Power Attack

A question for high level barbarians...

How often do you have Power Attack turned on in the high level elite dungeons? Is this a feat that you use a lot at the higher levels?

Any DPS 2-handed barbarian (which are rather common) will answer something like "about 98% of the time".

Lol, actually ... I never take it off, for any quest.

w/ the new enhancment ... I have a low +28 to hit ... but its 1d12 for GA and +6 For elemantal (Fire/Frost/Shock etc) and then +42 to my Dmg Rolls, Crit 18-20 x3. So my low crits are in the 140 ranges.

I always have it on. Is prolly my favourite enchan.
Only time i dont use it is when using my 2 handed PARA falchion, because i am more interested in hitting, and cc barb way =)

I hate missing. That is what I seem to do most of the time with it on on Elite quests. :eek:

To me it depends on the weapon you are carrying around. If you want to carry that +1 Icyburst greatax of Pure Good then you might not want to have Power Attack turned on. Now if you are carrying SoS which is +5 then it won't bother you much to have it turned on. Personally I carried around a +3 Icyburst and Flameburst greatax around for a long time before SoS and I found no problems with haveing Power Attack on.

If I can't hit something with PA on I Rage. I never turn off PA. Another 12 Strength will solve your Attack Bonus problem.

I think I turned it off once for a elite elder fire elemental, those have like 50 AC.

Other then that, 100% - and my power attack is -8 to hit.

Seriously tho, I swap it on/off a fair bit. I have it hotkeyed for quick access. Might turn it off if a mob heavily debuffs me, or Im trying to hit a very high AC mob thats running around. But yea like tihocan said, thats probably a situation that occurs 2% of the time.

Tho I PvP more often now, and I usualy have to take it off for mega high AC paladins, so it might be 97% for me lately.

I turn it off when I am attempting to do something that requires both a crit and a crit confirmation in order to take effect.

In other words, I have PA on pretty much all the time, the only exception being when I am attempting to Vorpal (since your to-hit bonus is added to confirm a crit). So, you know, only in one room of PoP.

If I switch to a one-handed weapon, I'll take Power Attack off. Otherwise, I leave it on all the time unless I just can't seem to hit a monster, and my Barbarian has a low Strength at only 30. I can still maintain about a +28 or so to hit, which is enough for most everything that you fight.

Well, since hitting 14 I now leave power attack on most of the time, especially when wielding the two handers.

I do however switch it off for certain high ac mobs or pallies.

Like a few others have said in this old ass post I use my PA most of the time, 99.5% of the time. I mostly use either a +4 True Chaos greataxe of Pure Good or a +4 Frost greataxe of righteousness. So they help out alot with the -8 to-hit. Double raging and GH on while wielding them...I never find myself missing more than I think I should.

Only time Ive taken it off recently is when Im trying to vorpal the guys that pop above Maze of Madness with my returning throwing axe.
