So I log in after 5 years and I have to deactivate my characters because my account is rolled back to free account, even though I purchased back in a day.
Thanks, uninstall, goodbye

Hi there U,
ViP is a subscription thing. If you stoppped your subscription you lose the ViP perks. However you can reactivate those, if you sub again.
Cheers,
Titus.

No!!!! I'm holding his VIP status hostage. If he wants it back it'll cost him!!! Something like maybe 14.99$ a month. Then it'll be returned on a per month basis!

If you meant "You stole my Premium status", that happens - rarely, but it does.
Simply contact CS, they typically respond quickly on this one (1-3 business* days).
(* Note that today is Friday, and it's already past mid-afternoon at SSG, so realistically this timer won't start until Monday at the earliest.)

The most common cause of this is having a card that gets updated, like its expiration date, and that change not being updated in our system. You can reach Account Support here for assistance: https://help.standingstonegames.com/hc/en-us/requests/new

Yeah, I've had this happen. Once I get the card fixed everything comes back. No damage to any of my characters, etc.

I don't know if this is true or not, but I heard at some point that people who bought the original game when it was still something you had to buy and not a free to play subscription model, got permanent ViP as a sort of "Sorry you spent money on a thing that now no longer costs money".
I'm not sure if this is true, but if it is, and he was one of the people who got this deal, which since he specifically mentions "buying it back in the day" I'm assuming he is, this could be what his post claiming stolen ViP is about.
Edit: Searching around with Google-Fu got me the information that permanent ViP status has also been given away at certain events such as PAX. So as rare as it is, it does at least seem to be a thing that someone could have.

Original purchasers/players do *not* get free VIP. Or if they do and I missed it, please someone tell me how to jump on that!
It is also my understanding that some perm VIP has been given out as parts of events. But very few to my understanding.

I, too, logged in after ~5+ years and everything so far has seemed normal however I did get a piece of mail saying I had earned veteran status on the server so I think a few things had reset because I definitely already had veteran status before my hiatus. Since vet status is a result of favor I assumed there may be some "favor reset" that "has to be done" on old accounts so I'd recommend at least checking your highest favor character to see if that changes any of the problems you were experiencing.
However, VIP is paid for monthly which you wouldn't have without resubscribing as the other posters noted.
