Well I finally sat down and explored the entire Menechtarun desert. I have been working on creating a reference map for sometime of this gigantic encounter area and thought I'd share my work with the community.
This map represents 10 hours of exploring and many more of stitching it together and adding labels. I'll improve it with time, fixing the impurities, checking the accuracy of the information and adding area labels for easy navigation.
If you find this useful or have suggestions for improvements please let me know. I appreciate the feedback.
PLEASE NOTE: If you use my map and modify it or repost it somewhere else, please let me know so I can add your changes to my map. I'd like to make this map as detailed as possible. Thanks.
Enjoy!
UPDATE: I have moved this map to my Map Thread 'Dorim's Map Shop'. Hopefully I can add more wonderful maps for you wonderful people.

I've yet to go out there and had no idea it was that huge! Now I know what my friend was going through when he got lost in there. It was funny because he was /tell me every time he died! He was soooo mad. I couldn't stop laughing though!

Has anyone posted maps for some of the other areas in the game?
Like Tangelroot Gorge?

Here is a similar map that LordDamax, Karkotrunk, and DarkSchneider mapped out and photo shopped together. still have to add the "Raid the Vulkorim" (sp?) name to it ...but other than that it's complete with names of quests as well as locations of possible chests.

Both are nice maps, thanks twice. :) The second one's missing at least the one chest just NE of Maraud the Mines, though. Least I think there's one there :)

Airidil, on behalf of the Dragons I would like to say Thank you. this map will be useful in teaching new members how to maneuver around the desert.
We appreciate the hard work put into it and admire you for taking the time and initiative. Way to go.:)

Awww thanks all. My wife says you are all giving me a big head. :D
I've updated the map with known chest locations with 12/14 confirmed personally. Thanks to Lunacii you have a nice title in Papyrus font. She has the best ideas. I also cleaned up some shadowed map on the lower left.
All that's left are the little shadows on the map that drive me crazy as a perfectionist and the exact placement of area indicators. Still I think it's pretty fab. :p
I've had a few requests to make more maps so perhaps one day I will. If you have requests send me a PM and Dorim 'the Map Maker' Stronghold will get to it.
If you need a guide through the desert I may be available from time to time. I know the paths of least resistance, although I killed someone once...The tombs all look alike after a while. Sorry bro. :o
Remember you may have to empty your browser cache if you've seen it before. Cheers all!

After all my hard work Turbine decides to lift the FOW. Sigh. At least I now have all the shadow mistakes revealed for me without risking my neck again. :D
So I have made a small update using the new map revealed today. Unfortunately whoever made the in-game map made mistakes on the 'Points of Interest' names for the desert. I have kept the correct names. :p
Cheers all. I don't expect to be many more updates. I think I'll print this one on the plotter at work tomorrow and post it on my wall.

:) I find it useful still. I don't have a clue where I am going whenever I was in the desert. I just run with the crowd. Now, I know where the shrines/chests are and the instances.
Give the man a hearty handshake and slap on the back for a job well done.:)
One suggestin is to draw the path of least resistence to the various instances/chests.

Looks great, accurate, and love the chest locations. Way better map than the one my guild was using. Thankx!

Yeah, it's still useful, helped me get a group to Maraud the Mines, I'd only done once, and the rest either forgot or hadn't done themselves. Good work!

ya great map, but there is one chest missing i have personaly seen spawn, and its to the left of Purge the Fallen Shrine. If your going to the Fallen Shrine stop before you drop down into the valley and go across the bridge and theres a small path that leads up to a Windlasher Hut right before you get to Chamber of Rahmat. If there is a named there the chest will spawn inside the little hut. Other than that it looks perfect to me, great job again!

Thanks Smokes. I've added the chest and uploaded the new map. Again clear your browser cache to see the update since I keep the same name for the map to keep my photobucket clean.

Great maps.
Both maps are missing a chest directly to the west of spawn of vulkoor. You can reach it by jumping from rock to rock from a high poistion near the chest spawn and around above the quest enterance. (aka east wall counter clockwise)
The location is sort of orange colored now that they have lifted the fog of war.

There is a rare random chest in the cubby to the left of "Spawn the Vulkoor". I have seen it twice. Once only one person got loot, called Sting. It is a +4 SS that has proof against poison and poison on it. The poison does 1d4 points of CON damage on each hit and another 1d4 point s of CON in one minute. The poison has a DC 17 fort save. The second time we found the chest nobody got anything out of it.

Fantastic map! Thanks for continuing to update it. I have a request, though - I believe each chest is associated with a named mob. Could you put the name near the chest on the map?
Thanks!

Two of the chests have named items. The locked chest in the windlasher canyon is always there and the rest are random spawns. I don't feel it's necessary to add the names of the mobs since the chest is either there or not, selectable as interactable. Half the fun is going around the corner to see if it's there or not. :) Adding too much to the map will clutter it up. But I am always open to hearing a valid argument if you want me to add more information. :D
I still need someone to show me the exact location of the Spawn of Vulkoor niche chest. Thanks all!

NE of Maraud the Mines is a random spot (Tourney Armor - drops there). Also the 'sting' chest is in cubby that was mentioned earlier. Also the chest that drops flint is missing from the map (its in the little cubby on the way to the firebrand area from the undead desert.
Lastly, does anyone know where Firestorm Greaves - Fire Resist, Fire Absorption 33% (absorbs 1/3 of all fire damage taken after other protections) (Firebrand area, Lt. Ayurro) are?
Thanks, Thistles (Riedra)

Awesome!
Quintuple THANKS! :)
Not that you haven't already done an awesome job...but, if you wanted to add in the named people or at least what chests drop non-random loot (e.g. Sting, Bow of the Elements, etc...) that would be quite useful......
But, again, thanks so much!

Slightly off-topic, but does anyone know if most of the chests are 'unlocks only when named spawn/entire spawn is killed' vs. 'open to begin with'? Considering trying my luck with some stealth-looting runs.

With the exception of the pickable chest in the Windlasher area, all chests are unlocked by killing the named boss associated with it (In the case of the General, his replacement when he isn't there).

Sorry for the delay in updates. I've been mapping spawn points in the desert recently which is taking some time. I will also be adding the names for the monsters guarding the chests since it seems all the loot tables on the forums reference the name. It's logical.
Thanks to Griffo (from the european servers) I have a nice reference for name locations. Thanks to 'The Cataclysm' and his list of items that drop from the chests.
If anyone has any more suggestions please ask. Thanks.

As promised I have added the labels for the named monsters gaurding the chests. Enjoy and look forward to further updates including spawn points!

One suggestin is to draw the path of least resistence to the various instances/chests.
This would be a huge boon as well. As I'm not running the deseert al lthat often, I sometimes mix up which way to get to each quest entrance.
I can't believe I only just found this now.

If you think this is great visit Dorim's Map Shop :) I'm starting to build more. I'll see if I can find a nice way to depict pathing on my maps. It has been a popular request. I was hoping by adding danger zones that people could find their own way. We'll see. :)
