There is no sense in people being able to put up hardened caramel, and Rotten Almonds etc.. or anything that has no use for anything in the game. Sure a person should know what they are buying, but the fact that the icon of a useless material is the same as one that is useful. It is unbecoming of supposedly a more mature crowd of MMO players to have people stoop so low to sell something they know is worthless. So please make expired event stuff No Auction please.

yup happened to me. Im sleepy and tired.. opened the shard AH, looked at the caramels and almonds.. they all look identical.. 100 for 20 shards.. bought each.. so im out 40 shards with something that has no value. Thing is they look identical. And people put this stuff up knowing people will buy by accident, or in my case, sleepy and not being able to discern between the two.. they are off by just one word.. so easy to miss it. Its really sad that people would take advantage of other people like this.. but I also have to point a finger at SSG for even allowing the stuff to be able to be put on the AH to begin with.

When the event comes around don't change the items to rotted/corrputed/putrid/whatever item, delete them just like you do spectral dragon scales.

Is there any compelling reason these NEED to expire nowadays? Why this specific event but not others?

make them all BTA and let them not expire.

Why BTA? Just unbound, no expiration.

Yeah so many ways this could've been implemented better than just adding a word...
- Delete them outright....they're items that serve no purpose other than to be manually deleted anyway, so just make it automatic, if that's not technically problematic
- Make them unauctionable, since they're a separate item from the fresh candy
- Give them a different graphic than the fresh candy to more obviously distinguish them in the AH interface

Yeah why do keys and ingredients from Night Revels even expire? That's not the case for the other events.

And the last new event they made, unbound ingredients, no expiration. (snowpeaks)

I don't see any reason why they need to expire in there.
So again, the reason they need to expire is.........?
You said "there is a reason why they expire".
WHAT IS THAT REASON in your opinion?
Because I can't think of a single solid reason why they NEED to expire.

Expired ingredients should never have been auctionable.
They should have been invalidated for auction when they were tagged for expiry.
and fix/delete old expired ingredients that don't even have descriptions or short text anymore.
These of Vampire fangs I cant even drag from my bag deposit box to inventory to delete, they are stuck in my crafting storage box without short text.
Just in there as a stack of undeletable blank.
They were an unknown item for a while, I accidently found out what they were while filter text searching for old Mabar ingredients to delete.

Vampire fangs/Lich Dust/Spectral Dragon Scales were supposed to be tradable to motes.. but at some point that crafting conversion option expired too...

If there is a reason in that thread, please be so kind to repost it here, maybe I'm just not good at reading english.
Because I sure don't see one. What is it? r is there maybe just not one?
Or maybe you also are not great at english and don't understand what I'm asking?

And that reason is........ ?
The devs stated their rationale for this as follows:
The reason the ings expire is so they can offer rewards at a much lower price point than they otherwise would, because vet players wont simply be sitting on years' worth of saved up ings they can use to immediately buy any new shinies that are offered, thus basically skipping the actual event. They want people to actually participate.
Comparing NR to Anniversary and Cove, there is definitely a difference in terms of how many times you need to repeat a quest in order to get enough ings for a given reward, so I think the rationale is justified

While I do agree with the topic, that the Devs should make expired stuff un-AHable - I have to ask, how easy/hard is it to spot that they are in fact expired? I honestly don't know, and am asking earnestly. I haven't shopped for any event ingredients in literal years and haven't run into this issue.
Part of me thinks that if it's an easy thing to spot - these folks who are profiting off of it should be allowed to do so until they can't (ie, the devs step up to the plate and flag them as unsellable) - IMHO it's a matter of buyer beware and I would say a fix is low priority. If it's difficult/impossible to spot, then very much shame on the Devs for allowing the profiteering to continue and a fix is critical. I can't really blame people for exploiting the system because people suck. I just expect the worst elements to make the worst choices when presented with them. However, if the Devs are tacitly allowing it to continue and have the ability to put an end to it, but just haven't bothered to, then that's a different kettle of fish.

It's clearly false reason because here absolutely no difference between events meaning grind amounts. Veterans already have tons doubloons or thingies from Anniversary and can easy buy all new to year shinies from 1-2 day running.
And it's meaning also if it's really reason - any event not have enough stimulus to old players participate it actually, and it's problem per se. ;)

It's probably also so duping can't create those large stockpiles that will last for years.

Whatever the reason the way it works is better than other events with bound ingredients and large amounts
The only problem is the expired ingredients should not be auction

I agree with you them not needing to expire.. My strongest point to that is.. if you spent your hard earned time , EARNING an item.. you should to get to keep it. Especially if every year, the vendor has the same exact thing on it.

I can agree to a point about buyer beware.. this is very practical in real life scenarios.. but normally if a person is trying to scam other people, normally come kind of authority steps in. This game should be no different. A person should not be able to profit from anothers mistake. If anything it should violate some terms of service because a person is trying to sell something under the illusion of it being something else to make a profit. It is scamming plain and simple and it needs to stop.

Why do materials go bad at all? Players earned them.
Platinum doesnt go bad. Astral shards don't decay.
To me, an earned material should be just that: an earned material.
The argument to make them degrade, they say, is to keep vet
players sitting on mountains of materials and
dominating the event selling mats and making it so no one needs to play,
but that assumes people only do the event for the cosmetics and
materials - ?
Well, this may be a fringe view, I am weird, but
I would do this event even if there were no mats or cosmetic gear,
Why?
I like actually like it, and I love playing DDO.
