Hello,
I know this isn't the biggest deal considering all that's going on right now, but it would be great if something could be done about this.
Many quest and raid pugs frown upon SS usage because of how it impairs players vision, even more so when multiple of them overlap. Playing a Stormsinger, I feel the need to ask every group I join if I can cast it or just never bother.
This was not an issue when Sleet Storm was a mostly overlooked spell, but now that's a key feature of the new shiny archetype it would be great if something could be done to make it less obnoxious to players so Stormsingers won't feel constranged to not cast it. It seems turning it off completely is not a great option as it would be good to have an indication we're inside its AoE, but maybe the opacity could be turned down, and the addictive visual fxs in the overlapping areas as well.
Thanks,
NH

While I support your cause and believe asking in chat is awefully nice of you, I also believe that anyone who chastises you for using Sleet Storm is not a very nice person and as such you shouldn't really care about what they think.

I've not seen anyone ask for no sleetstorm
I have seen players ask for no dancing balls causing dizziness
For me personally I wish players could tone down a ton of vision imparing effects one day I will compile a list
I just can't stand things that block the vision in the game be it friendly spells or when your back is too close to the edge of the map so some bit of the environment blocks everything or how dull things get visually in certain areas I understand there is an imersion factor there but to me nothing kills immersion to the game more then not seeing (blindness is ok) but being blinded by spells visuals is gross

DDO should invest into an option to disable distracting visual effects that impact people like those with triggers for photosensitive epileptic episodes.
This same switch could also disable visuals for all those annoying visual effects that trigger players in general.
While you are at it.. an option to remove me see other players pets.. especially those intentionally angled by players by public area vendors to cause them to go into hyper wall bouncing mode.

I wish all the spells with any visual controversy would just be made much more translucent.
For example, Hypnotic Pattern is just too much, dizzying for some and frowned upon in my experience. If the opacity was only 10% of what it is now it would be fine.
I'm self conscious about using Ice Storm, never know when someone will be annoyed but it sure helps with Salt going to keep things in check on R10s when everything is else is not working. Maybe 50% less opacity would fix Ice Storm imo.

We have had many a tank get messed up by damage circles (or rectangles ... looking at you feywild raid #2) because they could not see the effect pop up while tanking. That is a Tier 5 ability which is pretty affective, to have it actually hurt the team.

I detest this spell

Hey, folks!
Thanks for the replies. I have not actually been hostilized for using Sleet Storm, though I do see comments about how it makes people not being able to see. As a person mindful of others, however, I do feel the need to ask to be sure there's no issue.
It's not just a matter of the spell blocking the vision, though - something else I forgot to mention is that the visual fxs bring performance issues for people using lower end computers including some severe drops in frame rate - I know because I had this happen to me a lot until I finally was able to get a new machine a few months ago.
So the dev team toning the effects down or finding a way for them to be less resource intensive while not blocking vision as much would be great, resources allowing.
Cheers!
