View Full Version : Grim Barricade broken?

Was shifting things around the other day and decided to put more points in GB when I noticed, that if you chose Fort Save in first row, you can only chose the same for everything about it?
Just to clarify;
I open first row Fort/Will/Reflex and can chose any of the 3. Once that choice is made, you now fill that 3 times and can move to the next tier where you Should be able to chose any of those 3 again, but instead can only chose whatever is in the first tier.
I've never seen any tree work like this, so is this a bug, broken or what?

Idk if wai, but I guess so since it's been as you describe since it's first released.
Now that you mention, it'd be good to allow an independent choice on every tier.

I always choose reflex for my character(s) since the magic Mantle spell and Energy Immunity spells are not available in DDO.
Deathward already protects fort save spells anyways. Monsters in DDO will always cast evocation damage spells since these are the only spells working on players; unless they see some buffs missing on players.

Interesting that it's been this way all along. I to just switched from Fort saves to Reflex when I realized this.
Still, obviously broken as no other tiered system works like this and would be nice to be able to mix Fort and Reflex on some characters......

DW does nothing for Stuns (eg. shouts) or Disintegration or Wilting. 'Course, fort save doesn't help much either. Disintegration will one-shot a tank; eg. 5k disintegrate from an R1 Suulomades after a SUCCESSFUL save.
There's really nothing you can do about those but die. Wearing spell-absorb works, but there aren't any in game with enough charges to last throughout a raid. Wilting is more of a Vengeance issue. If you can remember to swap one in (and then remember to swap it back out), spell-abs works for questing.
For OP, yeah, Grim Barricade has always worked that way. It seems to be a UI bug. Either it should not be offering things you can't choose (ie. no sub-menu on T2+) or you should be able to choose freely. My builds tend to only have one "weaker" save, which I shore up in Grim. So, it's only been a minor irk to me .. like poor grammar or using "ur" for "your".

All of the reaper trees work the same way.
If you actually look at the graphics on the screen, you can see that the abilities are "linked" with an arrow pointing up. That means your choice on the base selection influences what you can choose in the next stage.
Go ahead and play with the other trees, for example Strength vs. Dexterity, INT vs. CHA vs. WIS, PRR vs. MRR.

I appreciate the response, but as I mentioned in OP, Enhancement trees are linked Exactly the same way and do Not behave this way. The linked arrows just represent the same choices, whether 2 or 3 etc, but after completing that tier, you are free to select a different choice.
This is obviously broken and I can only imagine. because no one has bothered to say anything, has remained that way from conception.
Having said that, there are a lot of inconsistencies in the game like this, that do not follow the previous pattern set out by the Devs, which just makes things more confusing for newbie players........

Just some notes,
Strength Domain does say it will ensure you will always make your saving throws against stun effects, though I haven't tested it to see what all it actually works against.
I've read that Undead shroud grants immunity to horrid wilting.
Expanded incapacitated range from Dark Apostate and From Fury of the wild ( +400 hit points ) and the auto healing 5 seconds after incap from DA help some with Disintegrate.

Yeah, undead shroud from the pm tree protects you from horrid wilting, poison damage and most death effects. You should still slot a deathblock augment (you're immune to the deathward spell in undead form) else you can be instakilled with prismatic ray/spray. It's happened quite a few times to me in epics, various mage or lich mobs banishing me to another plane of existence.
