View Full Version : Core Artificer Elemental Imbues - need help since last update (57)!

Ok, bear with me as I haven't played my artificer in a while, so I'm probably missing something.

I built him as a typical by-the-book arti, who worked amazingly well as a party-imbue specialist with strong tanking and melee ability.

Here's the issue:

Can anyone tell me how to get Elemental Weapons and Greater Elemental Weapons to select the elemental damage type?

Since the last update, they seem to have changed how one of the core arti buff imbues work and I simply cannot figure out how to get the damage going again! I've read up on the new imbue dice changes, which sound fine and all, but I'm obviously missing something - I figure there must be a drag-and-drop dealie to the hotbar trick I'm missing, but when I trigger the spell I get nothing. No element-type selector nor additional damage for my or others' weapons!

For light non-physical damage dealing builds and especially for a hireling army and summons, the extra 3d6 (now 2d8) was better than using Deadly Weapons, especially when fighting certain monster types, and missing this is a real pain!

I know it must be something basic I'm missing, as it's an old-school core ability of the arti to add elemental damage to weapons from way back in pnp and DDO days.

Help!

PS: on a slight tangent, if anyone from SSG reads this, I believe I reported this years ago: PLEASE FIX "Repair Systems" on the Epic Ring of Master Artifice. It still only works when you un-equip and re-equip the item every time you log in!

It now works about in the same way Deadly Weapons does - it increases damage based on who receives the buff. Someone using a piercing weapon gets more piercing damage with Deadly. Someone smacking people with a hammer sees better bludgeoning damage.
You don't get to choose what type of damage Deadly gives the player any more than you now can choose the type of damage Elemental Weapons does; it's all up to the receiver now.

There's a T3 in Battle Engineer that's an Imbue. Elemental Weapons increases the damage of Imbues in general. Whatever the player's imbue might be.
You could also swap to Inquisitive's Law on Your Side, and then Elemental Weapons would instead increase Law's damage, because Law is now also an Imbue.

The benefits are that everyone that already had an imbue probably was geared towards making that imbue better.
The buff is a LOT stronger for people that DO have an imbue though - to the point it's actually be BETTER than Deadly Weapons for many builds, and not just fringe circumstances.

The losses are that for people without an imbue, the spell no longer does anything.

Again, per the reply title, I must have misclicked yesterday. Long (very) time player, forgot Alchemist was added and must've misclicked on the wrong "A" forum! D'oh!

Xgya, thanks for the response, but that's terrible news!

This has to be a bug. Artificers are defined in the Eberron setting as being able to add elemental imbue damage (along with DR bypass material type imbues) to weapons. I'm sure someone at SSG just screwed up big time and didn't add the elemental type toggle when the spell is cast.

This really hurts the class for no reason. I doubt a dev did this out of spite to a class that is a little underperforming as it is!

There's absolutely no way I could tweak my build to get that many points in Battle Engineer to enable that T3 electric imbue, nor would I want to. Limiting myself to electric-only totally defeats the purpose of those imbues ("spells"), and it doesn't help the summons and hires, nor anyone I run with! Wow, this is a crippling change. Yeah, has to be a bug!

I see there are imbue threads ongoing which tie into this, so I'll likely move future comments into one of the more-active threads. Thanks again for the reply, though!

SSG - FIX THIS!
