View Full Version : Oriental Adventures would be a cool addition for a future release

I don't know if this was ever suggested before, but content inspired by the D&D book Oriental Adventures would be awesome for a future release.

Could pave the way for a new race, a new class, a new iconic, new monsters and/or new weapons.

Maybe even a new universal tree, or a possible rework of existing ones.

The lore is rich, the possibilities are almost endless.

With how good Isle of Dread feels and looks, I am sure SSG could pull this off.

Cheers!

Don't need OA to be inspired by it.

Looks great.

But don't you want to fight a purple named Oni with a look like that?!

I bet you do!

Oni are essentially Ogre-Magi, yes?

We already have a bunch of them in DDO. Granted, none are purple-named, but they don't inspire me, really. The red-named one in White Plume Mountain is fine.

What I'd REALLY like to see is a VERY nasty purple-named Balor raid boss fight. There are too many Pit Fiend fights. A Balor fight could be so much better.

There are a host of reasons not to base anything on the old "Oriental Adventures" book, starting with the name, and proceeding directly to Eberron.

My pitch would be:
34-36 Talenta Plains (we now have all the Dino models we need) intro quest could be an expedition from Sharn, or a search for more information on the Dino from IoD (and potentially for refined Dino bone crafting from the one place on Eberron it may already be practiced)

36-38 Probably some non-Eberron supplement. Whatever WotC is publishing that year (everyone must have noticed that Curse of Strahd and Saltmarsh got hardcover releases around or before their inclusion in DDO)

38-40 Sarlona (preceded by Legendary IQ and Dreaming Dark) intro adventure following from the end of Legendary Dreaming Dark

40-42 (end game) Argonessen and the culmination of the Draconic Prophesy. Planar Travel, facing off against Dal Quor, Xoriat, and opposing the Daelkyr directly. Eventually (possibly) travel to Sigil.

This ranks, like, number 5,186,327 on my personal preference list but if the art department wants to let me commit mass murder while wearing a pretty silk Kimono with my hair done up in side buns, well, sure.

Expedition to the Barrier Peaks (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Expedition_to_the_Barrier_Peaks). It's really the only bucket-list thing I have for DDO. Oh, don't get me wrong - it'll never happen and I know that. But, it's the only thing I would list as a Must Have going forward. Well... Planescape. But, that's the only compromise I'm willing to make.

SSG - either make EttBP or Planescape happen, your choice.

I'm waiting. :D

Maybe...the Barrier Peaks are located on the back of a giant Oriental sea turtle swimming through the Planescape and the women there all wear pretty silk Kimonos and put their hair up in side buns while riding celestial dragon and whale mounts. Yeah.

Isn't there a continent in Eberron that's basically pseudo Asia? Or maybe it was in FR, I forget

I'd rather have spell jammer and barrier peaks in that order, but OA would be cool too and probably bring a useful universal tree for fighters :)

Also, there's nothing wrong with the word oriental - it's literally just Latin for "eastern".

You're thinking of Kara-Tur (https://forgottenrealms.fandom.com/wiki/Kara-Tur). It's in the Forgotten Realms.

How about just "Orien Adventures"? Could have a heist (or counter heist) Train Job, Murder on the Orien Express, etc. Really play on that Noir/Magipunk vibe from Sharn and flesh out Korvaire a bit at the same time.

A guy ran an adventure like that at origins con not long after Eberron came out was a blast
