and the Cleric. They watched as the dwarf turned and ran up the ramp. “See perfectly safe.” Enggalf said as he turned his attention back to the dock. “Lets go.”

A bard strumming a lazy tune could be heard over the chatter of voices in the dingy. The wood of the tavern creaked and groaned like the hold of a ship. A crab scurried out the door as Zully and Enggalf scanned the room at the open door “kosedadamdore, Yer lettin da crabs out!” Yelled a drunk in the corner. “Ahem, Oh sorry.” Enggalf said as he closed the door.

“Do you see him?” Zully asked “How do I know? I don’t know who Carberent d’Deneith is.” Enggalf retorted. “This is where guard Healfdene said we could find him. WHOA did this thing just move!” Zully said as he placed a hand on Enggalf’s shoulder. “Pipe down sailor or I’ll call Hilda on ya.” Enggalf chuckled. Zully shook a finger at the cleric “Hay, that was not funny. She had a beard and never speak of that again or I will use this on you.” “Alright Alright!” Enggalf laughed “That is most likely him talking to the elf at the bar. I will do the talking.”

“Carberent d’Deneith?” The man glanced at Enggalf and gestured ‘one moment’. “ … Because the last thing we need is for the kobolds to find a greater purpose in their miserable lives. Excuse me Mistress Ahura while I see what this fella needs. What can I do for you?” Carberent Asked. “I am Enggalf and this is Zully. Is there any way we can assist House Deneith?” “Well met, Enggalf and Zully. House Deneith has been hired to assist exporter Kenebrooke with a slight problem.” Enggalf crossed his arms over his chest and asked,” “What kind of problem?” “One of his shipments contains sensitive materials that have drawn the attention of an unsavory crew of robbers. We need someone to go to the exporter’s home and drive the brigands off.” Where must we go?” “To Kenebrook’s basement, not far from here. Will you do this favor for House Deneith?” Carberent inquired. Enggalf glanced at Zully, and after a nod from Zully he said, “We will.”

Part II
“This looks like the place, Kenebrook’s basement.” Enggalf said. “Nothing in this room looks valuable enough to bother protecting.” Zully observed out loud. “Lets check the door over there.” Pointed Enggalf. A small torch lit the southeast corner of the room, and a single everbright lantern hung in the northwest corner. The other corners were unlit and further darkened by the shadows cast by crates stacked high in the room “Too dark in the corners for me to see but, not to be smelled” said Zully, sprinkling a pinch of sand onto the stone tiled floor. “wyyaad offeen” Zullys hands radiated a blew light that he weaved in a effortless rising pattern that he carried up over his head. A green and violet circle with four green globes at opposing poles appeared on the floor. A malicious dog materialized in the circle, gave a vicious growl and leapt at an unseen assailant in a dark corner. “Good idea” Said Enggalf as he summoned a celestial dog as well. Enggalfs dog darted for the other corner. “Quickly Lets move under the everbright lantern!”

Three brigands leapt from the darkness, darted past the dogs and attacked Zully. “Pummel the on in robes, e’s a mage!” One of the brigands commanded. Zully swung his mace at the same time that Enggalf bellowed a command and the brigand went down as Zullys mace swished past the falling brigand. Zully recovered from his missed strike and smashed down the end of his weapon onto the fallen enemy. The blow struck true with a satisfying crack of bone as the dogs finished the brigand off. His back turned to them the other two brigands landed solid blows with their daggers in his leg and side. Zully stumbled and cursed as the brigand withdrew the bloody dagger from his side. Enggalf threw his elbows back in unison and thrust forward with body and arms as if willing the air itself to compress. The air around the two brigands exploded with the soundburst as shockwaves of dust expanded out like ripples on water. The criminals stopped where they stood, heads hanging and stunned from the effect.

Zully braced himself on one of the crates as Enggalf rushed to his aid. The dragon mark on Enggalf neck glowed as he pressed his hand over the wound. Zully grunted with pain as the power of the silver flame mended his flesh. “Thanks!” “No problem, now quickly give me that leg.” Enggalf’s casting was interrupted as the two stunned brigands woke from their daze and attacked Enggalf, their daggers glancing of his full plate armor. Zully scrambled up the crates to escape as two more thieves converged on them.

Part III

Enggalf lunged out burying half of his dagger in the chest of unarmored brigand. The brigand staggered back into his approaching comrade, the surprise plain on his face. “Bloody Vol, the bloak stabbed me!” His arm still out stretched, body over extended and top heavy Enggalf tipped toward the ground. In a split second before hitting the ground, Enggalf commanded the catcher to the ground, tucked his shield and slammed his left shoulder onto the ground. His teeth jarred and a bone snapped in his arm. He fought the urge to black out from the fire in his shoulder and arm. He rolled onto his back to see the brigand sitting on the ground, his head and body bent forward as if an earth elemental was pushing him to the ground. His companion, no longer having a crutch, fell backwards, his head making the sound of kobold egg as it struck the floor.

Zully winced as he scrambled unto the top box. He turned to see Enggalf strike a blow, land hard on his shoulder and send the two thieves to the ground. A growl and a yelp reminded him of the dogs. The dogs had fallen upon the newcomers giving him a moment of respite. “TaKinggggg” Zully dodged the unseen dagger knowing, full well, he was too late. As the thrown dagger clattered to the floor, he chanted,” Vos somnussss ---- Vos somnussss ---- Vos somnussss ---- Vos somnussss”. Waving his hand before his face, palm out, with each idiom spoken. On the fourth pass, he saw the glint of steel as another dagger tumbled at him. On his last utterance, the dagger buried itself hilt deep in his shoulder. Zully stumbled back against the wall, ungracefully sliding down it to take seat with a chuckle.

Enggalf rolled over onto his back at the sound of the wizards laughter. “FLAME TAKE YOU! What are you laughing about wizard?” “You, rolling about on the floor in all that armor. Care to lend me you hand while I have the brigands hypnotized? I’m starting to feel like a pin cushion.” Enggalf looked to his shield arm. He could not see the damage under his armor, but he knew it was there. He tried to move his arm only to receive another shockwave of pain throughout his body. “I think my arm is broken, I need to…” “STOP FLAPPING YOUR JAWS and just do it” Enggalf dropped his mace to his side and put his hand on his chest. The dragon marks radiance was dimmer this time, as Enggalf healed himself. “I am nearing the end of my spells for the day. Pull that dagger out and come help me up and I will heal you.”
