"An invalid item was removed from my inventory"

I have a black bag symbol next to the "Ready to Level" symbol. ANyone know what this could be or what it relates to?

EDIT: Seems this is Astral Shards. So if you get some shards as a reward/otto box etc, it puts it in your inventory, flags it as invalid and then puts it into your astral shard bank.... Not the cleanest way of doing it, and given this should be transparent, it hardly needs a warning which persists until you logout and back in again.

There were some cryptic references in the release notes for recent patches referring to "erroneous items" in inventory. Maybe some of these got corrected out? :confused:

Maybe, but if so I would have expected it to have happened after the update. This was sort of randomly while on my ship sorting my inventory. Although nothing I transferred from the bank seems relevant.

Same here, I get this message a few days in a row now and have no idea which item in my inventory is invalid.
I'm guessing it's guild renown with a full inventory that causes the message to appear.
Or perhaps remnants?

Tricky thing is, no message anywhere what it is that the game finds to be an invalid item.

i got this on a mule so no guild renown. I saw it when i logged in looking for something. So i had not 'played' the character EVER. Inventory is filled with only blue items i pulled from bank for storage.

So, the trigger has a wider range than I expected that can initiate it.

I picked this up at least twice while running Reclaiming Memories during combat with the Usurper of Dreams. Both times that I saw the message were right after the Usurper hit me with a level drain attack. Didn't have time to check the combat log to confirm/correlate, but the timing of the message was consistent with the attacks.

I got it today on argo. It has the image for burdened with the message "An invalid item was removed from my inventory". I don't even know what I lost.

seems to be a permanent "feature" now ... slightly worrying message since it doesn't actually seem to remove anything.

Even stranger, the same message pops up every time I hit the airship buffs ... specifically it seems to be the Floating Rock Garden which is triggering the message?

Over the weekend, another member of my guild received the message upon logging in after the roll back. She could not determine what was removed, leading to about an hour of fruitless checking of characters and inventories.

It seems likely a number of different items can cause the same message. It seem likely the items are irrelevant. It seems likely players will fret over this for years to come.

I've seen it pop up mid quest on occasion, possibly related to guild renown drops from monster deaths? I know for a fact that I've gotten them on occasions other than AS drops from the MM/Silver & Gold rolls.

Hmm. If it were guild renown from monster deaths it would happen a _lot_ to all of us. Maybe if a guild reaches level 200 the monster renown drops are no longer valid?

Could it be related to Trap the Soul? The ingredient requirements for that spell changed and it now appears on a lot of equipment.

I was claiming some rewards from the monster manual today and got this error every time I claimed astral shards.

I also keep getting "an item was removed from your inventory" when I get overloaded due to ray of fatigue lately.

Probably something to do with how the game handles certain objects/assignment of items.

Had the message pop up the other day without being encumbered and it remained active until I went and sold all the stuff I looted to an NPC. I suspect that one of the items I looted was either erroneously tagged as broken, or was actually broken, hence why the messaged stopped once it wasn't in my inventory anymore.

Definitely wasn't astral shards, though, still got the same amount I had before the bug.

Perhaps arrows and other consumables that are being broken during a fight trigger it as well?
As those get removed from inventory emidiatly as they can't be repaired.

The forum is filled with customer service and bug posts. The enormity of them suggests that the actual issues are in the thousands based upon the volume of posts and how often they are read.
Extrapolation is not difficult. The diversity of problems and lack of any response shows how understaffed and unqualified the people are that are presently running the QA and customer service part of this game.

The silence is deafening and for those that TR often or do hardcore, I have no idea how you'd continue to trust there won't be more rollbacks to come.

It is clear that there is NO sandbox testing of what SSG generates and that we are all their bug testers.

I got this on HC when clicking to receive an Astral Shard reward from the Monster Manual. At the time I thought perhaps it was trying to erroneously put the Astral Shard in my inventory however briefly before adding it directly to my Astral Shard currency counter. I did receive my Astral Shard, I just received the error message as well.

I don't think it has anything specific to do with encumbrance. I am at 175/2595 Light right now, and I still have the error bag symbol. Didn't ever have it before today. All I did was log on, roll daily dice, and open a traveller's trunk before I noticed the new error symbol. So one of those things caused it somehow.

I have had this error when purchasing AS as well.
Yesterday it happened when I received 15guild renown while sacking the desert.
The alert often persists (the bag icon, upper left) for hours or until i logout.

The error message is easily reproducible when obtaining 1 AS rewards from the monster manual.

Ah, it must be the AS. I opened a traveler's trunk, which gives you some AS. Is it trying to put AS into your inventory instead of just adding it to your AS total?

Thank you for the explanation but it is still occurring. Can we at least get more info in that message as to what, specifically, is invalid? I'm tired of finding "Boots," etc, no level, no enhancements at all, just boots in my inventory(ies) for several years now. Found 3 more (boots, necklace and helm) 5 days ago...
VERY tired of items I saved for a reason reverting to their base. >:<

On several servers. This is their way of culling things they don't want in the game anymore IMO (no, not humble, it's happened too much for too long.)

But they won't take the supposedly defunct d12 die someone might have removed from their bag by mistake, no! That just adds to the clutter we then buy inventory space for.

Having too much weight is one of two ways I can generate this error at will. I encountered this error frequently on hardcore where I had no tomes/pastlifes buffing my strength and had no astral shards at all on those accounts.

I have also received the error taking astral shards out of the monster manual.

Those are the only two ways I get this error.

Yeah I'm seeing "invalid item" whenever I swap off my Stone Shoes and that 1000 lbs goes back to my inventory
