Considering I'm one of the first to say bad things about your decisions.
I like to say good things when you do it right.
Changing time for the Mateinance, and instead of pushing the timer onward, you started sooner, well, that's a really good and appreciated move.
So thank you very much for the choice in timing.
I hope this could be a trend when there is a (planned) extended manteinance.
Grats.
(still suffering from the missed compensation for the revert, but this timing choice is a good one)

Maybe next year they can remember to give players more than 30 seconds notice in game.

I realize that different people are on different schedules and live in different time zones, but I dont like the devs changing the downtime hours constantly. Plus, 5 hours for a small game update and to turn on Marbar?? It seems like the downtime is getting longer and longer.

Small game update? Rewriting the entire player banked items databases doesn't seem small to me :)
Given all the banking upheaval of late I'm more then happy for a longer then usual downtime to get it onto a :fingers crossed: stable basis again.

And I would appreciate that instead of one timezone always getting screwed, it's somewhat distributed, if circumstances allow it.

The recent change is a step in the right direction but doesn't close the gap.
This is low hanging fruit, or an easy fix to permanently remove from the weekly radar/complaint thread,
Add more techs for speed and efficiency,
Stagger, Alternate as each server has it's own sweet spot. A stagger approach may reduce the duration as well.
Offer incentives (bonus and/or dinner, beer or beers) for quality and timeliness... piecemeal not punching a clock.
2a, 3a, 4a, whatever is best majority wise. (player survey so they feel involved) EST
Impact a couple/few (however many techs it take) instead of impacting your player-base, 2/3 vs 1000s.
Props to making the current change and agree... needs to be tightened up but right rather than rushed.

The problem is that you will never know what time the update/downtime is going to be. They usually dont put the info in the game launcher until late afternoon/early evening est. If you play earlier in the day like me and dont log in later, you cant plan your playing time.

I was in game when the world announcement came across at the 2-hour mark.

What I personally don't like is that when:
DDO is down for a patch of some sort and LOTRO is down for a weekly restart, then both games have the same down time.
If LOTRO has a patch of some sort and DDO is to have a weekly restart then both games once again are down for the same amount of time..
a Restart for either game should be less than 1 hour.
What I would prefer is that they do restarts/patches for each game on different days, this would allow those the option of playing the other game when either is having a restart/patch.

Well that's something I suppose. I was playing in the about 2 hours leading up to the servers going down, and only saw a 30 second notice. Did you see incremental announcements or just the 2 our warning?
