A what? Do you mean it's more difficult and that's why people don't play it as much? Most people prefer easier classes?
I don't understand what's stopping people. If it's too difficult you can turn the difficulty setting down. If it's fun you should just play it. It's what the game is all about.

I play with one on Cannith who is pretty **** good, r8 seems no problem and r10 he definitely benefits from intimi-heal-tank but still takes all the aggro and crushes.

Melee seems tough unless you're super committed to maxxing it out.

And for the record, not saying melee is in a good place, I think it's in a terrible place. I have a melee alt I can barely bring myself to play, even though it has a good amount of PLs and gear. It's just hard to rely on healing when *many* groups are not great at it.

I LRed mine into a pure fighter a little while ago, not because he was bad but just that I wanted to see how fighter would do since it'd been a while since I played one & it meant I didn't need to look for any new gear or spend time levelling from scratch. Barbs are still plenty of fun & very effective.

On Khyber most of the melee characters are Barbs.

I have 2 Barbarians I play

A traditional half-orc with great axe Barbarian. Does good damage, has lots of hp and can heal himself up to reaper 1.

A Shadar-Kai 18/2 Barbarian / Rogue but I may drop the rogue portion and go straight frenzy. I have enough trapping characters soits probably best to focus on the characters damage potential that I intentionally handicapped by going rogue.


Barbarians are still very necessary because many raids require DPS and your DPS is zero when you are dead because you just got dropped by a 1k damage lightning bolt.

Indeed I kinda thought barb tank (sword and board) Was a new trend since they can reach over 9k hp.

My main is currently a pure barb. He's done all quests at cap at r10, except two that I didn't get around to yet. Do I need a healer at r10? Definitely. Am I useless? Not by a long shot. Sometimes a nasty caster will join who can instakill everything, yes, but otherwise he kills just fine. And the DPS on stuff that can't be instakilled is very good.

I play on Ghallanda so a good bit of players have left for Orien and Sarlona.

But there were a bunch a outstanding Barbs on Ghallanda and there still are.

I have seen one use a Warhammer (I think they were SWF, maybe they had a buckler..but they were not Swashbuckling). They did extremely well.

I have run with a guy who uses 2HF and he clears rooms really quickly (Snowwhisper).

I tend to play support classes like Cleric, Bard, Arty, Favored Soul.

At the higher content, the Barbs I run into are generally excellent. I think a bad Barb would probably be a miserable experience.

Unsure if its what the OP is talking about, I have also seen a good bit of "Bearbarians" too. They are usually a multiclass of barbarian and Druid.

For me, the only reason to play a melee at all is to get the past lives....

I guess if you enjoy trying to outrun laser beams just so you can get in some swings then have at it.


I mean, to be fair, I would enjoy outrunning laser beams, but it's not like the folks shooting the laser beams aren't just as fast as barbarians...


It's problematic. But when we're running 3:30 Blown Deadlines with ranged casters to feed the TR hamster wheel faster - barbs just struggle to compare as they are now.

Heh, barb and rogue are the very best R10 melee DPS or Tank classes. Both are (imho) far FAR stronger and more fun than other melee base classes.
