Hey All.

I have created a new web comic "Forgotten Tales!" featuring a tongue in cheek look at life in Stormreach.

I have released the first three episodes today to celebrate its launch and plan on publishing a new episode each Monday.

You can catch these spine tingling sense shattering adventures on the Forgotten Legion Web site www.forgottenlegion.net and click on "Forgotten Tales" in the main menu.

Ask a hundred people and you will get a hundred reason why they are in Stormreach, Beula's motivations are just a little more base than most. Or maybe she's just a little more honest about them than most...

Don't get too down on Beula though...

She maybe rough around the edges, and maybe a little gristly too, but deep down she does have a heart...

I still have no idea what my readership is if any, but I really did enjoy meeting you at the DDO party. I just wish we could have had more time to just sit down a minute and talk. As it was it was so cramped in there you had to leave if you wanted to change your mind.

I regret not being able to take better advantage at the party and actually sit down and talk with everyone who attended more. Crowds are just not my scene and I started to get a bit claustrophobic for a while there.

Hey Hey Everyone!

Wow…

It’s been 1 whole year of the Forgotten Tales. I still can’t believe the Tales lasted so long. When I first started, my original idea (actually, it was my only idea at the time) was the following skit…

Fighter: My Warforged has No nose…
Cleric: How does he smell?
Fighter: Awful!

Yea…that’s what I had…There was no Beula, Lucky Jones, Crazz, Plow, Zeroz, Sorbet, Mannon or Zyed. Just the above old, old vaudeville joke. Hey! I didn’t say it was any good…just that I had something…

Then the idea stuck in my craw for a couple of weeks, and then I noticed that City of Heroes was having a Comic Contest and linked to the Comicbookcreater software they wanted their contestants to use… (The Forgotten Legion actually plays many MMO’s including City of Heroes and City of Villains) So I downloaded it and played with it for a bit and liked what it could do. It was by no means the alpha/omega of story telling software, but it was good enough for what I needed to see if the tales could even be done…

So one day when I should have been working, and feeling especially poor since most of my guys were broke, I took an old toon I had named “Beula” (Fighter Level 7) and put all my pain into being broke and threw it against House Kundarak who had the nerve to charge me for more bank space…


Fascinating Forgotten Tales Fact: Beula was actually going to be deleted as a failed Intimi tank build. But After I shot the first three tales I couldn’t get rid of her and so she escaped deletion. I always knew Beula was a survivor.

And then I did one about those clowns the Coin lords doing the same things too…

So that was the start, it took 2 hours of shooting, and 4 DAYS of piecing the first two comic strips together… Things always go slow at the beginning…but I was hopeful that with enough repetition that it would go faster after a while.

So a couple of days later I had the idea for Strip 3 and 4…and from there the rest was history… It’s been an awesome ride. What originally started out as a traffic building and recruitment tool for the guild soon had a life of its own.

It was tough in the beginning…I was constantly being asked “How many stories in Stormreach were there??” “I dunno” I said, “but I guess we’ll see how many we can find”. And sometimes the scripts wrote themselves…and sometimes I was dry for months. And then I would get an idea! Write it, and then throw it away…, and then I’d write something else! And then I’d throw that away…then I’d bring back the original idea and re-write that! And then I throw it away again. By the time anyone actually sees a forgotten tales, that thing has had I don’t know how many re-writes and edits, It makes me cringe sometimes…

And then there are the stories that I have written that I could NEVER do because of the limited Emotes in DDO. I am NOT complaining…just saying that’s all…those are the ones that usually go through the most re-writes, shaping, shaping, shaping until I might get something that makes sense.

For example….

Beula Fighting Slime with a chair Leg… ya…now you see…

Anyways, I just wanted to take a second and thank EVERYONE who takes the time to check out and read the tales. You guys are MY Heroes. It’s you guys that make me happy after I post on Fridays and makes me want to keep going. Thank you all. Thank you all from the bottom of my heart. And a deep thank you to everyone in the Forgotten Legion for putting up with my constant re-shoot requests. You guys are just the best; I am, indeed, a lucky man to have friends such as yourselves.


Fascinating Forgotten Tales Fact - Favourite Legionnaire: Vernia. Ever see Vernia in ANY of the Forgotten Tales? NO? That’s because Vernia hides in Plain sight and you never notice him. When our Guildy Crazz left the game and left us with 3 panels unshot for “I have a Dream” it was Vernia who ate up a character slot and made a Crazz stunt double so I could complete the shoot. Both Zyed and Beula are my characters, so how to shoot a tales with both of them in it? It was Vernia who made a Beula Stunt Double (some 10 or 11 times until I was happy with the results) so we could make that happen. I am sorry Vernia that none of your characters have ever made it into the tales. I will fix this in the near future…just as soon as I can think of something suitably spectacular.

You know it’s funny, I still get people coming up to me and give me story ideas…these are actual story Ideas I’ve received over the year…(I swear)

There’s a Dwarf and an Elf and they’re fighting
There’s a cleric pulling bad loot while the fighters are pulling awesome loot
Potholes in the Harbour
Fake Water (??!!?)
Balconies in the Marketplace too small
A Troll is crying and a Halfling cheers it up
And my personal Favourite: My Ears Hurt

Fascinating Forgotten Tales Fact - Biggest Daydream so Far: So yesterday I was working at home when I got a Call, Hello? This is xxxx xxxxxxxx. I work for properties and new acquisitions for Warner Brothers in Santa Clara California. And we’ve spotted your Forgotten Tales on your web site and would like to know if you would be interested in coming down and seeing us to discuss the possibility of us working in some form to produce your comic strip for film…

As for the rest of you. I hope this year is another year filled with laughs and even more absurdity from the whole cast and crew of the Forgotten Tales. Thanks for coming along for the ride; I hope you continue to view the tales as a trip worth taking. To celebrate, I am releasing a double issue of the tales this week. We have a VERY SPECIAL Issue of the Forgotten Tales this week! A New Forgotten Tales Movie: Beaten to the Punch (line)!!

With Turbine’s April Fools joke about “Pimp my Warforged”, we here at the Forgotten Tales were faced with a dilemma, unbeknownst to Turbine, there were already 2 weeks of the Forgotten Tales already drawn up to deal just with this topic but not yet released. Forced with having to shred these issues for fear of cries of plagiarism, We hastily sent off a letter to Tolero thanking her for scooping us here at the tales and forcing us to scrap already completed work. To their credit, the fine people at Turbine were sympathetic to our plight and agreed to make appearances in the next Forgotten Tales Movie! Naturally, we could not let such a once-in-a-lifetime offer pass us by and to we took them up on their generous offer and produced this week’s very special issue of the Forgotten Tales: Beaten to the Punch (Line) with Special guest stars Tolero and Quarion!!! I like this storyline! Sooooo... who is the Paladin that she wants to smite the lusty evil out of her? So you know how hard it is to get a paladin to relent? She should give up, it will NEVER happen! Also What's wrong with Deathdealer McKillyyouall? I liken that to my Rogue: Snappy McFingers, or all the Monk names I have seen out there lately.

I was just poking fun at those in the game that pick such over the TOP names trying to show how much their character is a killing machine that it becomes comical.

Turbine is guilty of this to some degree, too. In the House K bank there is a guard there named "Godsmasher" errrr....yea...ummm...ok...

Like in COH when you come across Lord Darkity Dark Darkness MASTER OF THE DARK SLASH YOU TO DETH! (I think they ran out of characters at this point)

Anyway, It's not a run at clever names, it's a poke at stupid names...
