Part I
Are you sure this thing is safe?” Zully asked as he tested the first board with one foot. Enggalf gestured toward the structure, “How should I know. Look at those pylons! They are all broken off and only half of them have magic holding it up.” “Oh I have trust in the magic, just not the wood its holding. And I can’t swim.” Zully said. “Nor can I.” Enggalf replied. “Least you won’t sink like a rust monster in that robe.” From above a door slammed at the Leaky dingy, and a long mustached dwarf came running down the steps, up the dock and past the Sorcerer and the Cleric. They watched as the dwarf turned and ran up the ramp. “See perfectly safe.” Enggalf said as he turned his attention back to the dock. “Lets go.”
A bard strumming a lazy tune could be heard over the chatter of voices in the dingy. The wood of the tavern creaked and groaned like the hold of a ship. A crab scurried out the door as Zully and Enggalf scanned the room at the open door “kosedadamdore, Yer lettin da crabs out!” Yelled a drunk in the corner. “Ahem, Oh sorry.” Enggalf said as he closed the door.
“Do you see him?” Zully asked “How do I know? I don’t know who Carberent d’Deneith is.” Enggalf retorted. “This is where guard Healfdene said we could find him. WHOA did this thing just move!” Zully said as he placed a hand on Enggalf’s shoulder. “Pipe down sailor or I’ll call Hilda on ya.” Enggalf chuckled. Zully shook a finger at the cleric “Hay, that was not funny. She had a beard and never speak of that again or I will use this on you.” “Alright Alright!” Enggalf laughed “That is most likely him talking to the elf at the bar. I will do the talking.”
“Carberent d’Deneith?” The man glanced at Enggalf and gestured ‘one moment’. “ … Because the last thing we need is for the kobolds to find a greater purpose in their miserable lives. Excuse me Mistress Ahura while I see what this fella needs. What can I do for you?” Carberent Asked. “I am Enggalf and this is Zully. Is there any way we can assist House Deneith?” “Well met, Enggalf and Zully. House Deneith has been hired to assist exporter Kenebrooke with a slight problem.” Enggalf crossed his arms over his chest and asked,” “What kind of problem?” “One of his shipments contains sensitive materials that have drawn the attention of an unsavory crew of robbers. We need someone to go to the exporter’s home and drive the brigands off.” Where must we go?” “To Kenebrook’s basement, not far from here. Will you do this favor for House Deneith?” Carberent inquired. Enggalf glanced at Zully, and after a nod from Zully he said, “We will.”
